  1. After we kissed Jeter's ass in ChiTown, Jeter better give PK some gifts today or the Yankees can be ashamed
  2. Well when JR passes we may be faced with this situation (told his sons to sell Sox but not Bulls), I have this thought that maybe Mark Cuban will buy them but I don't know, I'll always be a fan, they can play in a sandlot in Mumbai and I'd still be a diehard, I've only seen them about a handful of times in person (all away, I live on the East Coast) but I follow each and every game
  3. I guess Danks would be a solid fourth OF behind Tank, Eaton, and Avi but I'd like to pick one up in FA, maybe trade De Aza for a reliever
  4. Great kid, met him recently, at the beginning of his streak
  5. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 10:51 AM) Zero chance Manny gets in. He was busted twice and is one positive test away from a permanent ban. Ortiz has a shot because everybody just likes to forget about his failed test it seems. If you're right that's a shame, obviously his own fault, but definitely one of the scariest hitters ever, Sheffield is in that same boat
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 10:15 AM) At least 50-75% or more of the players today aren't using steroids. From that era, the only hitters who are going to make the Hall of Fame are Thomas, Griffey, Jr., Jeter and Omar Vizquel. Ichiro and David Ortiz are going to be questionable for different reasons, although Ichiro definitely deserves it if you consider his entire body of work career-wise. Then Pujols, who has a ton of questions surrounding him as well. Believe me I'm majorly against PEDs, killed the sport, but the early 00's up until about 10-12 were some great times for baseball, BOS-NYY games were nationally must watches, something that ESPN must learn doesn't interest us anymore, I also think Manny will be HOF no doubt and Ortiz and definitely Pujols, Jeter, and Griffey, I think the likes of Bonds, Clemens, McGuire, Sosa, Sheffield, etc will never see the HOF however, which I agree with The days of talented all time great hitters like Manny, Griffey, Ortiz, Thome, Jeter, are better than Trout, Puig, and Harper, (Yes I know Manny was suspended, and Ortiz cheated but not as severe as Bonds and Clemens) anyone agree with me? Anyone notice how young the MLB got too over the last 2 years, all the All-Stars are in there early to mid 20's
  7. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 09:36 AM) He'll go down as one of my favorite Sox players of all-time. Always an awesome guy on/off the field. Definitely one of my favorites of all time and obviously one of my favorites of the century, put him up there with Frank, Jenks, AJ, PK, wonder how much publicity Mark would have gotten if he wasn't on the Second Team in the Second City, in my opinion, one of the best starters of the 00's along with CC, Oswalt, Halladay, Johan, that cowd of aces (off topic but baseball was more enjoyable in that 00's era that now in my opinion, just so much talent, and I'm not talking about roids guys either, just more exciting times, maybe because the White Sox are rebuilding now but I don't know, those Boston teams were some of the best teams in any sport of all time, really hope this game doesn't slowly die, need some more Manny's and Ichiro's and PK's and Buerhle's instead of these ignorant hustle shows like Puig and even Harper)
  8. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 18, 2014 -> 09:10 AM) He's 41 HRs away from 500. Let's say for argument's sake he's 35 away at the end of the season. I could imagine him wanting to stick around to get 500, but it would probably take him at least 2 years, especially if he ends up in a platoon situation somewhere. Edit: I saw that he said he wouldn't stick around just to hit 500 HRs, but I'm not sure if I buy that. If he has a chance to play with a contender, that might change things. I think he can super successful in the AL East or NL again, can totally see him on NYY, BOS, BAL, or TOR, could do some damage there as a lefty, either striking out or homering of course
  9. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 09:01 AM) Not exactly the same mistake; Sox only team to draft Mitchell instead of Trout. Some of the other 22 teams probably drafted a pretty good baseball player; Sox got a football player. Just meaningless hindsight blabber now. Mitchell looked pretty good for a year or two. It would be interesting to see those first round picks if you have the link. Was Mitchell a surprise pick that year? Can't remember. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Major_Le..._Baseball_Draft Can't lie, I was a HUGE fan of the Mitchell pick...just noticed LA got Garrett Richards in the second round that year, what a draft for them...we got Phegley
