  1. Where do you think the Phillies stand in all of this? Rumor earlier today that they plan to up their offer to Manny this week. We know that Manny apparently prefers Chicago to Philly, and I am sure playing with 3 of his closest friends helps the Sox as well. But if the Phillies come in and offer like 8/$300M - he still probably signs there, right?
  2. He just mentioned in a podcast (assuming RLR?) this morning.
  3. The White Sox press release called it a "$10M club option with a $1M buyout", so sounds like the talk of it potentially being a vesting option were incorrect.
  4. In other news, who do we think is DFA'd or outrighted for Herrera and Jay? I am going with Tilson and Clarkin. Edit: Sounds like Clarkin just went for Herrera. So Tilson is my guess!
  5. Just stop watching him. That will solve your problem. He's a Yankees fan and is of course going to support them signing on the best 10 players in the game.
  6. No. 7 years and $245M is $35M in average annual value (AAV). That would be the highest AAV ever given to a player in the history of baseball. It is not a weak offer, and that has nothing to do with what the Yankees offer is.
  7. It would make him the richest player on an AAV basis in the history of baseball.
  8. The latest report that they're upping their offer to Machado this week certainly doesn't indicate that the Phillies are out of the race.
  9. Let's see how it shakes out. I think we're getting MM, but even if we don't, I don't think this team is in any worse scenario than we were yesterday at this time. Engel getting less at bats is a win. We got one of the best 2 or 3 CF options on the FA market for nothing on a short term commitment. I personally don't think those $4M (or Alonso's $9M) were going to be set aside directly for future spending. I also would be surprised if Alonso is on the roster June 1st if Machado does not sign here. In fact, I think he's likely traded before the season if that is the case to open DH up for Palka.
  10. Not really. I just think you're b****ing about nothing. $4M is nothing. Jon Jay is likely going to be the best OF the Sox have in their opening day lineup. We have no CF of consequence on the roster that is a future piece, and we have no CF prospect of consequence that will be ready until late 2019 (being generous here). Adam Engel sucks. He's a 4th OF if everything works out. I have no problem with him Jay and Engel platooning, or Engel going back to Charlotte. This improves the team (marginally) for 2019, and gives Manny another one of his boys to play with in what is likely a losing season in 2019. I see absolutely zero reason to be upset about this, but far from shocked that you found a way.
  11. Main takeaway here is the Engel, Palka and Delmonico can all be shipped to Charlotte without the risk of losing them. When the OF gets a bit crowded when Eloy arrives (or if another OF is signed), 1 or 2 of these guys can go down to Charlotte and get everyday at bats until their name is called again.
  12. It also wouldn't be sitting a checking account labeled "future free agency fund" as you seem to suggest. This is not how things work.
  13. Cool, thanks I will remove.
  14. I didn't mention Jay because whenever I mentioned a CF option, I mentioned Pollock. He would have been my choice, but he is also going to be expensive and cost a pick, and has risky. This is the FA CF list: Center fielders AJ Pollock Adam Jones (no longer a CF) Billy Hamilton (off the board) Eric Young Jr Rajai Davis Austin Jackson Jon Jay I'd say they got one of the better options, for super cheap 1 year deal, and he has supplemental benefits. Don't get why anyone would complain about this. If he sucks, so what. But he's very likely going to be better than Engel, who absolute best case scenario is the 4th OF on the next Sox playoff team, so I am not losing any sleep.
  15. With the Jay news, the OF of miscast characters becomes a bit more crowded. It's been asked a few times who on the 40 man has options and who doesn't, so I will summarize. Out of Options; potentially at risk of not making opening day roster Yolmer Sanchez (not really at risk) Jose Rondon Leury Garcia Manny Banuelos Juan Minaya Group with Options Remaining; potentially at risk (admittedly varying degrees) of not making opening day roster Daniel Palka (1) Adam Engel (2) Charlie Tilson (1) Nicky Delmonico (3!) Ryan Cordell (1) Caleb Frare (3) Ian Hamilton (3) Dylan Covey (2) Carson Fulmer (1) Thyago Vieria (1) Aaron Bummer (2) Jose Ruiz (2) Ryan Burr (3) James McCann (3) Information complied from https://www.rosterresource.com/mlb-chicago-white-sox/ which I would definitely recommend pinning. It has a ton of great info.
  16. He’s literally the best inexpensive Cf option. There are many better bats that can’t play CF, or far more expensive guys like Pollock.
  17. I think they’re gonna give Palka a shot in the OF to start 2019. May as well -DH will always be there.
