  1. If nothing else, the *very* early indications seem that Getz will be a bit more savvy on the FA market and less likely to waste money on scrub vets in FA like Jon Jay, Emilo Bonfacio, Leury Garcia, Jeff Keppinger than the previous regime.
  2. The Sox still have not made this official, right?
  3. Its an interesting package. I just feel like Sox need to acquire a potential offensive difference maker in this deal. Rushing is a really nice piece, but do we need to 2 top 100 C prospects when the rest of the cupboard is fairly bare after Colson, Quero and Ramos. To me the Dodgers need to smash whatever offer the O's best offer is to get Cease. Something like Sheehan, Fraso/Stone, Pages/Outman, and an interesting 4th piece. Not married to Pages or Outman by any means, but an MLB ready OF we can stick in RF as the 3rd piece is pretty nice. Biggest issue with any Dodgers package is all these dudes are old.
  4. I am fine with it versus paying Maldonado or another washed vet $4-5M to be just as bad.
  5. Under control through 2026 via arb, if Sox continue to tender him. They already did for 2024.
  6. I think they’re mostly done on SP. Probably add one more low-ish cost SP via FA and of course may well get a rotation option in the Cease deal. Soroka, FA, Fedde, Kopech, Touki is very likely the starting 5 in April with Scholtens, Schuster, and Nastrini next in line and Mena/Eder options by mid season perhaps.
  7. I just don’t see how Sheets will have a role on this club. He does nothing that Getz has preached.
  8. I completely agree with the bolded, and said as much already. I would hold for now.
  9. And waltz right out of the playoffs because pitching wins in the October.
  10. I think most orgs would be happy to hold Santos on their 40 man through the winter (he can sit on the 60 day IL all season and not impact the 40 man), in hopes of him being the same guy he was in 2023 in 2025. He has 5 more years of control. 2025 would still be pre-arb. Of course, we don't know that he actually has a forearm strain significant enough for TJS. What we've heard from Getz is that he's rehabbing and doing well. Do we believe it? Meh. I think its fair to be skeptical. I also think its a huge leap to just write him off and call him valueless and not worth a 40 man spot.
  11. Even if Santos were injured and set to miss the whole season, he would have some value. That said, I personally wouldn't move him this offseason. Let him close to start the year, show he's healthy and then move him in July. Not trading him at the deadline was a big miss; he may well turn back into JAG with a big arm. But holding is a risk I am willing to take versus just tossing him in a deal with Cease . Feels a bit like just giving him away.
  12. I’d say you need one top 5-10, one 25-40, two 50-100.
  13. BEEF….its what’s for dinner here. Hmmm a steak sammy does sound kinda tasty.
  14. This. No one is coming close to matching his price tag. Just trading him to the high bidder now would be a big mistake. Could get the same value in 2 years.
  15. It’s not really potential anymore. He was a 5 tool superstar in 2023 and that wasn’t even close to his ceiling as he still have several long stretches of being completely helpless at the plate.
  16. Can we start Balta and Gal their own Cease trade value thread where they can debate whether Getz takes sunflower seeds, roisin or chewing gum in return for Cease?
  17. He’s have to win the Cy Young in 24 to make $20M in 25. More like $14-15M. It’s an absolute bargain.
  18. I’ve never read a more accurate Soxtalk post. Well done, Dick.
  19. also, Grissom doesn’t really have a position. He doesn’t exactly fit the bill of what getz has been preaching. He is either below average shortstop or we’re putting an infielder in the outfield again.
  20. Then I don’t see how ATL is anything but like the 5th or 6th best option for Cease.
  21. AJ S-S, Kelenic, Grissom or Waldrep and Gonzales seems like a pretty solid return to me.
  22. Most of this fanbase wanted to DFA Bummer last summer. Of course that was ridiculous but I’d say the Sox did decently well on that deal. Nothing exciting but some useful pierces for a transitional year and perhaps a couple guys turn into longer term role players. For an underachieving middle reliever coming off a ~7 ERA and getting paid a $7M+, not too bad.
