But much more viable if one of Conforto/Benintendi/Gallo/Bellinger are also added. In that scenario, Frazier is only playing the OF everyday for like 3 weeks until Colas arrives. Then he flips to the 2nd base mix / 4th OF. He was awful in 22, but he'd be a solid complementary piece, but an awful main add. I think so, yah though I'd probably add Bellinger to the list. Really hoping they splash for Nimmo, but I know its super unlikely.

Yeah, it needs improvement. But getting Eloy to DH fulltime and AV out of the OF should not be downplayed. It’ll make a huge difference. Need our OF additions to be solid out there.
-
Man, that was hard to watch. Just want to see Robert stay healthy in 2023. His ceiling remains one of the very best players in the game. Sure hope we get to see it at some point.

I’d love that hedge to be Profar. He’d be an awesome fit for this roster. But I’m sure there is a reason the Pads moves him off 2B completely this past season (tho they had plenty of IF options), and that definitely hurts his utility for the Sox. But still think he’d be a great complement to Conforto or Gallo or Benintendi. But to your point…..if $20M is the hard line (I don’t think it is), it’ll be tough to make it fit. Or like our convo the other day, now we’re relying on Cespedes or Payton to contribute. Brandon Drury is another name that if paired with one of LH OFs, I like it a lot more. Wish he at least hit RHP better historically.
-
My guess is JR made them make a token 1/$15M offer and if he accepted they’d have had to deal Eloy or AV.
-
Hate to see it.

Nice. Good to have depth while not taking up a 40 man spot. I am sure we'll see him at some point in 23.
-
I am no big Kelenic fan, but I'd do both those deals in a heartbeat and I am not remotely in a hurry to move either ReyLo or Graveman. Just the upside alone is something that you'd love to bet on.

I don't recall, was the training staff from last season officially let go?

Man, the Sox Twitter montage got to me. Will always love and respect Pito.

2023 MLB offseason signings and rumors thread

Stone Garrett off the board to the Nats. Tough week for Cali. -
If anyone finds a link to Hahn’s media presser today, please do share.
-
Well, that goes against pretty much everything we’ve been told. But yah, I guess I could see a lowball “respect” offer. But Hahn basically said Pito wasn’t coming back multiple times already this offseason.
-
Yeah, it was insanely dumb. I also don't think it happens if our DH masquerading as a LF didn't tear his shoulder out of its socket in a meaningless ST game.
-
He still would have been a rookie in 2023 if they called him up September, though. I think it is "possible" the Sox put him on the OD roster. But it would be another awful roster management decision. We're talking about like 12 games here.
-
Grandal should not DH more like 5x next season. If he's not catching, he should be riding pine. Unless of course he finds his stroke.
-
He's awful back there. The advanced metrics aren't kind to him, but the eye test is even worse. Alfaro is the LAST thing this team needs.
-
Zunino is a FA.

I think you're pretty much stuck with what we got. Hopefully Yaz comes in with his knees healthy and can be productive in a 50/50 timeshare with Seby. Sox catching depth is not really that bad - its probably above average league wide, and Perez is servicible if needed. I don't think there is any chance the Sox just cut Yaz. So if you sign a catcher, you're going to need to trade Seby. I wouldn't be against trying to sell high on Seby and turn him into perhaps a swing man or a backend SP with options, but not sure if other teams will buy into Seby's 2022. You cannot just cut him at this point, and he has no options, and has to have some value when you look at the wasteland that is that catcher position league-wide. The problem is there aren't really any decent catchers to sign. Alfaro and Sanchez are butchers behind the plate and both righties. Hard pass on both. Grandal still murders lefties - even in 2022 - so probably need a LH if you're looking for a logical platoon. Reunion with Narvaez is probably the best option if you go this route. Tucker Barnhart? There just are not great options.
-
Why tho? Were they really willing to back themselves into a corner on AV again? I don't really buy it.
-
An offer to come back for his statue and jersey retirement, sure. To play baseball? I doubt it.
-
Sox already made their decision on Colas. If he was going to be here opening day, he would have been up in September. Its really that simple.
-
Yeah, seems like a great way to conduct business. The numbers clearly show Clev got tired late in the season. Makes sense coming off TJS. Had he continued his trajectory before September and playoffs a 1/$12M deal would have been a pipe dream.

Hard for 1B not to be very high on that list. My Sox history isn’t as long as yours, but I am 32 and the Sox have had a legit 1B my entire life.
