  1. I think they start with 12 pitchers with all the off days and inevitable rainouts early in the season. Abreu, Sanchez, Anderson, Moncada, Eloy, Engel, Palka. Jay, Rondon, Leury and McCann.
  2. Rondon kind of has to make the roster at this point though. Why put him through waivers for Escobar? They need a backup infielder and Leury can't be the only guy. Unless Mendick magically makes the roster.
  3. Yah man, heart crushing end to the season. Just lost their swagger a few weeks ago and couldn't get it back. Pretty sure we hear about Markus getting wrist surgery in the next few days...he just wasn't right, but that certainly wasn't why we lost yesterday. Oh well, I have baseball to look forward to for the next couple weeks until I quickly realize we're looking at another 90+ loss season.
  4. I am just spitballing dude. Someone said there is no where to spend the money. There are obviously still guys to spend money on.
  5. With the Goldy news (anyone hear he agreed to an extension yesterday?), that means Abreu is the best option, unless you want to consider Castellanos a 1B, and position he hasn't played an inning of in his career. Bet Sox either extend Jose, or resign him next offseason. Abreu + Castellanos + Grandal + Cole would be a very nice offseason. Lineup by June 2020: Madrigal 2B, Moncada 3B, Abreu 1B, Eloy LF, Castellanos DH, Grandal C, Adolfo RF, Robert CF, Anderson SS Cole, Rodon, Cease, Kopech, Lopez
  6. Yes, 4 other people mentioned that. I missed it.
  7. I did miss it, thanks. Was focusing on CBB yesterday until my team ripped my heart out, burned it and pissed on the ashes.
  8. Yah, I am hoping when final terms come out we get three options instead of 2. You're also kind of ignoring salary inflation in your analysis. If Eloy is as good as we hope he is, its a pretty legitimate chance that his final arb year would be over $25M when we'll be paying him $14M. The year prior we'll be paying him less than $10M, when he'd likely be making around $15M. Not HUUUUUUGGGEE savings, but they're legitimate savings. And we get him for an extra year with $10-15M of surplus value in there if he's really good.
  9. Thats......a significant difference from 7/$245.
  10. Grandal, Castellanos, Boegarts, Goldschmidt and Cole are all FA next year and make varying degrees of sense as guys we could we spent money on.
  11. Speaking of Sale, is Victor Diaz still in the sox system?
  12. IF its for Charlotte, sure. If they plan for him to make the team over Rondon, I don't know what to say.
  13. I voted yes and he deserved it. I think he rakes this season and makes the Sox have to make a decision. But ultimately I think the Sox keep him down until May 2020, and I am fine with that.
  14. I think you’re underestimating what Eloy would make in his 4 arb seasons. If he is 75% as good as we hope he is, he’s going to be playing at a very nice discount in years 4-6 of this contract. Plus you have the option years, that is reported correctly, should be at an AAV of $17M, which should be a good value even if Eloy isn’t a superstar.
  15. Pretty much seals Rondon and Engel on OD roster.
  16. Right or wrong, I think part of the timing has to do with how this offseason has played out.
  17. I think that is a fair take. Definitely curious to see how they spread out the money. Would like them to pay him a fat signing bonus and lower the amounts due later on. As SS2K and I have pointed out, there is definitely still upside, but I do think another club option or two at the backend would have been appropriate considering the unprecedented nature of this deal. All in all, I am happy with it. But I will reserve final judgement until I see the finalized terms.
  18. Jake is just a bigger dude. He always has been. This is nothing new.
  19. What he is saying is that if Eloy becomes a star, it’s quite possible his last 3 arb years would have been something like $10M, $16M, $24M. Obviously the Sox will be paying something far less during the season like $7.5M, $9M, and $11.5M during those seasons, and then have 2 options that should be well below market value (if he turns into a star). There is definitely some upside, but in order for to a be a great contract for the Sox, Eloy has to become one of the best 5 hitters in the game. I do also agree with you that they’re paying him a lot more early for potential big savings on the 6th season and the two options.
  20. He got this guy named Yoan Moncada.
  21. My guess is the contract will be structures something like this: Signing Bonus: $5M 2019: $1M 2020: $2.5M 2021: $5M 2022: $7.5M 2023: $9M 2025:$11.5M 2026: $15.5M option ($1M buyout) 2027: $20M option ($2M buyout)
  22. Why? Whats the point. This team still sucks out loud.
