  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 01:06 PM) I like the idea of picking up Jesus Montero, but I don't believe he is good enough to stick at catcher, and the Sox have enough of a logjam at 1B already. From the Mariners, Triunfel is a guy I like too, even if he's a similar player to Leury. Yeah I was thinking about him too. I'm just thinking out loud here guys. To me Mariners make sense only if they miss out on Cruz. Would Franklin be available too or would he be worth more than De Aza?
  2. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 13, 2014 -> 01:00 PM) Is Jesus Montero even serviceable anymore? If so, is he any better than Phegley or Flowers? I mean he only had 1 bad year, and that was last year in which he only got 101 at bats. He hit 208 with 3 HRs and 9 RBIs. But the year before, he put up a 260 batting average with 15 HRs and 62 RBIs in 515 at bats, and only struck out 99 times. Doesn't walk much though.
  3. Seattle Mariners come to mind. Just read on mlbtraderumors that Franklin Gutierrez will not play for them in the 2014 season because of a relapse of his gastrointestinal injury. All they have in the outfield now is Michael Saunders and Dustin Ackley. If they miss out on Cruz, I could see them definitely be interested in De Aza. Montero comes to my mind that can possibly help immediately from the Mariners. What are your guys thoughts about this and where else you see De Aza is a good fit?
  4. Dayan Viciedo for me. The kid is only going to be 25 and still has tons of potential. This year he breaks out. My breakout minor league player this year is going to be Trayce Thompson.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 10, 2014 -> 03:16 PM) Leyson Septimo has signed with an Atlantic League (Ind) team, so he's gone. Only remaining MiLB FA's who were with Sox org that remain unsigned with any team: RHP Simon Castro (my guess is the Sox re-sign him) RHP Johansel Delgado (23 yo in Rk lg last year, hard to say what happens with him) 1B/OF Jimmy Gallagher (he's 28 now, and I don't see the Sox needing his services, he's a MiLB bench guy) RHP Ramon Troncoso (I don't see him back either) I'm glad I don't have to hear about Septimo anymore. I do hope Sox do resign Castro.
  6. Had a conference call with him and here is what Eaton had to say. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/call-r...lder-adam-eaton Pretty cool to see that Hahn was firing him up and cussing at him. For me as a fan, that's pretty cool to see a GM do that.
  7. When are teams eligible to sign these international players? Around draft time?
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 6, 2014 -> 03:43 PM) He's the only guy I wrote about based mostly on numbers/age, so it was a bit of a shot in the dark. As for why he isn't in the states yet, there could be a number of reasons. One, he may have started his development later, maybe even signed at 18 instead of 16 or 17. Alternately, it could be his stuff just isn't that good but plays well against DSL competition. Hard to say for sure. But if he's not in the US in 2014 at all, it is likely the latter. Ok thank you.
  9. I could honestly say that I just started playing attention to the minors a couple seasons ago so I really don't know who really any of these international signings are but from your write up, I was definitely impressed with Carlos Diaz's pitching numbers. Since he is turning 20, why hasn't he made his way to the states yet?
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Feb 5, 2014 -> 12:45 PM) Conor Gillaspie would be at the upper range of prices I'm willing to pay No way. Highest I would go is Snodgrass or Nester Molina.
  11. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 03:33 PM) The guys I liked were: Yirver Gilbert Lara Brandon Benavente Miguel Flames Alexander Paredes I am hoping that the Sox go all out on two guys this signing period, which will be a huge boost to the system. I'd be ecstatic with Paredes and Benavente.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 02:27 PM) Wendelken was one I almost put on there, though I was running out of room. I could have written up another 10 guys easily. The system is just a lot deeper this year. I think Lowry will need another year in rookie ball, probably at Great Falls if I had to guess. Yeah I think Wendelken can be at AA by the end of this next season with a good year. With Lowry, with a good couple of months, you see him at Kannapolis?
  13. I'd be happy with that because it would show improvement and still a top 10 pick most likely.
  14. The guys I liked in order OF Alexander Paredes C Brandon Benavente P Huascar Ynoa SS/3B Yirver Gilbert Lara P Tomas Alastre 1B/OF Bryan Pena If we can get those top 2 for me, that would be ideal.
