  1. Sox really don't need to have urgency. These next four with the Astros are big of course. After that, the Sox schedule leading up the ASB is 18 games against awful teams (current winning percentage rank in parenthesis). 2 @ PIT (28th) 3 vs. SEA (18th) 4 vs. MIN (26th) 3 @ DET (23rd) 3 @ MIN (26th) 3 @ BAL (29th) Meanwhile Cleveland's July is 4 vs. Houston 3 @ Tampa 4 vs. KC 3 @ Oakland 3 @ Houston 4 vs. Tampa 2 vs. STL Then they come to Chicago last weekend of July. If the Sox handle their business, they should be several games up on Cleveland going into the All Star Break. The Indians will have their ace, #3 starter, catcher on the shelf. Their #5 starter has already been a disaster before Pleasac/Bieber injuries. JMO, but I get the feeling these substance bans are going to have a particular effect on Cleveland. Cleveland has the lowest payroll in baseball. They have Jose Ramirez under control for 2 years after this year through team options. They also have Eddie Rosario, Bryan Shaw, Cesar Hernandez and Roberto Perez as either free agents or guys under control in 2022 only if CLE flexes the club option. If you know anything about the Indians owner, you know that he wouldn't hate it if the Sox tore through their schedule and the Indians got swept the through the first week of July. He can then cash in on Ramirez for a significant package and sell off their other expiring contracts and potentially getting something for them instead of letting their value expire with an ~85-86 win team with very limited upside. Sox should be able to walk through the next 5 weeks and find themselves in a better position than they are today. The type of players that Sox are going to acquire are still going to be available in the July 20's and up to the deadline. Sox best move right now is 100% to hang tight and see where they are at. See what Mendick can do. Call up Fry. See if Burr/Ruiz can continue to get guys out. See if Heuer/Foster have their bad luck turn around. See how Eloy/Robert recover. See if any other key players get hurt. Sox are sitting pretty right now. Urgency would be a bad thing.
  2. I don't disagree. Based off yesterday though, TLR basically said they're still babying Engel. He can't play day-after-night as of now. For me, he starts every single game against lefties. Every other game against righties or something like that is probably the best course. OF vs. RHP - Should be 3 of Vaughn/Engel/Lamb/Goodwin. If Eaton can get healthy and return to April form he obviously can quickly get a place there. No more Leury/Mendick in the outfield against RHP with our current roster construction. If Engel can basically play everyday in July I would like this lineup: SS - Anderson RF - Goodwin/Lamb 3B - Moncada 1B/DH - Abreu C/1B/DH - Grandal DH/C - Lamb/Collins LF - Vaughn/Lamb CF - Engel/Goodwin 2B - Mendick/Garcia To me, you pencil in Anderson, Moncada, Abreu and Grandal in the 1, 3, 4 & 5 spots. Grandal should be in the lineup everyday without Eloy. Whether that be catching, 1B or DH. For now, I think you play Lamb against RHP everyday and Mendick should have 2B 5/6 games of 7. Main point - less Leury and Mercedes and more Lamb and Collins. OF vs. LHP - Vaughn and Engel in LF and CF in permanent marker. RF is a crap shoot. Leury might be our best option for the time being.
  3. Yermin would have to clear waivers to get to AAA.
  4. Escobar and Frazier could provide similar amounts of value over the rest of 2021 but provide it in different ways. I would agree with @ChiSox59 's sentiment that the difference between the two isn't as significant as Frazier's 2021 would imply. I do prefer Frazier with his ability to play the OF though. Either way, the acquisition cost is just as much as a consideration as what they actually add and in this case, Frazier blows Escobar away. -Control - Frazier has 2022 in addition to the rest of this year. You'll have to pay for that. -Money - Escobar's owed a prorated $7.5M. Frazier only $4.3M. -Recency Bias - Frazier leads the NL in hits and doubles for the team with the league's lowest performing position player group (team collective WAR). He's hitting .331 currently. -Age - While Escobar is on the wrong side of thirty at 32, Frazier is in his age 29 season and having the best year of his career so far. I just don't know that the Sox are going to be willing to pay what it takes to trade for Frazier. I doubt they'd move Crochet for him. As far as prospects go, there's a big drop off after that and a whole lot of question marks after that. Looking past the 2021 season you may not want to deplete the farm in 2021 when you can get a capable vet with similar production but not an ideal pick up just by absorbing all of their money and sending one kind of interesting prospect in return.
  5. Why would Cherrington care about the perceived need of the other team? Frazier has multiple suitors. If Cherrington has his price met, he will take his favorite offer in return. Whether the receiving team is going to hit Frazier #3 or have him as a bench piece isn't really relevant. The team who offers the best package will get the guy. With that said, I find it more likely the Sox acquire a rental given the extent of the need and the acquisition cost being lesser.
