  1. I don't recall all the details. That may have been it, I just know he was suspended at one point, and I believe Baltimore released him due to it.
  2. He is not on the major league IL. I could be wrong, but I think that is the major distinction here. If he were on the MLB IL, I agree. They also could just shift him to the 60 day IL to clear him from the roster, and then figure out what to do in the offseason. But since he is on the IL in AAA, they cannot do that (if my understanding is correct).
  3. I don't really think Delmonico's case is common. For some reason they optioned him, he went to AAA but then never played. Then a couple weeks later we heard he was out for the season without ever appearing in a game for Charlotte after he was optioned. I would think generally when a player is hurt, they put you on the MLB IL, not option you. It sounds like his surgery was optional, so perhaps that is why. But still a little strange. If he was on the MLB IL, the Sox could shift him to the 60 day to make space on the 40 man. Since he is on the minor league IL, I don't believe they can put him on the 60 day. I would imagine if Delmonico got DFA'd he would not be the first minor leaguer on a 40 man but not an active MLB roster to get DFA'd when they get hurt and are done for the season. But I guess we'll see. If he was on the MLB IL, none of this would apply. Which is part of the reason why what happened with Delmonico is interesting, and if you're into conspiracies, there may be more to the story than what is out in the public. He also deleted all his social media accounts, and has had previous issues so who knows.
  4. So what do we think the corresponding move will be today. Almost certainly will be Vieira optioned to AAA for the 25 man spot. But Sox need to create room on the 40 man. I do not believe guys on the minor league IL like Adolfo or Delmonico can be shifted to the 60 day MLB IL, so I believe somone will need to be DFA'd. Options not on 25 man include Delmonico, Engel, Palka, Medeiros, Cordero and Stephens. I will guess it's Delmonico, because I see very little chance he is claimed while he's out for the year, and he will be easily outrighted and retained in the org.
  5. I don't believe that is how it works. I think if he doesn't reach the vesting option, the Sox owe him $1M (unless he is on another MLB roster at the end of the season, then they owe him). I do not believe the buy-out has the power to override the option if it vests. That being said, there is no way the Sox are letting that option vest.
  6. Cease pitched 2/3 of an inning yesterday, and was removed. He was not an option for today.
  7. Yah. I get it. There is value to getting Cease some MLB action this year. I agree. I just am not willing to give up close to 20% of his control for a handful of starts. If they want to get him up here in a couple weeks, sure go for it. Once the ASG hits and if he still in AAA, just leave him there until late May 2020. Yes, I know control is different for pitchers than hitters, and you want to get as many innings out of each guy as you can while they're healthy, but still. The Kopech injury was an absolute kick to the nuts, and pretty much eliminated any chance of the Sox being long shot contenders in 2019, and this organization cannot afford to repeat that mistake. Get Cease up here in June, or leave him in AAA for the season. I understand others have different opinions on this and that is fine, but I feel pretty strongly about this one.
  8. They are not going to let his option vest. They will just release him in August if they need to.
  9. Palka is 5/35 in June. His season average is down to .239 in AAA. I don't think now is the best time to call him up.
  10. I thought we heard he'd be back in game action by June 1. Any updates?
  11. DJ Peterson released from Charlotte.
  12. I will repeat. Castillo serves a purpose on this team. You calling up Collins to sit on the bench 5 days a week? You calling up Collins to make McCann the back up. The only way you can get Collins DH at bats where he probably should be most of the time is keeping Castillo around.
  13. Just keep running him out there every 5th day.
  14. Yah, I don't think he did himself any favors in getting up here "soon" though. That being said, I am about 3 weeks away from saying just leave Cease in AAA until next May. If you're going to use a year, may as well get your moneys worth an get him up here ASAP. I am fine with him in AAA, and I do think he has more refining to do (3 BB in 2/3 of an inning yesterday would state as much) but waiting to call him up for until mid August for a handful of meaningless starts is so dumb.
  15. I don’t believe you can put a guy on the major league IL if they’re in the minors. Otherwise I see no reason those guys aren’t already on 60 day. Delmonico can probably be safely DFAd. No one is going to claim when when he’s hurt. They should be able to retain him. Plenty of other guys they could cut too.
  16. Yah, lost me on the home away splits. Leury is a totally fine leadoff guy considering the roster. I’d bat Timmy 6th before 7th, but I definitely would bat him leadoff.
  17. Ricky put together probably the first lineup all season that I would have don’t myself. Amazing.
  18. Guys...it’s a waiver claim. There is literally no cost to do so if you have a 40 man spot. There is no harm in claiming guys whatsoever. If you don’t like the guy after you’ve had him for a bit, DFA him when you need the spot. He may get claimed, or he may not in which case you get to keep him in the organization and he doesn’t take up a 40 man spot. There is zero risk. This really is not that complicated of a concept to grasp.
  19. Door is open for a start tomorrow or Tue with Covey to IL.
  20. I suppose it could be Cease too
  21. Imagine Vieria goes back down in a couple days for Despaigne or Detwiler to make the start in Coveys spot.