  15. My favorites: Braulio Ortiz - Really had a strong last couple months last year. Brandon Brennan - Comming back from TJ. Thaddius Lowry - Young LHP who has some good potential. Will he start in Kannapolis? Brad Goldberg - We'll probably see him in AAA by the end of the season if he does well like last year. Kevin Vance - I'll be interested if he can manage his control better. One name that I'm interested in that you didn't name is JB Wendelken (we acquired in Peavy trade). He had a pretty good year with Winston Salem last year, still young, and I think he can be a good bullpen option too.
  16. Santana would cost the Sox a 2nd round draft pick, so I don't think Hahn will be interested in that.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 4, 2014 -> 07:05 AM) Did he consider Abreu? He did not consider Abreu. This is a conversation with Parks and I about the Sox system yesterday. Jason Parks ‏@ProfessorParks 42m I don't want to start a panic, but the #WhiteSox are #19 on my preliminary sketch of all farm systems. I'm sober. I promise. Hawkins will get better in 2014. Barnum might not. Bad profile. Power or bust. Garrett Gajewski ‏@3G_Gajewski18 2m @ProfessorParks Yeah, I still have some hope for Barnum because injuries has plagued him. And what you think of Rule 5 pick Adrian Nieto? Jason Parks ‏@ProfessorParks 1m @3G_Gajewski18 I'm not as high on Davidson, but power bats at 3B are valuable commodities.
  18. Rumor out there that Rays are discussing a trade with the Nationals about Jose Lobaton. Sox were rumored to go and get him. Just figured I'd bump this and see what you guys think what will be the next move for Hahn.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 3, 2014 -> 04:44 PM) Jason Parks just said he's got the Sox as the #19 system in baseball. I put my conversation on him about the Sox farm system in the Anderson thread if you want to take a look at that.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 3, 2014 -> 04:51 PM) If/when he does respond, it will likely be loving Davidson, liking Abreu but not sure overall just due the size of the contract and the profile of Abreu as a 1B, non-athletic player, and a large amount of indifference on Nieto because it's a Rule 5 pick and Rule 5 picks are always so meh. Not as high on Davidson but said power bats at 3B are valuable commodity. Didn't say anything about Abreu or Nieto but he likes our system and says improving as you can see about the tweets we had back and forth. I'm very excited for this upcoming season, both in the majors and minors.
  21. QUOTE (TomPickle @ Feb 3, 2014 -> 04:33 PM) This isn't entirely relevant to this thread, but probably not deserving of its own thread either, so I'll just drop it in here. Jason Parks ‏@ProfessorParks I don't want to start a panic, but the #WhiteSox are #19 on my preliminary sketch of all farm systems. I'm sober. I promise. I was just about to post this. I had a conversation with Parks and this is what he has said so far. 22. Jason Parks ‏@ProfessorParks 21h Yes. Very high ceiling. Raw at present but loud tools. RT @SpaldingBalls @ProfessorParks could Tim Anderson be an All-Star? That's what Jason Parks said about Tim Anderson. Love hearing this about our prospects.
  23. I know the Sox probably won't be too good this year with all the young talent. But, I am so excited to see all these young guys go through their ups and downs. Like we've said, Hahn has had a great off season so far and I can't wait to watch some new blood at the ball park this year.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 31, 2014 -> 01:23 PM) #1) If this team is going to compete or resemble something close to competitiveness, Dunn will be needed. He shouldn't play much versus lefties this year with Konerko on the roster, but they have absolutely no chance without him. #2) There is a chance that, with a good first half, some of Dunn's contract can be saved in a trade. #3) Who are you reasonably going to replace him with that is going to do or be anything of significance? I think they are probably trying to work out trades to get him off the team, but they don't want to eat $15 million just to get rid of him. He's still a useful player. I completely agree with everything you have stated. Makes no sense right now, unless a team is willing to eat the whole 15 million.
  25. Cubs sign SP Jason Hammel to a 1 year deal worth a reported 6 million. Per Rosenthal