  6. Mercedes needs to lose his automatic entry into the lineup. Lamb needs to play everyday against righties. Collins needs to get more consistent ABs. vs. RHP R SS Anderson L CF Goodwin S 3B Moncada R 1B/DH Abreu S C/1B/DH Grandal L DH/RF Lamb R LF Vaughn L RF/DH Eaton/Collins R 2B Mendick vs. LHP R SS Anderson R DH Mercedes S 3B Moncada R 1B Abreu S C Grandal R LF Vaughn R CF Engel S RF Garcia R 2B Mendick
  7. Leury is guaranteed $3.5M. Unless they're going to decide to leave him off a playoff roster, he's not getting cut until then.
  8. I wasn't disputing that and didn't "pull" any rates. The point is of the relationship between labor participation rate and unemployment rate.
  9. This is all due to the way that unemployment is calculated. It changed during Obama's administration and unemployment is understated ever since. Trump's record low unemployment shit was a farce as a result.
  10. Probably true but it makes it so easy to laugh at the headline given Bruce's name is next to it.
  11. Not sure why quoted me
  12. I don't want to see a combination including Leury either. I don't want to brush my teeth when Im falling asleep at midnight. That doesn't mean it's not what's best. The important thing is our pitching is carrying us and Cleveland could conceivably sell. With their awful ownership they could be 3-4 games back and sell J-Ram. Point being, we shouldn't do anything rash.
  13. Sucks to buy high but he's only under control for this year and next so Pittsburgh should be encouraged to move him.
  14. I understand people's skepticism but at least with Eloy, his injury recovery is pretty straightforward. Barring a setback he should be playing baseball in August. Not sure how much Kelley is going to be valued. Not only is he getting shelled out there he got shut down with forearm tightness/soreness.
  15. I don't think the Sox should make any moves until right up to the deadline unless a long-term target is acquired or Madrigal's injury is season ending.
  16. You need a workers permit and parental permission at 14/15. Why would people want to work for minimum wage when the government will pay them more to do nothing? As soon as the government cuts all the unnecessary unemployment/COVID benefits people will have to go to work. These fast food jobs are the lowest rung so this is to be expected to some extent. What's scary is the manufacturing/wholesale industries are having trouble filling warehouse/factory jobs that pay more than 2x minimum wage.
  17. He was a 6 digit bonus sign that the Sox weren't expected to be able to sign in the 2019 draft.
  18. Diamondbacks -RHP Joakim Sora -INF Eduardo Escobar -INF Asdrubal Cabrera -OF David Perlata Orioles -RHP Cole Sulser -INF Freddy Galvis -OF Anthony Santander Rangers -INF Brock Holt -OF Joey Gallo Pirates -RHP Kyle Crick -RHP Chris Stratton -INF/OF Adam Frazier -OF Bryan Reynolds Rockies -RHP Daniel Bard -RHP Mychal Givens -INF Ryan McMahon Tigers -2B Jonathan Schoop -OF Robbie Grossman Marlins -RHP Dylan Floro -OF Starling Marte Nationals -RHP Daniel Hudson That's the bottom 8 teams (excluding Minnesota). Washington currently has the 22nd best record at 25-33. Phili is 21st at 29-31. So obviously there will be more sellers over the next 6-7 weeks.
  19. Sox have been selling the tickets and assigning season ticket holders to seats on a homestand basis. The Sox already handled this homestand by the time the city/state gave the okay on 100% capacity.
  20. He was assigned to BHam and immediately put on the IL at the start of the MiLB season.
  21. Yeah people love to act like Bauer's been got. He begged the MLB to police this stuff. Talked specifically about the differences certain substances could make based on his experiments. Still nothing from MLB. Then he started doing what many others are doing and his spin rates increased exactly how much he said they could. Now he's not denying his own use (as opposed to whatever drivel is coming out of Cole's mouth) and holding the same opinion he's always had. TLDR, Bauer brought the issue to light, the MLB ignored him, Bauer took that as his green light and Bauer won the Cy Young and a $100 million contract. The joke is not on Trevor Bauer who has been transparent and informative through all of this.

    Student Loan Debt

If the loans weren't guaranteed than the schools train of unlimited money would stop. They can direct the "naïve and foolish" (otherwise known as the youth in this country) to continue borrowing as before all they want, but the access to debt will not be there. The problem is people will say "you can't restrict education to certain segments of the population." Apparently the way to combat that is government guaranteed loans where everybody but academia gets screwed over and we have hundreds of thousands of young Americans with useless degrees and exorbitant debt. The government needs to stop the federal guarantees and the state governments (looking at you Illinois) need to do better in offering their in-state applicants affordable school. It makes no sense that a kid in Florida has multiple, in-state, affordable options for school where in Illinois kids are paying 3x+ what their peers in Florida are paying for in-state tuition.
