  1. Yah I just don’t see it on Moncada. I certainly agree that he can be a useful and even productive player. But the $ is and will be a huge deterrent even if the bat wakes up. Jerry isn’t going to eat $8-10M to trade Yoan for a bag of balls in July. I do agree that barring a monster and healthy season from Eloy, this will be his last in a Sox uni.
  2. Ehhh. I think this team will have a better record than 2023. It’s not like any of the guys we lost were worth a damn last season even if there was a lot of big names, and this team will at least play above average defense. Looks more like a 70 win team to me.
  3. Pretty underwhelming offseason for the Twinks to date as well.
  4. You might be able to dump Moncada if he has a 2019 like first half, but he absolutely is not “flippable”. Dude is making $29M in calendar year 2024. Eloy could maybe return something interesting like Gio did if he stays healthy and rakes. Big time if. He’s also due around $17M in 2024.
  5. At least he can play defense. Not a high bar to clear, but he’s a farrrr better option than Gavin Sheets.
  6. Didn't really feel worth of a new thread but Marlins hired away Sam Mondry-Cohen to be their VP of Player Personnel . Was Sox MLB analytics coordinator for just one year after being an assistant GM with the Nats. Getz noted Mondry-Cohen as recently as last week as one of the guys they hired from outside the org, or without Royals ties.
  7. Hey, good for the Os. I’d rather hold Cease than take this horseshit offer.
  8. Well….if opening day was tomorrow, he’d probably be out there. Unfortunately.
  9. I still think a Woo + Montes + Clase framework makes some sense.
  10. He can easily be moved in ST. Pitchers reporting doesn’t really mean much of anything in terms of a deadline to move him.
  11. I mean I’d much rather he ask for too much than accept too little. Plenty of time left here.
  12. With Romy having two options remaining, I probably would have cut Peralta or Ramsey first. But not worth getting too worked about. Sox 40 man is in a weird spot. Getz has turned over so much of it that we’re basically down to cutting guys he’s recently acquired if they continue to add 40 man pieces without subtracting. You got Peralta, Ramsey and Speas and then after those three there really aren’t obvious DFA candidates if you work under the assumption Getz is not going to DFA guys he recently signed or traded for.
  13. Bummer… Not a big loss or anything, but was certainly hoping he would clear waivers.
  14. Smith-Njigba is probably worth a waiver claim if he makes it to the Sox.
  15. I don’t really see what Soler accomplishes for this club.
  16. Yes. Another cautionary tale to the O’s hugging all their prospects.
  17. I'd happily give Jo Adell the RF job. That said, man....what a flop he's been.
  18. Lol. Barring a significant injury, Cease is definitely getting traded before his team control expires in….20 months. Add this to the long list of asinine Cease takes.
  19. Interesting deal. Polanco is a pretty good player when he is healthy and still has 2 years of control. Gonzalez is a good prospect, but all bat, no glove, limited athlete that is still a ways from the bigs. Obviously risk. The rest of the deal is pretty meh to me. A 32 year old reliever with one good season, a vet 5th starter (albeit paid down to the league min), and $1 scratch off prospect. The Twins have a lot of infield depth. They needed to find everyday at bats for Julien against RHP, and this does that. Assume you'll see a Julien/Farmer platoon. Major downgrade to the Twins defense, though. Julien is a true butcher.
  20. I mean, yah. Cease has finished 2nd the CY Young as recently as 2022 and could very easily revert back to that pitcher. Woo is super intriguing and has some really nice upside, but was a below average SP in his small sample. I get the thought process on the 6 + upside > 2, but if the M's are actually trying to win a championship, it makes plenty of sense. The tough part to understand is they haven't really acted like that this offseason. Also, never doubt Dipoto. Sometimes it just feels the dude gets bored and makes a trade for the fun of it.
  21. Purely from the M's side? I could certainly see why the Sox have interest in Woo, and Miller to a lesser extent. Without one of those two, you could certainly still make a prospect trade for Cease work, but its much more difficult.
  22. I agree. I just really want the Sox to get a legitimate LH OF bat from this trade. We damn well know they aren't going to sign one.
