  1. QUOTE (bear_brian @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 02:23 PM) A few facts about Gordon Beckham last year: 1. Beckham hit .287 vs RH pitchers, but only .195 vs LH. That is the exact opposite of what you would think. 2. Beckham broke the hamate bone in his wrist after the first 7 games of the season. He missed six weeks, came back and through July 22nd had his average well over .300. On that date he re injured the wrist, tearing the ligament away from the bone. He continued to play the rest of the year, but hit .240 in August and a lowly .210 in September. When RV says he was hurt, he is not kidding. I think we need to give this kid a break. If his wrist has healed, there is no reason why he cannot be an above average 2B offensively - better than Semien - and certainly he is already an "A" defensively. There is little doubt in my mind that the Sox are going to commit to him unless somebody knocks them off their feet with an offer. If he wasn't healthy after the 6 weeks he missed then why did he continue to play?? Especially through September?? What was the point if he was hurt? Let him get healthy. I am done making excuses for Beckham and I think you should too. He is 27 and entering his 5th full year and hasn't progressed at all.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 01:56 PM) I agree. I want Semien to get an extended trial at AAA. What would happen if Beckham were traded and Semien (predictably) started the first 2 months of the year putting up something like .230/.270/.300? We'd be calling for him to get demoted and his confidence is shot. If you keep him at AAA, not only do I think he's more likely to succeed and possibly even force his way up, but if he struggles, he can work it out down there rather than facing the stress and rigors of an MLB atmosphere. You could also say after getting time in the bigs last year and being brought back to AAA could hurt his confidence especially after thinking he has a shot of making it.. Or we could just start him at 3B but I don't think that would be the right thing to do for him
  3. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 01:38 PM) So Phengley made his debut in 13 @ 25 yo in 204 AB's and is never going to amount to anything? Wasn't aware we had scouts posting on this board. I'm not saying he'll will be the next big thing at catcher, but I'm not going to write him off @25 yo after such a small sampling, that's just stupid. You just can't please some fans, I mean scouts. ST should be interesting with the competition at catcher. Could light some fires under a few asses for sure. Agreed, if they can't find a proven catcher in think Phegley needs to start, if he sucks through June then make a move
  4. I think we really need to trade Beckham. I want Semien to start from the start of the season to see what he can do
  5. Just let him start, who cares? He could end up being decent.
  6. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 07:11 PM) I think if the Sox are trying to move Viciedo, it goes to show you how out of favor he has fallen. Not saying he doesn't have talent/value, but the Sox must feel his swing is just never going to come around and be that big threat he has the potential to be. After last season, I don't see Viciedo turning into anything more than a Delmon Young type player. I honestly think it is because De Aza can steal bases and hit some home runs and isn't a station to station player so they would rather have him in the line up then Viciedo. They probably think we will have home runs from Dunn/Abreu/Garcia and that we need players who can do more then just hit home runs. De Aza gives you some speed and has some pop.
  7. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 01:40 PM) Anywhere he wants. You make room for that kind of bat! I sense sarcasm
  8. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 01:33 PM) Corey Hart to the Mariners. This means Justin Smoak is available guys! Let's do it! To play where
  9. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) A bunch of Chromecast apps just came out today, including Plex, which allows you to stream media from your computer (or your media server). It definitely makes my Chromecast purchase more worthwhile. I was hoping for some better apps. Most are music related
  10. I can honestly say I am very excited for next year and to watch these young guys. I hope we trade Beckham so Semien can start
  11. Garcia-Abreu-Eaton-Viciedo-Semien Sale-Quintana-Johnson-Reed That seems like a great core to build around
  12. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:53 PM) That is sobering, as 5 of those guys are offensive black holes. I see 2 that won't give you some production
  13. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:47 PM) Bruce Levine ‏@MLBBruceLevine 17m White Sox determined to get catcher at these meetings . Good, try and get Castro, that would be awesome
  14. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:05 PM) Considering Lowrie's 13 numbers and would be dealing with Billy Beane, I'm thinking it would take alot. Not the same guy. Lawrie from the Blue Jays not Lowrie from the A's
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 07:52 PM) http://blog.triblive.com/bucco-blog/2013/0...5#axzz2n7w76XmL Or not, with Marte, McCutcheon and Polanco, they project to one day in the not so distant future have the best young OF in all of baseball. If they want to just give us Jose Tabata for DeAza, that's at least worth considering. DeAza's definitely not part of the long-term plan in Chicago. They could still use Ramirez right?
  16. What about De Aza or Viciedo plus prospects for Seager?
  17. If we can swap him with a catcher or 3B or package him that would be great
  18. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 03:22 PM) Sale (L) - Quintana (L) - Danks (L) - Johnson ® - Rienzo ® - Paulino ® So you are good settling with Rienzo/Paulino??? I would rather sign a vet
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 03:19 PM) Danks is a 3-4 WAR pitcher if he's healthy and producing. He's a risk, which is why he's slotted #4. Johnson showed good command, strike out ability, and velocity. He's going to be rough around the edges, but he's a definite possibility to be a 3-4 WAR pitcher too. Well there are 5 pitchers to a rotation and we need another, a right hander IMO
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 03:13 PM) Erik Johnson sure can. So right now we are looking at Sale-Quintana-Johnson-Danks- Rienzo?? Paulino?? I would rather sign someone better then Danks or Johnson to plug into the rotation
  21. So whats next for us?? Trading Beckham, De Aza, or Viciedo??
  22. I feel like we need to sign a decent right handed starter who can be a #4 for us. Not sure if Paulino is that
  23. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) I got no remorse I like the deal for the Sox. Santiago was traded at the right time. It will depend on the prospect we give up
  24. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) We're not getting a prospect but we're giving one, that's confirmed now. Better not be one of our 5 or 6 interesting ones!
  25. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) @AdamSpankyEaton Well, that escalated quickly... Sounds excited to be a member of the Chicago White Sox
