Being committed to a potential gross overpay long term vs. pennies for a stop gap...And I'm not even against Castellanos, just don't want to overpay, would probably prefer Puig
-
32 coming off a partially torn Achilles...meh
-
I'm all for Castellanos or Puig if the money is right, we'll see...both of those moves let us contend next year and offer long term value
-
Isn't Betances out all of '20? Pass
-
Exactly what I want CWS to avoid
-
What if it's for relative pennies if/when CWS miss out on EE and Castellanos/Puig? Not that I' saying Avi is a must but a quality stop gap for a season worst case scenario
-
Yup, and while I recognize he's a defensive liability in RF I would want him to DH if Sox miss out on EE, would be a supersub off the bench if we can land both EE and Puig/Castellanos Didn't realize he really is that young, a sub-30 FA is a pretty rare find, not that I love Castellanos but I can get behind signing him to a 3/4 year deal if the money is right Mazara was of interest to Hahn a year ago, wonder if he still is One of the only deals I'd be wiling to make at this point in time along with Haniger or Pederson if we aren't giving up too much 5/90 would be too much for me to support, bringing in Avi if Sox pay Grandal, Abreu, and an arm makes sense to me if DH or RF are left unadressed Hopefully Abreu will be the full time DH in 2020 and beyond assuming Vaughn pans out so a stopgap like Avi or EE makes a lot of sense short term Now, now...I'm not holding rallies to bring in Castellanos, but I don't think anyone should be compared to that clown

I've laid out very similar thoughts on this board and have been destroyed, but agree with you 100% Not only do short term productive vets not strap us down to a huge payments, but they let us compete as well while "filling the bill" (eating innings, mentoring, etc.) All for EE cheap (although I'm sure NYY or TOR bring him back), Puig is attractive as well and even Adams Jones and a vet arm or two as Hahn has hinted (Hamels, Miley, Nova) Additionally, I've mentioned building an innings base on Kopech and Cease as well and been destroyed And while bringing in Betts is no guarantee, it makes more sense to spend wild next year anyways and take the step from a winning contender to a WS contender Not sure Cespedes will even be relevant a year from now however hahahaha And boy is Eloy, Robert, and Betts frankly insane, what a luxury that would be When the core of this team is set in stone, then is when you deal the leftovers for SP or whatever is needed to elevate us Excellent post that I hope gets received well Sox went after him last year as well Makes a ton of sense, McCann more likely a fluke than a breakout guy as well Grandal would be able to hold down C for 3-4 years, great with pitchers, and defensively as well
-
While you can't plan for a single FA to sign here, I would spend whatever it took ti bring in a perennial MVP candidate like Betts...Regardless I'm more interested in shorter term deals this offseason anyway with youth still being infused (Kopech, Dunning, Collins, Adolfo, Rutherford, Walker, Gonzalez, Vaughn) Still hoping for Grandal this offseason, Castellanos doesn't do much for me, reeks of an overpay although he would be an upgrade
-
Would only be interested in dealing for him for a deal that BOS wouldn't make Time to look at Ozuna/Puig/Castellanos for RF and Donaldson/Encarnacion for DH
-
Hopefully sets a fire under his ass and he goes off next year (i think he will regardless)

Angels decline $14 million option on Kole Calhoun

Didn't see Dietrich, would be a nice bench piece 100% -
Not sure is Cole/Stras is doable, but would love it...Pederson can be had for not too much...prefer him to Calhoun and Dickerson
-
he's priority #1 for me with JDM returning to BOS, frankly not ready to dump any significant prospects yet at this point in the process for JDM Grandal, Ozuna, Abreu, Encarnacion, Kendrick would make me happy for offensive pick ups Ozuna>Puig>Castellanos for me for RF if I could have negative interest in Calhoun and Dickerson I would
-
The White Sox way
-
I'd hope not, but I've read multiple times on here that he'll be limited as his arm has never pitched X amount of innings
-
Yet still an improvement Gio, Hamels, Miley, Cease (innings limit likely) , Lopez is more than fine to me Kopech will also be back (likely on an innings limit) as well Rodon at some point and maybe Dunning
-
Awesome, I remember seeing him in A ball years ago back as Carlos, well deserved Hopefully we bring him back as a plus, versatile defender off the bench
-
Interesting, bold indeed, but doubt JR is spending that kind of money
-
If JDM returns to Boston, I think Grandal becomes priority #1 for us (excluding Abreu)...then RF (Ozuna, Puig, Castellanos) and DH (Encarnacion, Kendrick) Think everyone on this forum knows I'm all for an affordable, innings eating vet starter or two on the short term (Hamels, Miley) JDM, Grandal, Abreu, Hamels, Miley, Kendrick seems ideal/realistic to me I like the idea of having Kendrick at 2B until Madrigal is up and then move him to DH or as a versatile bat off the bench
-
A bit high hahaha, 3/$45 sounds about right
-
Jordan and Kjerstad both interesting names late

Sox trade rights to Welington Castillo to rangers
ChiSoxJon replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
But when the Sox find a LatAm steal, we either deal him for damaged gets or get outbid by an Astros scout spying -
Additionally, I wouldn't equate Zach Wheeler to Max Scherzer ?
-
Wouldn't call Scherzer an overspend, I'd call that appropriate value...
