  1. Mancini will be a FA next year. His value will never be higher that it is today. I just don't know how much leadership is needed on a team that's going to lose 100 games. Relievers I trade as soon as they perform if my team is bad. Sox looked at trading Foster/Heuer this offseason, I am going to guess they wish they did. Fry/Scott are pitching great and have control. They are assets until they have a few rough outings and balloon their ERA. Strike while the iron is hot.
  2. Sox have been on Mancini. He's a good hitter. I am not sure on right field and that's a fair point. You have Grandal, Moncada, TA, Robert and Hernandez for C, 3B, SS, CF and 2B. That leaves 1B, LF, RF and DH. Right now they have Abreu, Vaughn, Eloy, Engel, Sheets & Goodwin. If they swap Mancini in for Goodwin, we have 6 nice bats for four positions. I'd like to have nice players on the bench like other great teams do. It's not a perfect fit though but he'd help a lot and I'd rather trade our bullets for a guy with control. As for your second point, I wholeheartedly disagree. I know you know the game so I am bit surprised that's your take. The Orioles suck and will suck for the forseeable future. They are best served trading their valuable pieces when they have more control. More control gets them better players for the future, less good players in the present gets them a worse record and better draft positioning for more talent for the future. I know I am glad the Sox trade Sale, Q, Eaton when they had 1-3 years of control plus instead of waiting until they lost that value.
  3. The move for the Sox today is pretty simple. It's moving a package for Mancini and one of Paul Fry/Tanner Scott. Mancini + Fry/Scott for Burger, Thompson/Kelley/Dalquist, Stiever/Lamber, Yolbert Sanchez and McKinley Moore.
  4. Not sure if this is a joke or not but Not Steve Cishek is far too friendly to be Stone.
  5. They put Marshall on the 60 day IL to open a 40-man roster spot.
  6. And that was my point. We'll see if the Indians continue to produce pitchers as they have. A lot of injuries and performance fading since the substance ban.
  7. Sox are not adding this guy to the 40. If he wants to play in Charlotte on a MiLB deal sure but that's really it.
  8. Johnson move shouldn't be lumped in. It was strictly procedural. They'll sign him to MiLB later in the year.
  9. 5th rounder last year. Underslot at that. Those are not his numbers for the year. Where did you see/hear that?
  10. Why? The guy changed his walk up song to "Final Countdown" so I don't think he was surprised.
  11. I am well aware he's lefty. The Indians aren't known for big lefties was my point.
  12. Why do you think he's the first one to be used?
  13. Righties with good control and a FB/SL combo? I know you're just letting us know you would've known the deal before it was public but how is Pilkington the kind of pitcher Cleveland likes?
  14. They're waving the white flag and letting their fans know they don't care in one transaction.
  15. I think the power surge is a result of a change in approach but he's also probably getting some luck. His HR/FB% is the highest of his career the same year he has this highest FB% so it makes sense why he's having the best power season of his career. I think it's realisitic to expect him to hit for more power than his historical norms but I wouldn't expect him to continue to hit for power at the same rate as he has this year. That said, I don't know that his BABIP will regress to historical norms with this change in approach in mind. In any case, this is a guy with a .350 OBP since becoming a regular in the league. Sox are a better team than yesterday and losing Pilkington is in all likelihood inconsequential.
  16. Indians had no obligation for next year other than $1M buyout. Same goes for Sox.
  17. They would have to pick up his option to trade him. Westin -> Marriott His rate of hitting the ball in the air is way up too.
  18. BABIP over 70 points below career norms. Power way above career output.
  19. Adolis Garcia looked like he was running away with it and then he's recently hit a big skid. He's hitting .226/.278/.374 in his last 50 games. Vaughn is really trailing on PAs and the counting stats. Garcia - .254/.299/.486 - 22 HR 62 RBI 45 R 1.9 WAR 112 wRC+ - 91 games, 375 PAs Arozarena - .256/.334/.421 - 13 HR 60 RBI 60 R 1.4 WAR 112 wRC+ - 93 games, 401 PAs Vaughn - .262/.321/.455 - 11 HR 31 RBI 43 R 1.2 WAR 112 wRC+ - 88 games, 318 PAs Luis Garcia has been outstanding for Houston on the pitching side. Badoo is hitting his way into the picture. Haase with Detroit has big power numbers. I have Vaughn in 5th right now.
  20. He doesn't want to move to 2B long term is comment you're referencing. I.e., he wouldn't sign somewhere that wants to play him at 2B.
  21. Hahn had a deal to send Samardzija out of town for a player (then prospect) we all know of. Did not get approval from above. They wanted to go for it with the Sox 7 games back of the wildcard with 6 teams ahead of them.
  22. Baez is out with a sore heel coming in. Hoerner was at short and got hurt.
