4/17 1:10 pm - White Sox v. Royals (Giolito v. Keller)
ChiSox59 replied to bmags's topic in 2019 Season in Review
It is definitely time to try someone else. Cordell is eligible to return today - a little surprised they didn't make the move. Palka still has an option and can go down to Charlotte and work through it. He'll be back. -
Early August
-
Yes, he missed first half of the year with a broken collarbone. Wasn't really ever able to get his groove back upon his return.
-
Yep. Need like an 11-5 stretch, though that seems like a pipedream.
-
Doesn't seem to be a timetable for Jay's return at this point.
-
I feel for the kid. But at this point, they need to let him go find his swing down in AAA. He is definitely interesting enough to keep in the organization I think he has a chance to be a strong side platoon DH and occasional OF, but his time to go to AAA has passed IMO. He has an option remaining - what are the Sox waiting for? Perhaps waiting for the 10 days to elapse since they demoted Cordell. I believe he's eligible to return on Wednesday.

Dallas Keuchel signs one year deal with Braves

“average hitters”? Lol oh my -
Nova sucks. Why are we paying this clown $9.5M when we could have signed a better pitcher for less?
-
Sorry, wan't trying to sound "angry", but the question was dumb. There is literally no parallel between these 2 things: 1) Wanting to having a major league ready reliever that has a (decent) shot of being part of the next core to be pitching at the big league level over a 30 year old journeyman who has zero chance to be part of the next core. 2) Rushing our 2 best non pitching prospects to the big leagues when both guys have a combined total of less than 500 at bats in pro baseball and neither of which have appeared above A ball. It is silly. These 2 things are nothing alike.
-
How is wanting to play a major league ready reliever instead of a 30 year old journeyman the same thing was wanting to rush two kids with 175 and 300 at bats, respectively, in pro ball? Use your brain.
-
I see he's only made two appearances this year, both 1 IP out of the pen. Is he now a reliever, or Sox just easing him back in after his disastrous 2018 and injury filled ST?
-
Ummm, no. Herrera and Colome actually have the chance to return something of value. Osich could pitch 25 innings with a 1.5 ERA and no one would give you anything of note for him in July. Vastly different.
-
Sure, but its obviously still has ALOT of fruits to bear. 99% guys who become minor league free agents never becomes anything of substance. Chances are Brennan has had a nice little 10 inning run pitching in super low leverage spots and he'll turn back into the mediocre minor league pitcher he was for the majority of his 7 seasons with the Sox.
-
They turned Quintana into their 2 best prospects, FFS. A guy that THE YANKEES let go for free. Just as example. Happy for Brennan, but he's like to be back in the minors in short order.
-
I mean like...if you're trying to win games, fine. But clearly they aren't, so may as well let the kids that potentially have a future figure their shit out at the major league level. At this point, there is really no point in playing journeymen guys that aren't going to return anything even if they have an awesome 2-3 months.
-
Not exactly sure what swapping Frare with Osich accomplishes. Take the 25 year old lefty reliever that has a future with the organization and trade him out for a 30 year old lefty reliever who doesn't have a future with the organization and has been mostly terrible in his previous chances in the show.

He just spent the majority of the past decade pitching in the Sox minor league system after being drafted in 2012. Was terrible in 16 and 17, decent last year in AA, a level he had repeated many times. Left the org as a minor league free agent this past offseason. Signed an milb deal with the Rockies, and was left unprotected and was selected by Ms in Rule 5. Chances if him sticking are very slim, and people pointing to him as a Sox failure is pretty comical.

At some point Moncada, TA and Rodon need to learn how to win games at the major league level. Taking a step forward this season was important. Veterans playing well to potentially get something of future value was also important. Moncada has overall looked good, though he didn't have a great homestand. TA has been awesome. Rodon has been meh. The rest has been garbage outside of a couple innings from Herrera. Young pensmen look overmatched. Lopez looks like he doesn't belong. Gio has been mostly 2018 version of Gio that isn't a major league caliber SP. I know you're mostly a blindly positive guy, and that is great. I am definitely far on the optimistic side as far as Sox fans go, but to say you've been encouraged with this start asinine. This teams sucks balls and we have very little in the way of close to the majors impact talent waiting in the wings. -
