Can we expect anything from this kid in the long run? What was his scouting report?

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 09:54 AM) The thing to look at with Holmberg is that over 200 innings into AA, he has seen his K/9 rates drop precipitously from at or above 9 at most levels to 6.3 or so in AA. 6.3 K/9 isn't horrible in MLB, but it certainly puts a ceiling on him and if he loses even more strikeouts on his way to the show, he'll have a hard time succeeding. I'm not sure how great of a get he is, especially when we already have lefties with high 80s-low 90s fastballs and modest K rates in our rotation. That's why I would still go after their position players in their system like Davidson, Eaton, Owings, Lamb. -
Well I think with the information we get from bucket, Alexei is not going to get traded.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 17, 2013 -> 10:52 AM) This information about Rios was in Jim Bowden's article today.... The Chicago White Sox have been shopping almost all of their players, but so far they have been extremely disappointed in the offers they've fielded for right fielder Alex Rios. However, with very few bats available they should still do fine, as teams always get a bit more desperate right before the deadline. That is a little disappointing. Did he mention anything about Peavy or the.bullpen guys?

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 09:29 PM) Davidson would be my dream return. Owings is legit. Trahan is interesting too. Lots of good stuff in that system. Bucket, can a package of Peavy and Crain net Davidson, Owings and a 2 others? What you think? -

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 09:05 PM) Jon Heyman of CBS Sports echoes Sullivan's earlier report that the Rangers aren't willing to include Martin Perez in a trade for Garza. The Red Sox are said to be "thinking about" Garza and would be a major threat if they entered the fray, according to Heyman. Boston has many pitching prospects acquired by Theo Epstein during his time as the team's GM. The Diamondbacks are in the mix as well, though they may prefer Jake Peavy. The Cubs are likely to place more emphasis on ceiling than proximity to the Major Leagues, according to Heyman, with a slight preference for pitching as opposed to position players. I love hearing that because the DBacks have the position player prospects that the Sox are looking for. And I've said that is the most logical place for Peavy to land. -
QUOTE (Paulstar @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 07:33 PM) I agree, a Crain for Parker trade would be awesome. Parker can be a young guy to build the team around and play RF next year if Rios is traded. I don't think he is a stud prospect, but a guy who can possibly put up a .250 BA and .350 OBP, knock out 20-25 homers, and drive in 75 plus every year while playing above average D (although he might wind up in LF if he gets any slower). Worst case scenario, we would at least have a QB to throw the rock around to Mitchell, Hawkins, and Jacobs. I really think with the right QB (I'm not sure Dunn can cut it as a QB anymore), the White Sox would run away with the championship in a MLB 7 on 7 league. Yeah I agree. These next couple of weeks are going to be.very interesting now that everyone is getting healthy and hopefully (knock on wood) stays healthy.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 04:00 PM) Wow. That is just crazy. The price of relief help must be insane if they are that far down their list of relievers. Doesn't help that he just threw a no hitter too. His price is just as high I bet.
-
Rockies system isn't that good. So even if Dickerson was there and not having the type of season he is right now, Crain is much more valuable than that
-
Is there really any timetable of a possible trade for Rios and Lindstrom? I.understand that Crain and Peavy need to be healthy but I'm getting impatient and want this minor rebuild to happen already.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 03:06 PM) If I'm buying, I'd much rather have Peavy than Garza. Both for this season and when you factor in the contracts. Two different tiers of pitcher IMO. I agree with you. Peavy is a more reliable pitcher who is cost friendly and controlled through next year. And are the Cubs really asking for Feliz? That's crazy.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 02:36 PM) I like Trevor Story an awful lot. Don't think he can be had for Crain though. He's hitting 217 and strikes out around 40% of the time. I would go after Kyle Parker.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 01:50 PM) Rockies are said to be interested in Jesse Crain. http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_23666...white-sox-could Hitting wise, none of their prospects interest me except Dahl. And I doubt they trade him.for Crain
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 16, 2013 -> 01:31 PM) I think Olt ends up going to the Cubs as part of the package for Garza. I agree. But then I think if Peavy could get 2 good starts in. Raises his price for the DBacks as he's the best pitcher available after Garza

