  1. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 05:17 PM) http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/boston-...deadline-071213 I bet Thornton and Lindstrom both go quickly after the break. I could definitely see the Red Sox over pay for someone like Thornton and Crain. I forgot where I heard it, but I heard that the Red Sox absolutely would love to add Crain.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) What this tells me, more than anything, is that they are committed to Robin. You don't let your manager's doghouse play much of a role in who you are trading if you are about to cut that manager loose. I was thinking the same thing. That RV is here to stay.
  3. Peavy & Crain for Eaton, Anderson, Lamb, and Owings? Too much?
  4. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 11:09 AM) Is Chris Owings and Randall Delgado a good return for Peavy at this point? No surprise that Kevin Towers would like Peavy back. Ahh yes you are right. I did read that the DBacks were looking at the relievers too. Peavy & Crain?
  5. If everyone including bucket thinks the player out of favor is De Aza, does anyone think we can actually get value for him? Offensively, minus the strikeouts, he has had a great year so far out of the leadoff hole. I do not think he is a leadoff hitter but lower in the order that can provide speed can be lethal especially in the NL.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 10:41 AM) You can never have enough pitching. It's cliche, but it's also true. That is very true. I put that tweet first in the Rios thread and I don't know why but, I was thinking what if we package Peavy and Alexei to the DBacks for Didi, Delgado, Davidson and 2 lower tier prospects? Thoughts?
  7. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 06:14 AM) That would be an interesting deal. On one hand, Delgado has had decent numbers so far in his major league starts. On the other hand. I would rather get positional talent for a guy like Peavy. Would much rather get Matt Davidson out of the deal and I think he is pretty blocked. It is interesting. I was thinking the same thing as to why they would be looking at pitching. Unless maybe they feel confident enough we can get a good return for Rios & Crain. Honestly I would offer Peavy and Alexei for Delgado, Davidson and Gregarious and see if they bite.
  8. Well here's something. Buster Olney tweeted that the DBacks have been looking at Peavy and that the Sox have had scouts at their games to watch Randall Delgado. What you guys think?
  9. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 11:22 PM) I don't have much more info right now. I usually get more as the deadline gets closer. Ok thanks. When can we expect a deal to happen? After the All Star break?
  10. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 10:56 PM) Here's what I've been told...(one source), FWIW - Close on a couple deals (real names exchanged) - Sale is not untouchable - Several guys are on their way out just to be gone (out of favor with RV) What teams is Hahn listening to for Sale? What names have been discussed? What players out of favor?
  11. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 07:42 PM) You can complain about Hawkins' assignment over and over and over, but if he busts it won't be because of his assignments. At some point the player needs to figure things out if they're going to make the bigs. Completely agree. He does need to take what he has learned and improve next year with the Dash
  12. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 07:09 PM) If we add 4 or 5 more quality bats to our lineup, we can be favored in many of these games. This week's series shows we already have Detroit's number and that's the most important challenge to conquer. There's no reason we can't win this division if Hahn goes out and picks up 4 or 5 guys who can hit .300 and drive in 50+ runs after the break. Are you being serious? Either way, it's really hard to get 4 or 5 hitters in an off season alone. With our farm system, won't happen.
  13. It really bothers me to see Hawkins struggling. Question, did the Sox start Hawkins in high A or was he ever with Kannapolis?
  14. Lindstrom had made a nice pitch in on Miguel Cabrera. And Thornton had a very nice 8th inning today too that I'm sure scouts liked.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) CC Sabathia was traded for Matt LaPorta, Rob Bryson, Zach Jackson, and a PTBNL. The only player who turned out to be worth a damn was the PTBNL - Michael Brantley. That was for a half of a season for CC. Sale under team control for 6 year's, and is 24. So yes, If the Sox were to trade Sale, he would require a package doubled what the Haren trade was
  16. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 11:54 AM) Guess who is 28 in 4 years and still under control? Chris Sale And Santiago will be 29 and Quintana will be 28. Could be a very very good rotation then.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 11:49 AM) That Frasor trade, which already provided value in getting money off the books, is looking pretty darn good right now. Jaye is doing pretty well too. Just looked at his stats too this season. Jaye, I could see having a ceiling of a back end type of the rotation guy. I am impressed how he is pitching though as of late.
  18. Very good article. Honestly, I do like Reed a lot as our closer. His ERA is a little inflated with giving up runs in non save situations and 2 of his blown saves are because of the defense letting him down. With that being said, I can definitely see Webb coming up once Lindstrom, Thronton and Crain get traded, that if he continues his success in AAA. Going forward, we might be seeing Axelrod in the long relief role, Castro replacing Lindstrom, Webb replacing Crain and a young LHP to replace Thornton (I don't know if we have that in the system, Rodriguez?). But things could get interesting.
  19. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) On MLBN for those outside the Chicago area and not stuck at work. It'll be interesting to see how well Phegley catches Sale.
  20. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 11, 2013 -> 09:27 AM) I believe you can only acquire pool money for the current season as the "slots" aren't established until around February. You can not trade money, you have to trade slots. Oh ok. Thanks for the clarification.
  21. If not get anything of significance for Thornton, how would you guys feel about getting international pool money for next year? Could very well be a possibility.
  22. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 06:21 PM) 100 percent agree....he did however mention Peavy going forward btw. Honestly, even better. With those 5 healthy, with a competent offense, at the very least the team will be competing and that's what we as fans can ask for.
  23. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 06:11 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 1m ... the nucleus under control for a while going forward that is going to help us compete." Expand Reply Retweet Favorite More Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 1m Interesting quote from Rick Hahn in a brief meeting with the beat writers a few minutes ago. And it goes: https://twitter.com/scottmerkin Sounds like Rick Hahn is ready to sell off the entire team....(sarcasm) But Hahn is right, build around the pitching. Sale, Santiago, Quintana and Danks in his last 4 starts all have done excellent this year. They just haven't gotten any run support. They haven't even hit arbitration yet and are on and will be on team friendly contracts. The Sox trade a few pieces this year like Peavy, Rios, Alexei, Thornton, Crain, Lindstrom and get some valuable prospects back and the team can be relevant again in a couple years. Then with that money, go after some free agent bats in the upcoming off seasons.
  24. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 05:05 PM) From Jim Bowden at ESPN. This is speculation, not rumor: http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/the-gms-office/post?id=7103 Honestly, if that's all we can get for Rios AND Alexei then count me out. You know once it gets closer to the trade deadline, teams will get desperate. Only reason I say this is because if this whole Biogenesis operation is true and players to get suspended. The Rangers are a team that takes a hit and would be very desperate for a right fielder, and Rios is the best available. Wait for that and make a team overpay. As for trading Sale, for me it has to be an absolutely ridiculous deal with my 2 teams I would trade him to are the Cardinals and DBacks. Sale & Alexei to Cardinals for Adams, Wacha, Wong, Martiniez, Taverez, Tilson and Piscotty Sale & Rios to the DBacks for Skaggs, Bradley, Eaton, Davidson, Owings, Holmberg, Lamb and Chafin. It would take a lot, but teams would not deplete their systems for this.
  25. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 22, 2012 -> 04:36 PM) Floyd for Markakis. Move Rios to LF. Move Viciedo to 1B. Trade PK for prospects. That would be terrible. Viciedo at 1B is not a good idea. Sneaky deal, Hahn will land Upton some how
