  1. Anyone think we see any league wide action tonight? Only 6pm in Vegas...quiet day with Billy Hamilton signing as the most notable news.
  2. I’ve made it clear in this thread that I don’t think he is worthless. He’s paid appropriately. He has minimal trade value. We aren’t getting anything exciting for Jose Abreu.
  3. And Goldie is a significantly more valuable player than Abreu. Your expectations are insane.
  4. This one stings for me. Would have been a great fit for the back of our rotation. For $5.75M...I mean c'mon...
  5. I think the Sox could support a payroll quite a bit higher than that and still profit, even without considering the additional revenues associated with signing the guys necessary to add $75-100M to the ledger.
  6. Yah, if you sign Harper and MM, you damn well better be prepared to be near the luxury cap in 2023-2025. But its never going to happen.
  7. If the Sox don't approach and then exceed a $150M payroll figure in the coming seasons (yes, I know the luxury tax is around $200M), they're never going to be consistent contenders.
  8. Maximize the cap? The Sox could sign both to effective 5 years $250M deals (assuming they take opt out after 5), and still be well below the luxury tax for at least a few seasons.
  9. Its pie in the sky for sure, but the Sox have enough payroll flexibility to sign them both.
  10. Mentioned it before, but this is the one reason I am skeptical the sox are going to have a big offseason. We've been told, and I believe it, that the Sox are interested in long term fits and not short term bandaids. I believe that if the Sox get Harper or Machado, they'd deifnitely add other pieces to try and put together a team that has a *chance* at being in contention in 2019. But if Harper and MM don't sign for weeks, its going to be more difficult to do that. Basically, if the Sox wait around until February on Harper / MM, the market will have shrivvled up. That being said, sometimes some of the best deals can be found late in the offseason, so perhaps guys like Nelson Cruz and Mike Moustakas are still out there looking for homes when the Sox ink Harper in February, and they can be had on short team friendly deals.
  11. Meh. I think these guys would be happy to team if if they're both making > $40M per season.
  12. Hamilton off the board for just $5M to the Royals. Definitely a signing I would have supported at that dollar amount.
  13. I was simply responding to the poster that said you could get Harper and Machado for $65-70M per season. It'd be more like $90-$100M pre opt outs. Not speculating that it could or will happen.
  14. Dodgers Alvarez? I'd personally rather hold onto Abreu and see what this offseason holds than trade him for another potential future reliever.
  15. No doubt, but I highly doubt we'd get that kind offer. Two top 100 or recently graduated top 100 prospects for Abreu would be highway robbery at this point. It isn't happening.
  16. I agree, tho it would likely be $90-100M per year, not $65-$70M.
  17. I’d do Moose in a two year deal if we got Harper. But I would hell do better this offseason based on what we’ve seen and his season.
  18. We’d be giving up nothing. Both Stepehens and Fulmer are likely to be off the 40 man before Gray would be.
  19. I don’t think Familia is getting anything near 4/$60. I do think the Sox ultimately do what is necessary to get one if Harper or Machado if it all possible. It remains to be seen if it’s actually possible. But I doubt that happens before Christmas. Id like to see the Sox add some pitching one short term deals. Sign Pomeranz 1 year $6.5M + option Sign Tyson Ross 1 year $5M + option Trade Jordan Stephens and Yolmer Sanchez for Sonny Gray Sign Stephen Vogt 1 year $2M Sign AJ Pollock 4 years $68M Get one of Harper/Machado a few weeks later for an effective 5 year $225M deal assuming they take opt out after 5.
  20. I know it’ll never happen, but man adding Harper and Machado would be so cool.
  21. What a gross deal for Carrasco, and great deal for the Tribe. I did not, however, realize Carrasco will be pitching next season at age 32.
