  1. Do you believe that keeping the payroll minuscule will mean those very dollars saved are set aside for future years? Do you think the difference in spending $80M on 2019 payroll instead of $35M means that $45M is specifically saved for the future?
  2. Its been bandied about for a few days that the Dodgers are interested in taking back Bailey in exchange for Wood and Puig, and the Dodgers get prospects.
  3. Minneapolis is significantly cleaner, but maybe you aren't considering that a "big city".
  4. The rule 5 draft is generally the conclusion of the winter meetings, and its basically already here.....
  5. Nice little deal for $30M. Surprised to see the Rays win this one.
  6. I would max out at 10/$340 for both guys. Structure as such: Years 1-5: $50M, $50M, $45M, $45M, $40M (effective 5 year-$230M) OPT OUT Years 6-8: $30M, $30M, $30M (effective 8 year-$320M if first opt out is rejected) OPT OUT Years 9-10: $10M, $10M (10 year $340M if no opt outs are taken) I think this is also the best bet to land one (or both) of these guys. Highly frontloaded deal. Doesn't kill the franchise on the back-end even if the player diminishes and doesn't opt out. Keeps the player incentived to get another big pay day at age 31 after 5 years, which obviously is important to the team. I think its a win-win structure.
  7. Hah, didnt see that one coming.
  8. giphy.com/explore/i-dont-believe-you How TF do you insert GIFs on this board?
  9. Those two wouldn't be my first choices (I'd probably go with Cargo as first option off the list of cheap short term options I provided). But yah, I'd rather have Adam Jones or Curtis Granderson in LF than Nicky Delmonico in 2019. I also think its fairly likely that both Jones and Granderson will be had for under $5M, and at that price, if they have decent seasons, they'd definitely be moveable to someone looking for depth in July. The return likely won't be exciting, but you never know. As I just mentioned 3 posts above, I am not paying these guy's salaries, so the White Sox organization paying Adam Jones $3M in 2019 has zero affect on me, and it has zero affect on future years. You always act like if the Sox save all this money now by not filling in its roster with veterans, the money is deposited in a bank account named "Future Free Agency Fund". Hate to break it to you, but that's not how it works.
  10. He at least provides one elite skill. He could be the 4th OF in future competitive seasons. I definitely would prefer not watching Engel play 150 games in 2019, but if the Sox don't add meaningful FAs, I am OK giving him another chance, because there are basically no legit options on the FA market for CF other than Pollock.
  11. There is 0% chance that Cordell, Delmonico or Sanchez are starters are the next White Sox team that makes the playoffs. I have basically zero interest seeing the 2018 season on replay in 2019.
  12. Furthermore, the incremental $40-50M isn't my money, and the its not magically being earmarked for future years (its likely being distributed to owners), so fuck yeah, I'd rather see that money spent to improve the team as opposed to lining the pockets of Reinsdorf and his partners.
  13. I am all for Grandal, but if we miss on Harper/Machado, I'd prefer the guys we get for the OF and 3B/2B to be one year deal guys. Don't see the point in Brantley or Pollock if we don't get a whale. As I mentioned in a previous post in this topic, give me Grandal, and a couple OF and IF stop gaps off this list on 1 year deals, (2 if necessary for the better options). Payroll is still going to be under $80M, and we actually have some flippable pieces. OF Options: Carlos Gonzalez, Curtis Granderson, Adam Jones, Avi Garcia, maybe even Nick Markakis 2B/3B options: Dozier, Mike Moustakas, Josh Harrison, Neil Walker, Daniel Murphy, Ian Kinsler
  14. haha yah, had edited my post to say just that. I don't think the Sox are going to do that to us. At worst, we'll be stocking up on 1 year deals for guys that get pushed aside. Which isn't a terrible plan IMO. Thankfully the positions we need to fill have multiple options on the FA market.
  15. So you just roll with an OD line-up of: Anderson SS, Moncada 2B, Abreu 1B, Palka DH, Castillo C, Cordell RF, LF Delmoncio, Yolmer 3B, CF Engel Good god that team would be bad. If that's the plan, I want Abreu traded for whatever they can get.
  16. Lol, the Red Sox aren't trading JBJ for Yolmer fucking Sanchez.
  17. Right. I am sure the salary can be shed, but teams aren't going to just do the Dodgers favors, nor should they.
  18. I can’t imagine any team in baseball is jumping at the chance to help the Dodgers shed payroll so they can just turn around and acquire Bryce Harper and take on Homer Bailey for prospects.