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 08:46 AM) Being inside the protected picks isn't going to matter that much, because we're not going after Lester, Scherzer or Shields. Same thing with Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez. Who else would we be interested in that's going to get a QO? Russell Martin, I guess. But 15 teams will be after a catcher. Yasmani Thomas and Rusney Castillo wouldn't be affected by being in the protected 10 picks. Same with the Japanese starting pitcher (although I think after what happened with Tanaka they would steer clear). Nelson Cruz should be on our target list...but for nothing more than a 2 year contract with an option for a third year. Victor Martinez...maybe? But probably going back to the Tigers in all likelihood. Seems we'll be picking through the bargain/flawed/damaged goods bin, looking at guys like Masterson, Colby Rasmus, Michael Morse, etc. That sounds more like the typical ChiSox pick-up, wouldn't mind Masterson at all, imagine if he fixes himself with Sale, Quintana, and Roon? Rasmus? we're fine in the OF and same with Morse but I'd like to add some relievers and catching depth, aside from that let the youth movement continue...and get our 1st rounder, more International spneding money, and no loss of 1st round pick...lotta positives and it continues when we deal Danks and Dunn and De Aza
  11. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 02:25 PM) Reading some articles to see what college Thomore had committed to and I see he also tore his hamstring in his 2nd season of rookie league ball with the Rockies and that hampered him for a long time. http://www.mycentraljersey.com/story/sport...agues/11714051/ Such a shame although he still has it, if Morris didn't have such a cannon I'd love to see Thomore in RF, maybe he'll repeat Kanny next year or at least start there
  12. The Kanny radio broadcast is fantastic, broadcaster knows his stuff, does great interviews (that I'd like to hear more of), and is funny as hell
  13. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 12:09 PM) Yep. Looks like Nick has the real scoop above and an article to go with it. I knew it was bad. Did not know about his mother and it appears he got hurt before being drafted. I still think there's potential, wonder where he was committed to for baseballl
  14. QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 11:54 AM) I believe he had a nasty leg break early in his pro career. He was highly touted HS hitter. Great arm in the OF and could run a bit. The team that took him relatively early gave up on him and we took a shot. WOW, never knew that, knew he was drafted very high with COL outta high school, he still has a solid arm and pretty solid speed, still could be something
  15. I couldn't make today's game, the final of the series, but I'm listening to it on radio, Brito is not 6 foot, he's 6'7! I knew that was impossible, he's extremely lanky, his dad just passed last week too, wish him all the best
  16. QUOTE (newguy @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 10:03 AM) Hello everybody. I am Brad's father. I will try to keep the emotion out of the discussion since I am obviously biased. I am only responding to this to provide some additional information. I certainly appreciate all of your positive comments & I hope Brad continues to improve & perform. Regarding the "velocity" concern. I was actually very happy to hear about all the movement of his offspeed pitches. I wonder if the person who wrote that was at the game? Anyway, regardling velocity, Brad typically sits around the 90-91 range, but on a few occasions this year, both at Great Falls & Kannapolis, he has been able to top out at 94. As you stated, more velocity will come as he continues to re-learn how to pitch. He hasn't pitched since his junior year of high school in 2009 & has only been a "pitcher" for about a year now. It was about this time last season at Great Falls that he actually got to pitch in games. Hope that info helps. Welcome! Yes I was at the game, your son made those hitters look silly in the 9th
