They should be doing that anyway. I don't mind making the dude earn it for a month or two in Charlotte, but he should be playing in Chicago most of 2024.
-
I said they are not "at" a payroll limit. I haven't ran the numbers recently, but the Sox currently projected payroll is what, like $115M with Eloy? Edit: *without adding in buyouts the Sox already paid in 2023 to make 2024 payroll look higher than it is. *
-
They're not at any sort of payroll limit. If you're going to buy more SP, may as well keep Eloy. What is the point in veteran SP if you don't score any runs? Eloy is one of the few guys on the Sox that could theoretically improve drastically offensively.
-
I'd hold Eloy. But you also have to at least consider the fact that if he has another meh season in 2024, he's getting bought out and we get nothing in return. If someone makes a good offer for him, you really gotta consider it. But I am not just trading him for whatever to get him off the roster, that's for sure.

Braves Trade for Carpenter & Kerr From SD
ChiSox59 replied to CWSpalehoseCWS's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Can't say I really follow the Braves logic this offseason. They've paid like $35M+ to acquire Kelenic and Kerr. -
Grissom doesn't really fit any of the characteristics Getz has preached. I'd be surprised if he is the primary return. You can probably get that deal (Grissom, AJ S-S/Waldrep, and a lotto) in July. There is no reason to take that now. Just because Getz hasn't accepted an offer as we sit on December 18th, or even 6 weeks from now, doesn't mean all is lost. It probably means he is asking for the moon, as he should. I know we all want something interesting to analyze, but this is probably going to take awhile still.

Man, that’s pretty cheap. I thought he’d do better.
-
O's have to give to get. They aren't going to have roster space for all these dudes, and at some point they need to supplement their roster, especially on the pitching side. I am not taking anything but an A+ offer from anyone else until the O's meet my price.
-
I'd prefer we acquire more well rounded players with our one legitimate trade chip.
-
Perhaps. I need to see more. But he's a DH. He's literally awful at 2B.
-
He is.
-
Julien is a future (and current) DH. Pass.
-
Fair!
-
As it should be. Can always lower your price later.
-
They’ll still suck.
-
This is a deal the Sox should be willing to do.

Yah, I mean I am not going to sit here and say this team will be good next season. It won't be. I am expecting 90+ losses. So let me make that clear before I proceed... It is hard to know what exactly the Sox plan to do the next couple months at this point; certainly seems they're siding more on the skeleton squad side of things. But man, this division is putrid and not being able to pick in the top 10 eliminates any real benefit to just tearing it down and not even attempting to field a competitive 2024 roster. Sox have plentyyyyy of $ to spend; would be nice to see them at least attempt to patch together a roster that has a chance at the ole' lightning in the bottle without long term $ commitments. Not an easy task by any means. At the end of the day it will come down to the same cast of characters - Moncada, Eloy, AV and Benintendi - being the above average regulars they're capable of being. That coupled with some savvy moves and another MVP caliber season from Robert, its not impossible to see this team within a few games of .500 mid season in this awful division. Doubt anyone in the the ALC is going to run away and hide. Then again, not hard to see this team 20 games under come 7/1, either. Especially without Cease.
-
I would not make this trade for Robert + Cease.

New York Mets sign Trayce Thompson to a minor league deal
ChiSox59 replied to South Side Hit Men's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Reyes not being able to field or hit could be a contributing factor. -
Sale returned an MLB-ready blue chip prospectg that was widely top prospect in the game, and a legit top 30 type. Moncada obviously didn't pan out to his lofty projections, but let's not just call him a "top 100" prospect. That would be like O's trading Holliday + Kjerstad/Mayo and two filler pieces.

Is $18.5M AAV even that much money these days? More like solid contributor $ than elite OF $ nowadays.
-
Certainly will have plenty of $ to do so...
-
I feel like signing Maldonado to a 1/$6M deal or trading for Salvy while taking on like 2/$30M would be more "White Sox" than acquiring a legitimately plus defensive catcher for the league min.

Isn't this generally the fact for all sports at all times?
