I don’t really see what Soler accomplishes for this club.
-
Yes. Another cautionary tale to the O’s hugging all their prospects.
-
I'd happily give Jo Adell the RF job. That said, man....what a flop he's been.
-
Lol. Barring a significant injury, Cease is definitely getting traded before his team control expires in….20 months. Add this to the long list of asinine Cease takes.
-
Interesting deal. Polanco is a pretty good player when he is healthy and still has 2 years of control. Gonzalez is a good prospect, but all bat, no glove, limited athlete that is still a ways from the bigs. Obviously risk. The rest of the deal is pretty meh to me. A 32 year old reliever with one good season, a vet 5th starter (albeit paid down to the league min), and $1 scratch off prospect. The Twins have a lot of infield depth. They needed to find everyday at bats for Julien against RHP, and this does that. Assume you'll see a Julien/Farmer platoon. Major downgrade to the Twins defense, though. Julien is a true butcher.

Twins finally trading Polanco?

I mean, yah. Cease has finished 2nd the CY Young as recently as 2022 and could very easily revert back to that pitcher. Woo is super intriguing and has some really nice upside, but was a below average SP in his small sample. I get the thought process on the 6 + upside > 2, but if the M's are actually trying to win a championship, it makes plenty of sense. The tough part to understand is they haven't really acted like that this offseason. Also, never doubt Dipoto. Sometimes it just feels the dude gets bored and makes a trade for the fun of it.
-
Purely from the M's side? I could certainly see why the Sox have interest in Woo, and Miller to a lesser extent. Without one of those two, you could certainly still make a prospect trade for Cease work, but its much more difficult.
-
I agree. I just really want the Sox to get a legitimate LH OF bat from this trade. We damn well know they aren't going to sign one.
-
I prefer the O's packages too. I feel like Woo is pretty valuable though, and Montes is around 50 on BA's top 100.
-
Duvall is plus defensive OF averaging 1.83 fWAR the past three seasons and coming off a 116 wRC+. He'd be our best RF since 2016 Adam Eaton. Sexy name? No. But would be very useful, and theoretically a perfect platoon partner for Colas (and Beni), if Colas ever works his way out of Pedro's doghouse.
-
Something like Woo + Montes + Clase doable? Montes is pretty intriguing. I feel like the Sox would prefer an OF closer to the majors. Gabriel Gonzaelez just feels like more of what we have so I'd prefer he not be a major part of the trade. I would certainly take him over Clase in the proposed deal, but that feels pretty heavy with the Woo headliner.

He’s gonna start losing these guys to roster crunch and prospect failure. It’s so stupid not to trade some of them.
-
Glad to hear that. You can always lower your price. It’s not even Feb yet.
-
Ehhh. I'd rather hold tight than just trade him for whatever you can get. He does still have two years control and an offer like Norby + Ortiz + filler does very little to improve the future of this club.

Sox select John Schriffen to be TV PbP announcer
ChiSox59 replied to fathom's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I hadn't heard of this guy until he was announced as a finalist a week or so ago. Willing to give him a chance though. I wasn't a huge fan of Jason at first - especially as a huge Hawk fan (even though I knew it was time) - but Jason grew on me. His style was not my favorite, but I could appreciate the talent. The disparity in talent from Jason to a booth like the Twins which is the team I watch the 2nd most of is significant. Wish him well, and interested to see how he meshes with the stone pony. -
Where's my guy Chapelli? Would have figured he'd still show up in the 20s.
-
Anyone know how much of their bonus pool they didn't use?
-
The Sox would hand Bellinger $150M+ just for him to go back to the 70 wRC+ hitter he was in 21-22. That deal would scare the living crap out of me. Thankfully, the Sox won't be at the table of that one.
-
Hopefully the Sox have higher hopes than a Gallo rebound, but $5M is a pretty small price to pay. I'd prefer Duvall (or a trade for a guy like Kjerstad), but short of that, Gallo was on the short list of realistic FA candidates for RF. ABS - Anyone But Sheets.

John Brebbia signs with Sox, Romy DFA'd/claimed by Red Sox

I just can’t envision a scenario where Pedro doesn’t give Nicky Lopez near everyday reps. -

Fine signing, but where are the bats? -
Eder's age is going to stop him from getting a ton of prospect attention at this point, but I just think he's going to have a big 2024. He was on the verge of being a big time prospect before the injury, and even was considered a top 10 LHP prospect in the game by multiple outlets as recently as the trade. Obviously the SSS with the Sox was terrible, but it was just that, and honestly to be expected coming off TJS. I think its fine to pretty much move past the 2023 performance. I still think that's a trade the Sox ultimately will do OK on when all things are said and done.

Still wondering why those DBacks never come up...I'd easily put them in the top 5 most interesting landing spots.
