And on top of that, the MLB doesn't enforce the rules they have on the books. It's amazing the current system has lasted as long as it has.
-
Why don't Americans get afforded the same flexibility then? In what other major sports league can a player just go wherever they want? Just international soccer I think (if it's even the case with the EPL, I believe it is).
-
What revenue leaks are you talking about? If both sides could just meet in the middle? Media campaign against the MLBPA? What world are you living in. Those numbers are bullshit. No need to talk about them. There are two teams that report their revenue and one of them isn't even an American business and their baseball segment revenue is completely unclear.

Yesterday's fake deadline was delayed to today's fake deadline.

Did I miss a deal?

Bowden released a piece of 7 players who should sign quick and 7 who should take some time. Rodon was said to sign quick. Both Castellanos and Conforto were listed as players that should take more time. Bowden listed the Sox first for both players in terms of possible landing spots.

Players are just using it as a chip. They really don't care they just want to act like they care about the draft. CBT, bonus pool, minimum salary are much bigger priorities. The MLBPA has typically had no issue bargaining away the rights of the players that are not yet in the union.
-
Don't have to be accurate. People will share it if it supports their narrative. Whole lot of financial misinformation with this.
-
Well you shared his fake news so I figured you might have known. It's Forbes. So that is completely worthless.

Are you defending ManClown?

Where is this private financial information being sourced from and why didn’t they include 2020?

Most people are pro-MLBPA. Increasing the CBT or decreasing the penalties of surpassing the CBT helps the following groups: 1) highest spending franchises 2) players. It hurts the the cheaper owners as you said. Manfred needs 23 votes from the owners to get anything passed so it seems that the owners trying to keep spending down are outnumbered. This is also a core issue for the MLBPA so if the owners want a deal they have to get closer to the MLBPA's ask. International draft is on the table btw per Drellich. Owners want it because it would slash costs of scouting, facilities, travel, etc. Players probably don't care in all likelihood as they have never shown concern for future union members but will and should use it as a negotiating chip with the owners to get something in return.
-
Sure but that's Manfred's job to get the owners together and figure it out. And frankly, if I were one of the cheap owners I would hold out too given the unions bargaining over the last several years. That dunce Tony Clark complains about this and that in between negotiations but when push comes to shove does nothing about the issues he highlights. He hasn't done anything positive for the players in years if ever.
-
Putting the players "winning" this negotiation aside, why are you so against capping spending and making a more level playing field? I know the Sox have spent last year and would continue to have a higher than average payroll moving forward in a normal scenario but they have acted like a small market team for the last decade basically. I don't want the Yankees spending 100 million more than us. Obviously we both would want a payroll floor but that's not happening but capping spending so the Yankees and Dodgers can't dominate everyone in player acquisitions on the free market is something I, and I would imagine you, would want.
-
Yup. Last thing I want is the season cancelled or delayed. I know some dumb people think that's what the owners want but obviously there is nothing behind that.
-
Being a millionaire =/= you make a million a year in salary. I agree that the minimum should be raised but that's a separate point. Guys on the Sox 26-man that make under $1 a year: -Cease - 1.5 million signing bonus at 18 -Kopech - 1.6 million signing bonus at 18 -Collins - 3.3 million signing bonus at 21 -Crochet - 4.5 million signing bonus at 21 -Vaughn - 7.2 million signing bonus at 21 -Sheets - 2 million signing bonus at 21 Then you have Ruiz, Burr, Lopez, Romy Gonzalez and Engel who never got 7 digit bonuses. Plus guys on the 40 man that have made 7 digit bonuses in Rutherford, Burger, Adolfo, etc. So less than 20% of the Sox active roster is players that haven't had a 7 digit payday.
-
I sure don't. This is millionaires vs. billionaires after all. Every other league has a cap. The luxury tax for the players is a better scenario than a hard cap.
-
I am confused - what does that video have to do with a potential NBA lockout in 2024?
-
I think you're being sarcastic but union players are not allowed at team facilities during the lockout. Owners should definitely be making the facilities available for the minor leaguers/non-40 man guys.

Fathoming Bauer not securing a job anywhere?

This is true so it is a little weird that people are still speaking on this so assuredly. I don't understand how Bauer didn't refute her claims at the start of all this. He just said everything was consensual. Once the judge ruled, Bauer denied specific, heinous accusations the alleged victim had made. It is he-said-she-said, but the court and judge ruled that the alleged victim "materially misled" the court with her testimony. Additionally, the court rule that she "deliberately and systematically deleted" phone records. So discovery in this case led to judge and the court ruling that the woman was misleading the courts and deleting evidence. It's really hard to see how there is standing for Bauer to get a suspension for this. That said, it should be interesting to see how the MLB navigates this. They definitely want to put the hammed down on Bauer. They definitely want to blackball him if possible. I just hope this stuff wraps up sooner than later. Just want baseball sans the drama. -
I agree. There should only be threads about players that the Sox are rumored to be interested and also acquire.

I figure you are speaking to the offseason but he's quite literally played himself into some money with the structure of his contract with the Rams. https://fansided.com/2021/11/11/rams-odell-beckham-jr-contract-details-revealed/

C That's after carjackings were up over 100% from 2019-2020. But yeah, not a Chicago problem. https://www.fox32chicago.com/news/carjackings-more-than-double-in-2020
