Facebook, Twitter purge more independent media accounts

1.) I never said you were wrong. I said I pity the day I can say I told you so. But if you think these social media giants aren't working with the government behind the scenes than you are wrong. You didn't specifically say that though. Regardless, there's no bait here. I am giving my opinion. Try not to look at everything as if it is personal because it certainly isn't. 2.) That's not accurate. 3.) This is the distinction we have disconnect on. You think the government shouldn't regulate what is okay - I agree with that. The problem is these companies are already in cahoots with the government. They are all tools of the intelligence apparatus. I would rather they be classified as government entities so they don't have the protections of private institutions. Right now they are influenced by the government and used as pawns but can act like they're acting in their own private interests. It's a ruse. Call it what it is so Americans can have the protections necessary for freedom of speech. 4.) This blends in with 3. Once these social media companies finish getting rid of the libertarians, the anti-media, the conspiracy theorists and other fringe groups, all we will have left is moderates, democrats, progressives and leftists. At that point, they will begin to attack the dissident left. I fear the day but perhaps then you will be able to digest what I am speaking to. First they came for the conspiracy theorists, you are not a conspiracy theorist so you didn't speak out. Then they came for the independent media, you are not the independent media so you didn't speak out. Then they came for the libertarians, you are not a libertarian so you didn't speak out. Next they'll come for the dissident left and there will be no one to speak out for them. -

The italicized is a nice touch of civility to open up a respectful conversation, lol. They're all in cahoots as it is. I would rather have these media giants aligned with the government in plain sight as opposed to having their business relationships take place behind the scenes. To the bolded - government entities are already regulating what is okay to say they're just doing it through the guise of private companies from Silicon Valley - Google/YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. Reddit is doing it as well but they're obviously not as influential. They have all acted together at different points. It is entirely coordinated. That's not a coincidence. It's not like your billionaires at the top of these companies all of a sudden thought "fake news" was bad at the same time. -

You didn't bold anything but regardless, thank you for understanding the difference. -

No one is arguing otherwise. Bad people operate within the law all the time. -

Your view is entirely biased. I speak out for the little guys and you're asking why I don't also speak out for the reprehensible mainstream media corporations. I am not speaking out for them because they are a bane of society. I am not speaking out for them because they are not being attacked. In fact, they are benefiting from this. So aside from them being the beneficiaries from this, they are irrelevant, so why bring them up? I understand they are private companies. I am interested in the idea of making them public utilities. Given the way technology has changed I think the efforts to protect freedom of speech have to change as well. I understand private business rights and I am in favor of them. There is an issue when the private companies that have become mediums for spreading information have stifled free thought and alternative media because the same people being targeted don't have a medium in place to talk about their inequity. My bias is that I believe in freedom of speech and think it is important. So if that's seeping out of my posts I am making my point. I care if they are from one radical town in California. You might be okay with a few billionaires working with the intelligence agencies shaping the way Americans think and eliminating alternative opinions. I am not okay with that. I am enjoying watching Facebook die. They asked me to take pictures of my home last month. They are a sick, invasive company and a major force in the fight to end all privacy for Americans. Time will tell who was right to defend these few consolidating corporations who are attacking free thought and eliminating personal privacy and who was right to speak out against what is happening underneath our nose. I pity the day where Ill be able to say I told you so. -

Why do these items register to you as mutually exclusive? When you look at it from a biased lens you may see it that way but there are no rules to if you support one group you need to equally support other group. Nobody is working to ruin the mainstream media's platform. We do, however, have multiple tech giants from one extremist corner of California making coordinated, significant efforts to thwart independent media and prop up mainstream media. Besides, there's no shortage of people defending the corporate, mainstream media because they are anti-Trump. You can defend the billion dollar corporations who do their work for intelligence agencies, influence and ad rev. They do need a lot of defending after their horrific track record and their place in rationalizing and supporting endless American military conflicts and government coups that have resulted in the millions of civilian deaths and the loss of any stability in the Middle East. I'll defend the little guys working for nothing more than their fire for journalism and justice who can't afford much of anything and have lost their platforms to defend themselves. The people who you know, actually question the government narrative and speak on the issues that the corporate media won't touch due to cowardice and advertisers. -
What are you even talking about? The Federal debt did blow up under Obama? EDIT: Before you respond with your partisan stuff, it blew up under Bush too and will continue to blow up under Trump. Believing one fact doesn't permit one from believing other facts.

