QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 05:04 PM) We have a ton of minor league experts who I'm sure could project at least 15-20 of those guys. Fry's a possibility to start there...although they might be more aggressive and put him in Winston-Salem as a collegiate pitcher. About half of that roster's going to come from this year's June draft, with quite a few from the DSL, AZL, Great Falls. Ayala, the catcher...whose name has been talked about a lot the last couple of years, he SHOULD be there. major major long shot, haha, believe it or not his 19 year old ass was released, it's a shame I wanted to see him but looks like he may attend school now, baseball didn't work out

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 03:52 PM) Based on potential, yes. But until he starts putting up those numbers at Kanny, it's a bit like Micker Adolfo. It's nice to be able to say an Adams doesn't automatically join the Top 10, fwiw. There's finally some depth. For a comparison, Beck has always been talked about like he SHOULD have been drafted in the first round, and that's gotten him the benefit of the doubt without the results to really back it up 100%. But Adams needs to turn that potential into good results next year in Kanny before he's a definite Top 10 inclusion. And Fry doesn't have dominating stuff, so he's going to have to prove himself at every level, ala Mark Buehrle...albeit quite different initial draft positions, obviously. Just for the hell of it because I follow Kanny a lot and see them play a good amount, who can we expect in Kanny next year? some names or a roster projection would be nice

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 02:50 PM) 1. Carlos Rodon 2. Tim Anderson 3. Micah Johnson 4. Courtney Hawkins 5. Matt Davidson 6. Tyler Danish 7. Carlos Sanchez 8. Frank Montas 9. Trayce Thompson 10. Chris Beck 11. Trey Michalczewski 12. Rangel Ravelo 13. Spencer Adams 14. Jacob May 15. Jeffery Wendelken 16. Keon Barnum 17. James Dykstra 18. Micker Adolfo 19. Jason Coats 20. Adam Engel 21. Cleuluis Rondon 22. Tyler Saladino 23. Robinson Leyer 24. Brett Austin 25. Jordan Guerrero Watch List Thad Lowry Kevan Smith Danny Hayes Ryan Leonards Jefferson Olacio Kyle Hansen Joey DiMichele Chris Freudenberg Agree with the majority of the list, well done, however Spencer Adams must be Top 10 I'd assume, has a 1st round grade, total steal, one would assume Jace Fry is also top 15ish

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) I don't know, but his numbers in his first stint in AA never warranted a bump to AAA in the first place. Honestly the only quality hitting he's done at all was his first season at Kanny and now. I'm rooting for him too. I also believe he's had two good stints in the AFL and Spring Training at least once

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 11:26 AM) I was going to make this thread, but I guess I can combine my info with yours. Please go right ahead, probably know more than me, sorry for doing so, just post your stuff right in here Do we have similar tastes just for the hell of it? Like any of these prospects for us or just in general?

At the moment, our ChiSox would have the 12th overall selection in next June's amateur draft, however most of the league is bunched up, really early but here are some prospects I, personally, like for us: Round 1: RHP, Mike Mattuella, Duke (hard throwing righty, great size, could go 1.1) SS/OF, Jahmai Jones, GA-HS (athletic toolsy OF with good swing, questionable defense, KW should love) RHP, Carson Fulmer, Vandy (hard throwing righty, K guy) 2B/SS, Dansby Swanson, Vandy (line drive hitter, great contact, plus speed, amazing glove, CWS MOP) RHP, Kyle Funkhouser, L-Ville (throws hard but wild, has plus sliders, fastballs, and change-ups) OF, Skye Bolt, UNC (Athletic switch hitter, contact hitter, potential power, huge arm, great glove, versatile OF) RHP, Kyle Cody, Kentucky (HUGE 6'7' 245 lb. with 97 MPH FB, needs to work on control and secondary pitches) RHP, Tyler Ferguson, Vandy (Great size, throws hard, solid secondary stuff) RHP, Grayson Long, TAMU (FINALLY, Addison Reed's successor, future closer, loose arm, throws hard) RHP, Cody Poteet, UCLA (athletic hard throwing, hard working righty) LHP, Cole Irvin, Oregon (Projectable lanky lefty, throws hard, great control) Guys in the later rounds: LHP, Mark McCoy, WF/Rutgers (solidly built lefty, HS legend in NJ, tore up Cape Cod League, former HS QB) RHP, Jamies Winston, FSU (Amazing baseball talent, hard to pull away from NFL and FSU but he could either sign cheap and change his mind, not sign, and save money for '15's version of Bryce Montes De Oca, and promote the ChiSox and farm system) OF, Rhett Wiseman, Vandy (great defensive OF, high energy, CWS champion, contact hitter, solid speed) OF, John Norwood, Vandy (Big time power, big size, CWS champion, hard worker, can be big time steal)

