I would be astonished if the Sox gave Harper an opt out before the conclusion of year 5 (which still allows him to hit FA again at age 31). Giving him an opt out after year 3 would be insane. Why even bother? He'll be a FA a season after this team is supposed to hit its grove.

I do think the Sox plan to get try to get both. I think having one in hand could help alot with the other. But the odds are awfully long that they'd get both to come.

Yolmer is a good utility man that was clearly overmatched in full time duty. He’s also not going to be that cheap anymore. He’s a fine player, but he’s not nearly valuable enough to acquire 2 years of JBJ. Sorry.

I am not ignoring any of that. JBJ, while I don’t want him, is a starting caliber Major League Baseball player that plays elite defense. Yolmer at best is a glove first utility guy that while be lucky to be playing Major League Baseball in 3-4 seasons.

Do you believe that keeping the payroll minuscule will mean those very dollars saved are set aside for future years? Do you think the difference in spending $80M on 2019 payroll instead of $35M means that $45M is specifically saved for the future?

Its been bandied about for a few days that the Dodgers are interested in taking back Bailey in exchange for Wood and Puig, and the Dodgers get prospects.

Minneapolis is significantly cleaner, but maybe you aren't considering that a "big city".

I think Bailey is actually like $28M with the option buyout.