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 09:12 AM) Ortiz has some nasty stuff, just hasn't translated it to results. His fastball is solidly mid-90's with nice movement, and his slider flashes plus (though was, at last report, very inconsistent). His control and repeating delivery need serious work. Thanks for all that! Austin looked pretty lost defensively in that national TV game they had, which I watched. Good to hear he's putting that together now. Dowdy is usually regarding as a strong defensive catcher, so his struggles are a little surprising. Brennan is in recovery mode. His fastball was a 92-95 sinker when drafted, but his strength is probably gone and he needs to build it back up. Honestly, if he can just do OK at Kanny this year, then maybe pitch in the fall instructs, that's a win. I've liked Stringer since last year, wrote him into the Next Wave article this past offseason. Seemed like a weird choice when they gave Shryock the job in Kanny and left Stringer in extended, but that's been righted now and Stringer has some interesting tools. Austin just looked solid, nothing too special although he does have a solid arm, Dowdy scared me a little I agree 100% with you on Brennan If Stringer can bat .260-.270 by September I'd keep an eye on him, great defense, team has a lot of good defenders
  18. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 12:22 AM) Great info, Jon. Thanks for the insight. What did you think of Thomore at the plate? He was an intriguing prospect before his injury, but it seems like he's just not hitting enough. When I saw him in May he was doing really well and I thought he was back to being a prospect, he still makes solid contact but some of his swings almost look like check swings, he's still young but I think with Instructs in the Fall and some work with Sasser or maybe even Thome one day, he can go back to being a very very solid contact hitter. What was his injury? I don't even remember
  19. Final Kanny Game Live report: -Thomore and Engel continue to cover a ton of ground in the OF, make everything look easy -Michalczewski, a HS SS (and WR in football) looks solid at third defensively but if he develops more at a higher level I'd like to see him move to first, actually no...we need a 3B - Many questioned Austin's D on draft day, but he looked solid this series, Dowdy has been a mess defensively - Brennan got lit up and had control issues early but settled down, has a nice slider or curve, couldn't really tell, but has a FB that reaches 91 at most - Christian Stringer is a very athletic and acrobatic and instintive defender, really impressed me -Hayes has some big time power, been killing the ball this weekend after a mini slump, when he's not hitting bombs he's always hitting smoked linedrives, good to see, could add some more muscle -Brennan looked comfortable on the mound which impressed me, got outta a few jams -Jacob Morris made his second monster throw of the series, has an absolute cannon, relatively accurate as well -Ryan Leonards has speed and plays quality D, I know he's 23 but if he doesn't make major hitting improvements by Sept., I'd love to see him repeat, has talent Any questions on any players or any reports needed from Kanny, please ask, loaded with information, even Philly prospects I saw too, had a few that impressed
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 09:44 PM) Salgado has been outstanding converting into a pitcher so far. Rooting for the kid. Throws a lot of nasty offspeed stuff, FB reaches 88-89 as seen tonight but his movement is filthy, most of his pitches were 78-81, pretty normal delivery and arm action, his 1 jersey looks so odd on a pitcher
  21. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 10:40 PM) Totally serious. It's so cool when some of us get to actually see the minor league teams play. I appreciate the info. Otherwise, I'm only looking at box scores and occasional highlights. I'm hoping myself to see the Voyagers in a couple of weeks. Tonight's kanny recap coming right up
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 04:55 PM) They've been much appreciated, it was most definitely a sincere comment. Wow thanks guys really appreciate it
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 03:48 PM) Looking forward to any reports! Thanks! I've been posting since Saturday in the daily threads if you've missed any
  24. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 03:52 PM) I've been enjoying your game reports. Hahaha I can't tell if that's sarcastic or not because they are poorly written, I just try to share my observations, but thanks a lot, I appreciate if you're serious
  25. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 03:42 PM) It's pretty tough to get a young catcher that A. Will be pretty decent and stick at catcher as long as the team would like B. Won't cost you a couple top prospects since they are very rare. I know I didn't offer a real solution, but I'm pretty confident in saying Hahn is exploring every possible option to get a serious C prospect in the mix. I'm hoping we can somehow wind up with a Peavy like return this year, a long term franchise cornerstone and maybe some future depth, great deal
