Cole to the Yankees: 9 years, $324 million.
raBBit replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think he'll cost less than Machado/Harper and the Sox were in on both guys there. The only money spent since then is Grandal and Eloy/Abreu extensions. Sox would just never want the media be aware of their interest even if it's just getting an understanding of what it's going to cost. -

Sox will get neither, but they will be the "mystery team" for Rendon, not Cole. -
SoxVan: White Sox big push might be year away
raBBit replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This article is from last night to be clear. DVS got quotes from some scout that supported the idea that the Sox are not yet ready to compete in 2020 and are better suited to compete in 2021/2022. DVS then twisted and contorted Hahn's annual WM GM Speak quotes from yesterday to support that idea. The headline was click bait as well. -
The media has to do their job.

ha, thanks Cali

I am not going to breaking any moves. Not only is that incredibly difficult and I have only rarely had the information to do so, but I share what I can because I am annoyed by the flippant Sox fans who make up the loud minority. They're so flippant and whatever the Sox do is just the worst case scenario no matter what. And I get, we have sucked historically. It's just tired and old and affecting people's ability to reason. Hahn got up and did a bunch of GM speak last night. Implying 2021 is the year and they have no urgency this week. He's just bullshitting. They're not going to make moves for the sake of making moves but they're working to get better on multiple fronts.

I think that's a fair assumption though. I mean It is Theo's league.

He doesn't.

Your worth has nothing to do with paying more than you have to. Based on your argument Lerner could buy a stock for $5 more than its trading price and its okay because he's rich.
-
That's true and I rooted for the Nats this year with that in mind. That said, Lerner got absolutely wrecked on both Strasburg deals.

Sox in on Marcell Ozuna? I mean, maybe. Or not.

No just making a Ferris Buehler reference. I have no ill will towards Castillo or Gomez for that matter. IDK anything about Castillo but Gomez seems like a good dude for whatever that is worth. -
If you all think Boras and the Nationals striking a deal is going to be a boon for the players market you haven't been paying attention the last few years. Somehow Lerner still considers Boras a friend even though Boras takes him for an expensive ride on an annual basis.

Sox weren't played by Wheeler's camp. He and his agent are class people. Ultimately the man made a decision to forgo what is really just a few million of take home earnings for family reasons. Machado's agent was a scumbag lying and deceiving the Sox. Sox are at fault for not being able temper their expectations with that in mind.

I guess we're just looking at this differently because you knew the contracts that Ryu/Bumgarner/Keuchel are getting and I don't. You also know that Ryu/Bumgarner/Keuchel (players the Sox could still conceivably get) are the next Shields and Strasburg/Cole (players the Sox won't get) are going to be healthy for three years and worth the million dollar a start (if they stay healthy for several years) price tag. It's almost like any scenario you address ends in the Sox being doomed.

Did you quote the wrong post? I wasn't being critical. -
Since when do you care about being fiscally responsible?

There are 30 teams in the league yet people think we should get every player we target. Sox handled the Machado situation very poorly. They got played and drummed up way to much excitement before the eggs hatched. The rest of their offseason targets and execution were all terrible. We have been absent in the LatAm since Robert. Past those items, the rebuild has been handled very well and we are positioned to be a force in the future if they augment the team well these next few years.

Looks like there's interest baked in to account for inflation/time value of money. So $245M is true value

I am not making the comment based off of any inside information. I made the comment as a result of your penchant to overreact and to flippantly assess situations based off of emotion and an overwhelming feeling of unending dread. Wheeler was a nut punch. The Sox set the market and still didn't get him. They signed the best fit on the market in Grandal. They're still working on multiple fronts. They will make additional moves and they will address the majority of the team's holes if not all of them. Let the process play out. I remember years ago when people were calling for Hahn's head when there was no movement with the team on Monday night of the WM. Then they traded Sale and Eaton in consecutive days for a Cy Young Finalist, 5 WAR stud, a top 30 prospect, another top ten prospect, Lopez and Basabe. Relax. Let it play out. Even if you think owners are rich and should just give good players blank checks with no consideration of the risk of a contract of this magnitude we were never signing Strasburg.

I would like it if we could apply google analytics to the site to see the uses of the word "bluster" over the past month in comparison to the rest of the site's history. You would think we signed a Bluster to be our #2 starter. -

I heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Frank Castillo pass out at 31 flavors last night. -
Someone bookmark this one.

Such a bad and lazy take. -
Speak for yourself. I want the team to be prudent. I want to win as many games as possibles for as long as a period of possible. Madrigal wins the team a lot more games with 162 games in 2027 than he does with 13 games in 2020.

Bumgarners agent is working his hardest. I hope the Twins give him everything he wants.