I hope Trump comes out in support of FB and Twitter's actions. Maybe that way the public will be willing to fight for the freedom of speech and the protection of media. -

Both Twitter and Facebook have been booting independent media sites from their platforms in groups. It is coordinated as the sites have been doing it on the same day. I only knew the Free Thought Project from those sites and they weren't anything that needed to be banned. This guise of "fake news" is a ploy to eliminate any dissent of the mainstream media. We're going to end up in a situation where a significant world changing news event (economy collapse, riots, attack, etc.) happens and the only information for public consumption will be large corporate media companies in cahoots with the government. -

I don’t know perhaps you could make a list... -
Look at interest rates historically. The federal fund rates had been kept under 1% for 10 years ending at the end of last year. Before '08 we hadn't had the rate under 1% since 1954. We are a debtor nation with an economy built on free money. While some will say Trump's administration's monetary policy is too aggressive given the recent market performance, in reality, the current rates are nowhere near historical average. The entire economy has been propped up by these rate decreases over the last ten year. As soon as the Fed pulls the carpet out from underneath it'll get scary quickly.

Another poster come and gone due to filibuster. Shame. Hope to see you back again for what should be exciting offseason wrathofhahn!
-
But it is expected to happen tomorrow? Is there a deadline before it becomes a hung jury?
-
That is my summation of the last couple pages of this thread. Do you guys think that you did anything to change wrathofhahn's opinion? Do you think this board expressed tolerance to differing opinions? Ill hang up and listen.

What time is verdict on this? I am going to be at a CPS high school on the south side tomorrow. My work says we have to download some app and confirm our safety.

What exactly does this stat measure?

Due process is the principle that the government must respect all of the legal rights that are owed to a person according to the law.

Constellation Brands put a $4 billion stake in Canopy Growth ($CGC). The stock went up at least 25% upon the news. Cronos Group and Tilray then followed with huge appreciation in a short period of time. I put a small chunk in Cronos ($500-$1000) because I wanted to ride the weed wave and Cronos has good management. I made over 40% in less than two weeks and got stopped out yesterday. It seems like Cronos and Canopy are in the midst of a significant correction. Tilray has been incredible though. It IPO'd at 22 in July and was trading over $124 this afternoon. Some people made 5x returns in a couple months. I imagine a lot of people getting in now will end up losing a good chuck of money. This is a company valued at over $11 billion with revenues under $21 million in 2017. It's just an obscene valuation driven by conjecture, FOMO and some impressive volume.

That's what I figured, ugh. But thanks. Not sure I am trying to go that new for the car because I am just trying to get something durable that will last me 5 years or so. I think you're right on just ripping the bandaid off and trading my car in. Good call. Chicago has some of the most liberal laws for uber cars though so everything in my focus should make it.

Background: I currently drive a 2007 Dodge Charger RT. I bought it in March of 2014 and was hoping to get 6 years out of it. It has 144k of miles on it. I had to pass my emissions test for July and I couldn't get the damn light off. I took it two shops and the computer always read "oil sensor." I had replaced the sensor and the belt related and the light still wouldn't go off. So the guy at my local shop told me I had to take it to the dealer. I take it to the dealer in the middle of July and still haven't picked it up. When I went to pick it up the check engine light was still on and my stick shift unit was entirely taken apart with the cables all over the place. When I asked the dealership guy what the hell happened he basically just kept telling me it wasn't their fault. They said I need some clip for the cables of the shifter. They told me it was be in on August 4th. They have since delayed the item saying it is on back order. I am supposed to get it back in two weeks. They wouldn't give me a courtesy car. They told me how small my business was to them relative to the dealership. Needless to say I am good on Dodge and really American cars. In the meantime, I have been borrowing an extra car my parents have but it's been longer than expected and they are expecting it back sooner than later so I have to figure something out. Problem 1: Selling the Charger. 2007 Dodge Charger RT with a ~144k miles on it. It runs well but seems to have some sort of electric issues with the lights fading a little bit in the center counsel. The inside of the car is in outstanding shape. I took good care of the leather, always kept it clean and there was little back seat use. The body does have some damage on the bumper under driver tail light that got caved in by a 4 foot metal pole. The only other car I have had was a POS and sold for scrap so I am a little unsure on how to go about it. I got the KBB value and all that. Do you guys think I am better off a.) trying to use the car for a trade in credit b.) selling privately (craigslist, other self listing site) or c.) selling to a dealer, carmax, etc. Any resources or experiences would be appreciated. Problem 2: Buying a new car I am embarrassed to say this but the car I am looking at is a Toyota Prius. I've also looked at a Lexus hybrid that was only available for a few years. I am looking for cars with great fuel economy that typically last a long time. Preferably in the 2011-2016 range. I am planning to drive uber on the evenings/weekends of my non-busy season for work. Any resources or tips would be appreciated as far as sites, experiences, rules when buying would be appreciated.
