  1. How many of those guys need 40 man protection?
  2. Right!? They keep Holliday, Cowser, Mayo, Basallo, Norby and their entire MLB roster intact. Its a big ask - to be fair - but you gotta give to get, and at some point the O's have to trade some of these dudes before the 40 man crunch. That is why I am not moving Cease to any other team until the O's blink or another team vastly overpays.
  3. There's a decent chance any prospect busts. Moncada was the consensus best prospect in the game, and Eloy a can't miss top 3-5 guy. Not all prospects turn into superstars. No other club is beating that package, realistically. And we all know the O's need a guy like Cease more than the Dodgers or Braves. I also don't really see any similarities between Eloy and Kjerstad.
  4. Kjerstad, Ortiz, Povich and Beavers is my ask and I am not budging.
  5. That isn't a haul. Sox will almost certainly get two top 100 prospects, plus another solid piece (back end top 10 of a solid system), and lottery ticket.
  6. Literally 20 of the 30 teams aren't players for top tier FAs. Baseball's system is broken. Its a game where you can't really buy a championship because well - baseball. Any major league team can win a 3, 5, 7 game series against any other team. But you can certainly buy yourself a much higher likelihood of a playoff bid. Its super lame seeing the same 5 teams acquire all the elite FAs with the other 5 occasionally nabbing one.
  7. Puke. Patino is a guy I wanted to give an extended try out in the pen in 2024. Anyone know off hand if Patino has been outrighted before? Guessing not based on the pedigree.
  8. More the merrier for sure. I do feel like Getz would prefer closer to the majors guys, tho.
  9. I meant payroll isn't an issue in the sense that I don't think $125M is a hard, cannot pass limit. The Sox payroll has been in the $180-$200M range the last few seasons. JR obviously wants to cut payroll, but I don't think the current payroll of like $118M is the max. That's all I mean by say the say are not at their limit.
  10. I don't really expect the Sox to sign a FA SP. Not because of strict budget limit (like $125M is a hard limit and Getz cannot possibly go over that in any circumstance), but because they're not really trying to win in 24 and doing a fairly hard reset. Then again, I would NOT (fixing typo) be shocked if they did sign a stop gap SP. I am not really sure what their plan is at this point. Being limited to the 10th overall pick really negates the benefit of being god awful.
  11. I dig it. I'd also be calling the Giants to try to get Joey Bart a change of scenery. They just signed Murphy relegating him likely off the MLB roster. He's been awful in the majors and probably is a bust at this point, but that's the type of guy we should be trying out.
  12. I tend to agree, but a Joey Ortiz acquisition could change that.
  13. And dumping him now for a middling prospect or two, and signing Frankie Montas to 1/$14M changes things how exactly?
  14. Right. Payroll isn't an issue. Sox don't NEED to trade Eloy to add SP. That was the point.
  15. They should be doing that anyway. I don't mind making the dude earn it for a month or two in Charlotte, but he should be playing in Chicago most of 2024.
  16. I said they are not "at" a payroll limit. I haven't ran the numbers recently, but the Sox currently projected payroll is what, like $115M with Eloy? Edit: *without adding in buyouts the Sox already paid in 2023 to make 2024 payroll look higher than it is. *
  17. They're not at any sort of payroll limit. If you're going to buy more SP, may as well keep Eloy. What is the point in veteran SP if you don't score any runs? Eloy is one of the few guys on the Sox that could theoretically improve drastically offensively.
  18. I'd hold Eloy. But you also have to at least consider the fact that if he has another meh season in 2024, he's getting bought out and we get nothing in return. If someone makes a good offer for him, you really gotta consider it. But I am not just trading him for whatever to get him off the roster, that's for sure.
  19. Can't say I really follow the Braves logic this offseason. They've paid like $35M+ to acquire Kelenic and Kerr.
  20. Grissom doesn't really fit any of the characteristics Getz has preached. I'd be surprised if he is the primary return. You can probably get that deal (Grissom, AJ S-S/Waldrep, and a lotto) in July. There is no reason to take that now. Just because Getz hasn't accepted an offer as we sit on December 18th, or even 6 weeks from now, doesn't mean all is lost. It probably means he is asking for the moon, as he should. I know we all want something interesting to analyze, but this is probably going to take awhile still.
  21. Man, that’s pretty cheap. I thought he’d do better.
  22. O's have to give to get. They aren't going to have roster space for all these dudes, and at some point they need to supplement their roster, especially on the pitching side. I am not taking anything but an A+ offer from anyone else until the O's meet my price.
  23. I'd prefer we acquire more well rounded players with our one legitimate trade chip.
