  1. Interesting this year ST doesn't really have a favorite where most years there has been a guy. See a lot of different preferences.
  2. The active roster = 26 man roster. I.e. who can appear in a game. Active roster = 26 man roster.
  3. If you're going to use his high BABIP on one split to make your point you should probably use it on the other side as well. Your argument paints an incomplete picture. In all likelihood, he looks like he's going to come back down to earth a bit against LHP and should get some BABIP-fueled relief against RHP. IDK why you're always so angry or talking about irrelevant players. Vaughn has been ass against RHP. I don't disagree with you. You should at least show the full picture instead of picking and choosing what fits your narrative though.
  4. I mean he should probably just be the DH against LHP at this point. Mercedes has options. He's not going to figure it out playing sparingly in the MLB and he shouldn't be playing every day.
  5. Who is arguing that Burger/Sheets aren't on the 40?
  6. He's been playing in W-S since Saturday. Finally had a game yesterday
  7. Anderson runs until he sees the infield make the throw. Given the status of the teams hamstrings I am okay with that.
  8. What's his BABIP against RHP? If you send Vaughn to AAA, what is our lineup against LHP?
  9. I don't think the Sox would put themselves in a position where if Grandal/Collins got hurt they would have to add Nate Nolan or Carlos Perez to the 40 and active roster. This is entirely my own thought, but I really think the Sox might move Hamilton to the 60 day whether the severity of his injury requires it or not. I called that he would have a setback (I know everybody is having them) but I think it's more of a roster crunch than anything. Hamilton is a leader and basically a coach. If they push him off the 40 with a 60 day IL, they can reevaluate the roster after the deadline moves a depth piece or two and/or another injury or two adds others to the 60 day. I really hope Engel isn't moved to the 60.
  10. Burger has obviously done a lot more against lefties but he has also done more of his damage on the road which is nice.
  11. The biggest issue here may be 40 man spots. Whenever Fry returns from his "rehab assignment" he will have to be taken off the 60 day IL and someone would have to be taken off the 40 for him. So who do they have to drop? Pitchers Tyler Johnson is on the 40. He'll be 26 in August. Has been hurt and bad this year. Lambert is on the 40. Possible trade piece. Otherwise depth. Not likely to be dropped from the 40 IMO. Lopez - He's been so bad. McRae - He's probably the most likely to go IMO but the Sox have given him some looks so it seems they like him some what. Bats They can't cut a catcher because they only have 3. Infielders - Every one is on the active roster except for Sheets/Burger. Outfielders Adolfo is either going to be on the Sox next year or another organization. He's been showing the power (while striking out a ton) in AA so I wouldn't think they release him but the spot has to come from somewhere. Rutherford has been struggling and it's coming time to give up. Hamilton - I wonder if they get a handshake deal with him to transfer him to the 60 day IL even if he's not that injured so they can buy some time on the 40 until they trade one someone (or multiple players) off the 40. Engel - I really hope they don't have to transfer him to the 60 day IL but it's possible.
  12. Stop applying reason and logic. The Rays are mean and jerks. They should have gone the unprecedented route with Franco and pulled up the teenage position player from A ball. They didn't do that so they are SeRVicE tiME mAnIpULaTorS.
  13. Who was speaking in favor of service time manipulation? Exactly. Except he played in A ball in 2019. The point is and always was there was no manipulation or need for trashing the Rays last year. People who don't understand the nuance of this are recycling rhetoric they've seen others apply to different teams/players with different circumstances. People just want to be on the "right side" and defend the player regardless if the facts and circumstances support that argument. For instance, if someone said "Yolequi Cespedes should get called up this week" and someone responded "he's not ready, he's never played above AA" the person saying that he isn't in favor of service time manipulation. You would have to be pretty dense to come to that conclusion based on limited information.
  14. You'd have no idea Hendriks went 1-2-3 from reading this thread. Winner!
  15. Gio is perhaps the most prominent change-up pitcher in the game. Increasing spin on change-up isn't typically the route to having success with the pitch (Devin Williams a key exception). You want to minimize spin on a change up to maximize fade. So I would agree Gio should be okay through all this even though he was pretty clearly using substance.
  16. Moncada dropped his initial agent (Hastings) that signed his initial deal with Boston and got him to the states.. Hastings wouldn't have agreed to the extension Moncada signed. That said, I don't think there is any evidence that Moncada fired his agent because of an extension agreement specifically. I could be wrong but I've never seen/heard of that evidence.
  17. Funny? I definitely don't need to continue on with you changing your argument and the scope of the conversation because you can't accept being wrong but just in case any young kids are reading I would hate for them to be misled by the pervasive confidence you apply to your opinions on here whether you actually have an idea of what you're talking about or not. Just aiming for accuracy here. Have a good one.
  18. Engel had an unsustainably high BABIP against RHP in 2020. It was a tiny sample. There was no reason to believe Engel can hit RHP in the MLB coming into this season because he never has before. It does really seem he's honing in on his power potential and he's really a special athlete in terms of speed/strength. I thought Engel should be getting more at bats given the power he's shown, the defense he provides and the fact that he was the only outfielder on the active roster that was supposed to make the Opening Day roster as an outfielder. Things change when you lose your starting outfield and the alternative is Leury/Goodwin. His power was very encouraging though. Hope we get him back healthy soon.
  19. You were calling the Rays names for not calling up a teenager who never played above A ball in a COVID season where he wasn’t even getting game time. There is no argument from me that Franco isnt good and doesn’t belong in the MLB. You can move goal posts however you like to convince yourself you have an understanding of what is appropriate/inappropriate re: the service time dilemma in MLB but your inaccurate posts are still there.
  20. My point is there was no precedent for a player like him to be called up last year. You were calling the rays a bunch of names for not calling him up but if they did they would be doing something unprecedented. The correct move was to start Franco in the minors this year. He hasn’t played affiliated ball since 2019 and has never played above a-ball. After that, there are multiple arguments that can be made.
  21. You have to imagine someone was calling that ball right? Like what the fuck
  22. Your argument was he should have been in the MLB last season when he was a teenager who had never played a game above A ball. I know you're very confident in your argument because you've seen others use it effectively in reference to other players with different circumstances. However, it doesn't apply to a teenager who has never played above A ball and wasn't even playing affiliated ball because of COVID last year. If a given team wants to call that kid up, so be it, that's their right. If they don't call that teen up from A-ball, they are not penny-pinching, service-time manipulating meanies. There is more nuance here than you're picking up and there is no precedent for a teenaged position player having such a path to the majors.
  23. That is the post above. Ron is agreeing with Jimmy that choosing to play Collins against lefties instead of Grandal is suboptimal. I think you're aware that Jimmy and Ron are aware of the injuries the Sox have had.
  24. You're saying there is zero reason he wasn't on the roster last year when he was 19 and played ~50 games in A+ in his career. You're just wrong. Not sure what brought you to the brazenly false opinion or what makes you think you know better than maybe the best run organization in baseball but I'll trust the Rays approach.
  25. Trust that Tony has been telling Reinsdorf they need to acquire reinforcements for a while now. Sox will make moves by 7/30. At least one bat and a reliever. Hopefully the Sox take on some money to ease the return.
