  1. This media member is an absolute idiot if he believes that. The cubs got absolutely scorched in that deal even if Eloy decides he’s done with baseball and retires this offseason. There is no way they’re flaunting that deal and no way Hahn is furious about it.
  2. Twins don’t need a 1b. Both Arraez and Kirilloff need to play there.
  3. Leury still can't get off the bench. Lol. Makes me think there actually maybe is a chance the org moves on from him. He has 1 PA since September 11th lol.
  4. Why? Why not just stash Sheets and Burget in AAA until they're needed? This roster is loaded with injury prone guys. Having slightly better than replacement level players who won't get embarrassed offensively at the big league level is pretty nice to have. Neither Burger nor Sheets are returning anything all that interesting, so just keep them for depth. Them both having options is a huge feather in the Sox cap, IMO. That all said, penciling either of them as even role players on the big league level would be a huge mistake, just like it was this season.
  5. I think if we trade AV, targeting Jazz is ideal. Even if it takes trading one of Sosa/JRod/Ramos in the deal.
  6. I like this plan, and not too dissimilar from mine. I was on the Conforto train hard for 22, so I can't completely nix it now ---- I think he's a solid back up plan. But after watching that charade of an OF defense in 22, I just really feel like they need to target a better OF. If Conforto costs $12M, just choke up the extra $6-8M for Nimmo who is a much better defender. Alot of $ comes off the books after 2023. I am willing to let 2B for fully internal to make the dollars balance. I also think that Wong is a solid name to target, but I don't think he's a very good defender. Love he bats left handed and would take him 100/100 times over Harrison, but I do think if we're going to bring in a 2B, we should target one that both fields his position AND bats left handed.
  7. I don't think it would be smart to sign a guy who has never played 2B before to play 2B everyday, but may as well put him out there for shits and gigs today.
  8. For a team dearth of power, trading the one guy with very real power, while also far from his peak value, seems like questionable decision making at best.
  9. Elvis 2B, AV 3B, Sheets 1B, Perez C, Engel CF, Romy LF, Leury SS, Harrison DH, Payton RF That probably about as goofy as it could get while resting all the regulars.
  10. Cairo was really pushing the bizarre lineup tonight. Hope its as entertaining as he was leading on.
  11. To be honest, you could use the bolded for pretty much every single player on the Sox besides Cease. Hence the Sox predicament...
  12. $9.5-10M range probably. He’s better than anyone they’re getting for that amount on the FA market on a 1 year deal.
  13. He’s not gonna make anywhere close to $14 million
  14. He’s also a dude that’s already bet on himself and he cares deeply about his performance. I personally would expect Gio to bounce back in a major way next season.
  15. If he has minimal TV, why in the world would you trade him when we already have an opening in the rotation? The trade Giolito take continues to make less than no sense.
  16. This. It will really suck. While it’s a no brainer decision, it’s still a bit of a I’ll believe it when I see it situation. Could definitely see Sox bringing back Abreu and trading AV for SP (would prefer a 2B if you go that route) or pretending like Eloy can play LF. I don’t think that’s be an optimal move, but definitely could see the JR override.
  17. Well there is stat called OPS+ and wRC+ that tell you this very thing. They average 114, meaning he’s 14% above average. Those numbers were in the 120s before his recent slump. He’s a very good hitter. He’s also not an OF. He needs to play 1B or DH, and we have a DH who is our best hitter when he’s on the field. Which means AV needs to play 1B.
  18. Perhaps? It’s fully a product of playing the OF. He’s a well above average hitter even with the cold streak the last few weeks.
  19. Sheets and the soon to be FA 36 year old.
  20. I disagree that it’s not logical to let him walk. What’s not logical is paying Jose Abreu 50% if the money we have to spend on the 2023 roster and continuing to act like this roster as contracted is one that can compete without major improvements to defense and lineup balance. Retaining Jose makes that improvement nearly impossible without a major increase to payroll, which we all know isn’t happening.
  21. I don’t think he’s the best player nor was he much of a leader this year. If you can’t see that Abreu causes this roster major issues, I don’t know what to tell you. I love Jose. It’s nothing against him. AV is 10 years younger, cheaper and needs to play 1B. Sox need to invest Abreu $ in an actual corner OF that bats left handed. It’s pretty simple, really.
  22. Jettisoning Abreu doesn’t create a hole. It solves a major problem.