Read from another poster on a Sox board that he listened to Buster Olney's podcast today talking about the White Sox. Olney had Gonzalez, the Sox beat writer and both said there is hardly any interest in Alexei. However, major interest in Rios from Texas and Pittsburg. Lots of interest in Crain from Texas and the Red Sox. And lots of interest in Peavy from the DBacks and the Giants. What you guys think? Personally, I would package Rios and Crain to Texas for Sardinas, Williams, Jackson, and Payano. Then package Peavy and Lindstrom for Davidon, Owings, Lamb, and Anderson

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 09:31 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,2724414.story Tentatively, the rotation is Danks, Peavy, Quintana, Sale, Santiago Peavy will start July 20, 25, and 30 before the trade deadline. Looking at that rotation, whether we trade Peavy or not, that looks like a fantastic pitching staff
-
Well if Boston wants Alexei, I would be willing to make a deal with them. Could get 2 or 3 solid prospects for him
-
I was watching Sports Talk Live and they were saying of a possibility of Rios going to the Yankees. I find this hard to be true, given the source.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) And if he did like the players people would say it was proof he didn't know what he was doing because they can't play. RV cannot win on this board. It's funny, posters say the Sox talent level is weak but they don't win because the manager is bad. Personally, I would like the White Sox to put a little more weight on baseball acumen, and a little less on being "toolsy" when evaluating players. Something of a mix. Obviously they need to have talent, but not always more is better. The Sox need some baseball players, not just athletes disguised as them. I agree that the Sox just need baseball players. They might not be the most athletic person in the world, but knows how to play the game and is smart about it. That's the problem though, we know that Hahn and Kenny aren't looking at guys that are that, but very toolsy and raw.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 15, 2013 -> 02:57 PM) He's also the kind of guy that can get a GM and a manager an extension. Your glass isn't even half-empty, it's always empty. You talk about Jesse Crain like he's a year away from a senior discount when he's been one of the best relievers in the league. Alex Rios is a good player who, like everyone, wants this situation resolved, but Hahn has to get scouting reports and offers and evaluate and posture, and other teams have to do the same thing, and all the while Rios is twisting in the wind never knowing where he's going to be employed the following day. It's not easy for him right now, but he's handling it like a champ. Maybe relax and let it all play out. I agree. People always say on here that this player has little value and then when we do make a trade, that they expected more for that one player. Rios, Alexei, Peavy, Lindstrom and Crain all have value to teams. I expect Hahn to make the right moves. Hopefully.
-
Hey Bucket, anything new regarding any current players? Rios, Alexei, Peavy, Lindstrom? What can we expect for a return?
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 06:58 PM) I think to do a rebuild right the bullpen should always be the first to go because of how difficult it is to get consistent high-level performance out of relievers from one year to the next. More to the point on Reed though, I want a closer with better stuff than he when this team is ready to contend for a championship. I agree on the relievers being a year in year out thing. But with Reed he has a fastball between 93-96 with a plus slider and a plus change up. Honestly, I think you're being a little greedy. You.don't need overpowering stuff to be a closer, just one who can step up in the 9th. Reed has done that with 24-28 save attempts and 2 of those the defense failed him. Personally, Reed has been tremendous in save situations and will only get better.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 06:07 PM) Very much so especially if the sale extends to guys like De Aza, Dunn, and Reed which I hope it does. I wouldn't mind Dunn and De Aza to a lesser extent because he still is having a pretty good year offensively. Reed hasn't even hit arbitration yet, and that's not how you do a rebuild. He is controlled for 4 or 5 more years unless you're absolutely blown away with a deal.
-
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 14, 2013 -> 05:13 PM) That's what I'm thinking too. It's very realistic that the Sox can finish worse than the Astros. Hard to be worse than the Marlins, but even that could happen. Marlins have 35 wins. Astros have 33 wins. White Sox have 37 wins. We can very well be in contention for that number 1 pick considering were about to be major sellers at the deadline. Marlins and Astros will essentially have the same teams.

When will Jacobs make his debut? Still not listed on the Barons' roster yet.
