  1. I’d keep him unless the offer is stupidly in favor of the White Sox. The problem is this-he’s a heavy bodied 31 year old. What are the chances he will sustain and not breakdown or decline in the next five years as the Sox hopefully move into a contention mode? Then what value will he hold for a contending team in say 2021? This won’t be a Konerko situation to keep around when they won’t contend anyway like 2014. The worst part is Jose seems like a quality teammate, leader, and person in general. How could the guy not have some perspective on life and baseball knowing what he went through to even be afforded the opportunity to play for the Sox. It’s too bad he may never be a big piece when the Sox are competitive. He’s almost universally beloved by our fan base and deservedly so.
  2. I’ll have to go back and look at some of the media accounts when they drafted him to see if there were concerns about repeating his delivery. I would hope their scouting would have raised a red flag, or maybe they figured he’s a bright guy, good makeup etc. we can teach him to repeat his delivery, release point etc. Let’s draft him anyway. Not to assign blame, but Fulmer was the last of the Doug Lauman 1st rounders. The next question I guess is how long of a leash does Giolito have if he doesn’t show some consistency?
  3. This is too bad for the organization. I hope the kid can figure it out. His fastball has a lot of life. He just can’t command it, or even throw strikes enough. I also noticed when he is ahead 1-2 or 0-2 he doesn’t have the ability to put the guys away. He’s walked an inordinate amount of batters which he was ahead 0-2; 1-2. Did the Sox change his delivery completely from Vandy?
  4. Delmonicos power has been disappointing, but he puts together some solid at bats
  5. Coops been here a long time I agree, whether he is the root of some of the recent results is probably true, but Samardzjia hasn’t done much since leaving either. Bottom line is this. This is JR team. Coop was a part of 05.I have heard he is also KW and the front offices mole. He never made much money as a marginal big leaguer in the early 80s. I thinks he has incentive to stay as long as his health permits. He like the rest of the KW, RH regime has total job security.
  6. That to me looks like if he has a quality rotation he can produce results, tough to compare this staff to garland, buehrle, Freddy, Contreras. All things just aren’t equal.
  7. Giolito confidence is shot not even focused on holding runners only on hoping he can find his release
  8. Renteria puts on a good face but has to wonder what he did to deserve this. Look at what Aaron Boone took over in his first mlb manager job
  9. Not even paying attention to rizzo only worried about the batter
  10. This is on point when the Sox were in afterglow of 05 from say 2010 and competive for a playoff spot they drew between 2.2 and 2.9 million. They just were never able to sustain. While I’m not going to make claims Chicago is a Sox town etc, a consistent 2.5 million plus during the peak is plausible. I guarantee when the Sox are good again the “fans “will magically appear with new shirts and hats pumping their chests out saying how they were there along even when the Sox started 9-28. We all new the Sox were going to be bad. We never expected them to compete for the playoffs. I don’t recall anybody in the pre season win poll throw up 110-112 losses which at this point is plausible. I think the frustration mostly comes from the seeking regression of Giolito and Fulmer from the end of last season.
  11. sorry I screwed up the initial link subcription required https://theathletic.com/351567/2018/05/11/taking-apart-the-myths-behind-cubs-rebuild-and-what-it-means-for-white-sox/
  12. This a a fabulous article posted in the Athletic. The article highlights the fallacies of the Cubs rebuild and how much luck is involved in winning a team single World Series yet alone multiple is. It is very sobering to think of the heavy lifting still needed by this organization to get the organization where we all want this team to be. There are some excellent quotes from Maddon on developing a culture of winning being important after years of losing, and the importance of veterans in the clubhouse.
  13. I don’t think anyone or even the front office really knows what they have in Davidson yet. The thing is he was so awful in Charlotte in 14-15 it’s clouded all firm assessment. It’s true he might be a late bloomer, the plus power is legitimate and the walk rate has improved. It also seems he is prone to funks and has an overly mechanical swing which falls out of whack and leads to deep slumps. I fear he may have a great year in 18 and revert back in 2019. The last thing needed is for a contending Sox team to count on Davidson in say 20-21 and he lays a season long dud. I’m still skeptical. I think it’s best to go year to year on Matt. He has improved greatly from say 2015, and now may have a regular role in the future, but I just can’t get past his past struggles in assessing his risk going forward.
  14. I’m getting really excited about Collins. I have a feeling he’d be the kind of guy to sign a team friendly extension too.
  15. Yes I haven’t seen this since the Albert Belle signing, and even that was a single outlier, white flag trade about 8 months later, versus what is likely needed now one of the premier guys on the open market plus maybe two more significant market pieces.
  16. I mean Schwarbers Babe Ruth, No way Palka can be that good
