  1. JBJ has an $8M buyout on a $12M mutual option for 2023 that I wasn’t aware of. There is a 0% chance he gets claimed and he’ll likely be a FA in a few days. But yeah, he’s bad. But so is Engel. I like Adam but he’s been pretty terrible this year - isn’t hitting lefties like he used to and IMO his defense has regressed since the leg injuries. But I certainly wouldn’t get rid of him if he’s not optionable.
  2. Can JBJ still go get it in the OF? Getting DFAd today. He may be a better roster fit than Engel at this point. Engel Should be close to five years of service time, but if under it should still be able to be optioned. Problem is Bradley is still due around 4 million rest of season, which is probably far too much.
  3. Takes two to tango. My guess is no GMs were willing to hand Hahn a difference maker, even on an expiring deal, for anyone outside the Sox top 5-6 prospects. If he wasn’t willing to Montgomery or Colas unless elite talent was coming back (right call), or the next tier of Vera, Sosa, Ramos and Rodriguez for rentals then frankly we had very little to offer. It’s been an awful 12 months for Hahn and I think he should be fired. But I’m glad we didn’t see him overpay for marginal upgrades at the deadline. This team is still plenty good to win the division, and probably isn’t good enough to advance past the ALDS without major good fortune regardless of a player or two. We certainly need the GM, whether it’s Hahn (likely) or his replacement to figure out how to get this team more athletic, better defensively and more left handed this winter. Pains to say it cause he’s a stud, but trading AV is likely the best path forward.
  4. Mods, can we make a Padres sub forum for Caulfied to talk to himself please?
  5. Hope we get to see Perez in September. He’s earned it.
  6. Well they used one of those five on Burger yesterday, so yeah...I don't think that was a consideration and i doubt they're concerned about brining Haseley up and down 3 or more times the rest of the season. Ultimately, its not really worth getting worked up about, but plaything shorthanded for no reason is dumb. That said, I think there may be something to the thought that the FO just wants to keep these guys away from TLR so he doesn't play them.
  7. That's not how options work. They're used once per year. Haseley and Burger have already been optioned. In fact, Burger was optioned yesterday. I literally think its as simple as Robert is close and was actually in the clubhouse, as oppose to having to fly Burger or Haseley to Chicago for 2 games they're highly unlikely to appear in.
  8. That doesn't stop them from bringing Burger or Haseley up instead and them optioning them back when Robert is actually ready. But yeah, its not really worth getting up in arms about but Sox continue to manage their roster in incredibility stupid ways.
  9. I mean, he's gotta be close. They wouldn't have activated him otherwise. I feel much better about Robert since he was activated than I did prior. At least we know he's not dying.
  10. Where he was drafted is irrelevant at this point. The Sox cannot continue to roster all three of Eloy, Vaughn and Abreu. If that isn't clear, you haven't paid much attention lately. I am not just suggesting flipping AV for any old middle infielder. Vaughn is valuable and I would expect the return to be also be valuable, but just better fits the roster. *This all assumes Abreu isn't going anywhere*
  11. I think its just more likely that Hahn didn't want to give up any of Montgomery, Colas, Vera, Rodriguez or Ramos for 10 weeks of a player. Frankly, I don't disagree with him. You can't force teams to trade you useful players for shitty players, like a select few posters here constantly seem to think is realistic.
  12. Yeah, my other priority is solving the Abreu/AV/Eloy problem. I am holding Eloy for now and I too think Abreu is going nowhere. So I’m likely looking to move AV this offseason if/when Abreu re-signs. This team badly needs to get more athletic, better defensively in the OF and more left handed. Flipping AV for a LH middle infielder that can field his position and has similar control seems like a good fit.
  13. We should shoot a bit higher. Brantley would be a fine fallback option, but he's getting old and isn't a good outfielder. Brandon Nimmo should be priority number 1, 2, 3 and 4.
  14. While this comment is in no way an endorsement of TLR - he's literally awful and a huge impediment for this club - we've already been told by Hahn that Robert is going to get plenty of rest the next couple weeks. So we should all try to avoid the lineup meltdown when it does happen. SSS for sure, but I thought Pollock played a fine CF filling in the last week or two. Definitely punts defense (something we've become accustomed to), but its nice to be able to keep Pollock in the lineup when Robert sits without having to remove one of Eloy/AV.
  15. With no move in RF, I expect to see Colas emerge in the next few weeks. And honestly, that's better that starting him with the big club next year...if you're going to do that, call him up soon. Otherwise do the smart thing and wait until May 2023. Sox always seem to make the shortsighted decision there, or try to extend.
  16. We think Tony awake enough to let Banks finish this one, or he gonna burn useless reliever innings per usual?
  17. I will be rooting for him in LA. Seems like a good dude.
  18. How long until Colas is in RF? I’m thinking without an addition for the OF, we see him the season.
  19. If I knew that maybe I’d be able to look away and find a new hobby haha….at least Wed know TLR had no chance to retaining his job then.
  20. It stings a bit but I’m fine standing pat. A cheap reliever and a lefty RF on the cheap would have been nice, but I’m guessing no one worth acquiring was available for what Hahn was willing to give. I’m fine with it. Let them all sleep in their own shit, or watch this team wake the fuck up and rally in this winnable division. I’ll hope for the latter until it’s not possible.
  21. I don’t know what set of rankings you’re looking at, but most haven’t been updated recently besides BA which requires a subscription. I disagree that’s it’s not a big return. It’s 2 close to the majors bats that are back end top 100 prospects or close to it and a young lefty pitching prospect dicing up A ball and a top 60 pick a year ago.
  22. Old rankings. Take a closer look. Strand and Steer are having monster seasons. Strand likely top 100 guy with Reds by seasons end. Steer probably will be with Reds very soon. Both were easily top 5 prospects in the Twins system. Hajaar is a 6'5' lefty draft 61st overall last year dicing up A ball. Its a big return for #3 SP.