I just saw the Top 100 prospects from 2007, Dice-K was 1 while the Sox had 3 (Fields, Danks, Sweeney), god times do change, lotta big stars on that list however, found it funny to see "Donald" Veal in there for the Cubs too

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 10:23 PM) Michael Taylor 2-3 with 2 doubles and a walk Davidson 2-5 Phegley 3-5, double Ravelo 0-3, hit streak on the line Jared Mitchell 3-4 with 2 homers I heard that the biggest jump in the minors is from high A to AA for hitters especially because the pitching is a lot better, if that's the case how can Mitchell struggle at AAA so much? It's pretty similar to AA I assume, yet obviously the closest to MLB, I'm really rooting for Mitchell and loved his section in '09, felt awful for that ankle injury, and just want him in the show as soon as possible, it's sad seeing him struggle this much in AAA

2 things...how much of a prospect is Marin? and regardless of his control issues, does anyone else realize Andrew Mitchell has .199 AVG against him? That's fantastic, I knew he was a prospect coming outta TCU but how much of one is he know?

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 11:42 AM) It's a risk/reward type of thing. He was thought of as a 2nd rounder but teams were scared off by his medicals and commitment to Mizzou. If he stays healthy, big if, he has the stuff to go in the first round. If he goes in the middle of the first round, he'll get 2.5 million and he'll have the perks and excitement of attending school and playing college ball. I believe it gets understated, but when you are in the low minors life isn't all that glamorous. Compare that to being the big man on campus at an SEC school, being the Friday night starter pitching in front of packed stadiums with crazy fans, I can understand the appeal. If you can get more money and enjoy the college experience, can you fault him for wanting it all? All that being said, if he gets hurt in college he will end up with next to nothing and he's already had Tommy John once. I don't think many people know that, I live right near the Phillies A team in NJ and I see how these guys live, it's not glamorous at all, but being a young guy with no immediate family chasing the dream with great ball players has to be a dream come true...off topic, I know, but I think life in the Independent leagues is even worse, horrible life style, horrible benefits...thanks for pointing this out Hitman

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 11:15 AM) Do you think it's possible Ravelo would get the call rather than Wilkins if Dunn goes? Or do you get the sense they want him to hit for more power in minors? To tel you the truth, I'd rather see Dan Black on the South Side than Wilkins if possible, that kid has earned it with his time and numbers in the minors...not that Wilkins hasn't
-
If you're Bryce Montes De Oca and were just drafted by the Chicago White Sox last month and also have a commitment to Missouri baseball, a top SEC program, what would it take for you to sign and start playing professionally at 18? Yes I understand Montes De Oca will likely never step foot in the White Sox organization but I'm just wondering what it would take (money and otherwise) for him to not go to Missouri, where he can prove himself and make more money in 3 years, gain an education, and maybe even an SEC title or award, and rather go to Camelback Ranch and for him to start his career as a ChiSock and start climbing the ranks to the Show, earning money, playing professionally, and learning from Coop every Spring. Anyways, best of luck to this kid, wouldn't mind drafting him in 2017 if he can really prove himself.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 09:08 AM) For everyone saying they want Ravelo in AAA, I agree he's ready, but there is absolutely nowhere to put him right now. Likely that changes in the next few weeks as trades loosen things up, but until then, it won't kill him to stay in AA a few more weeks. Considering we're in no place to sell our prospects, wouldn't this deadline and the draft and international signings tighten things up?

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 02:40 AM) The cutter has been an absolute career save for Terrance Marin. Will he ever be a legitimate prospect?

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 02:24 PM) I hope Hahn uses that exact phrase when he calls around on Danks -- Orwell would be proud. John Danks' xFIP (I know, not the end all be all) is 4.76. His ERA+ is 97. He's a 1-2 WAR pitcher, aka a decent 4th or a really good 5th. He's overpaid by about 4-6 million a year and oh yea he had a serious shoulder problem not long ago. You could perhaps net a prospect in the 5-15 range from a mediocre system (aka New York's) at absolute best for him and you'd have to probably send 5 million or so along with it. Personally I'd rather just keep him and see if he can continue to evolve. I'm not very hopeful but unless someone is willing to just take all his salary and/or wildly overpay in prospects, I'd keep him. Remember when he started on Opening Day? Not too long ago he was our ace, extended for 13 million a season for five years, and considered one of the best lefties (I don't remember that but Michael Kay says it all the time when ChiSox play NYY) I just saw him as the 6th top trade chip for this year's deadline yesterday too somewhere The need is there and Hahn can take major advantage of it
-
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 01:19 PM) Danks is NOT worth anything like those prospects. You'd be surprised, he's under control through 2016, pitching great at the moment, and isn't even 30...NYY is desperate for quality starting now too, really desperate, I'll admit maybe my propositions are a little too high but an actual deal would be right around there
-
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 12:54 PM) That would be dumb. You can't dump flowers until you have a better option. Flowers last year in AAA at Charlotte he hit .260. This year at Charlotte Phegley is hitting .250. What they can do is give Nieto more games but obviously the staff feels Flowers handles the pitchers better or they already would have done that. Papelbon is a great closer but makes Adam Dunn type money. Are you sure you want to pay him $13 Mil??? Reed was making $550,000 Absolutely not, just need a closer really bad, really hoping Jenks can make a comeback somehow
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 12:30 PM) Guys we should move: Adam Dunn Gordon Beckham Tyler Flowers Guys we could move for right deal John Danks Dayan Viciedo Alexei Ramirez Hector Noesi What could Flowers or Noesi net us?
-
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 12:20 PM) The Sox aren't in a position to trade away prospects in my opinion. I agree with that, unless we can move a low ranked prospect for a 'pen piece that can help us contend
-
Sadly there's no really interesting catchers available, however I'd be down to pick up either Hochevar or Beckett and definitely some 'pen help like Andrew Miller, Chris Perez, Dustin McGowan, Jesse Crain, or Heath Bell
-
Guys That Must Be Shopped No Matter What: Dunn (KC, NYY, TOR) Belisario (Det, LAA, CIN, MIL) Guys That Can Be Shopped If Non Contending (8+ GB after ASG): Danks (NYY, TOR, PIT) De Aza (LAA, ATL, CIN, BOS) Guys That Should Be Interested in If Contending ( Jon Papelbon, PHI AJ Pierzynski, BOS Neal Cotts, TEX Joakim Soria, TEX Jason Frasor, TEX Oliver Perez, ARI Houston Street, COL I would really only want AJ if we can sign him as a cheap FA for a 1-2 year deal, Papelbon has been my favorite closer of this century besides Jenks so I'd always welcome him, obviously need a closer, Cotts can be acquired for next to nothing but Soria and Frasor and Street would need bigger packages, and I've loved Perez since his starting days and think we would improve our bullpen immediately with quality depth Selling Wise I think Dunn and Belisario (if possible) must be moved no matter what, Dunn really can't get much in return and Belisario might not even gain interest but they must be shopped. De Aza probably should be shopped as well as Garcia is returning soon hopefully and the OF is already crowded, hopefully he can net a decent return. Finally, I've never bee na real big fan of Danks up until the last 2 months, his numbers have been great since returning from surgery but if we get the right offer (A prospect, B prospect, 2 low level prospects) I'd be all in to move him. Our rotation is and will be SouthPaw heavy, moving him opens up roster space, salary relief (for acquiring a RHSP), and can net solid prospects in return Just a few BS quick deals I thought of: Dunn to NYY in exchange for salary relief and Low A RHSP Brady Lail Belisario to CIN in exchange for AA RHP Carlos Gonzales and AAA 3B Juan Silverio De Aza to ATL in exchange for RHP Shae Simmons Danks to NYY in exchange for A+ RHP Luis Severino, AA C/OF Peter O'Brien, A LHP Caleb Smith, and AA LHP Dan Carmena Danks to PIT in exchange for AAA RHP Nick Kingham (Imagine Sale, Rodon, Quintana, Beck, Kingham), A OF Jacoby Jones, and A RHP Buddy Borden
-
I like the idea of sending him to the rich Yanks for salary relief and catching prospect Peter O'Brien, decent average 25 HRs this year, was a top college player, Yanks have McCann, we have Flowers
-
Whether we're contending or sinking at the bottom of the AL Central I think we can all agree Dunn should be moved. What can be our return from any teams that may be interested. Throw some team and prospect names around. I say we can get at most a B level prospect and low level pitching prospect. Share

Micah Johnson is officially a top 100 prospect, congrats Micah

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 09:02 AM) That doesn't mean they traded Buehrle for Barnum. They gave up Buehrle, got back Barnum AND ABOUT $50M. Kind of a key element there. Every indication was that Mark wasn't worth that kind of money anymore. And sure enough on 6/24/14 he's worth every penny of it and Barnum is a mediocre high A 1B
