  1. At the end of the day, I just hope JR is ready to open the checkbook. If the Sox don't increase their payroll into the $150-$190M range in 2020-2025, this whole thing was never going to work. Harper on an effective 4 year / $190M-$200M (asusming he takes first opt out) is great, but if the Sox FO isn't willing to spend to finish out the roster, it wasn't really worth it.
  2. Thanks for sharing Peavy44 - nice of you to do so. But I admit, that doesn't say a whole lot, and the dude just posted that on FB.
  3. We really don't need more LHP. We have four young legitimate left handed relievers with MLB experience.
  4. I agree the the proposed deal is too light (as I already mentioned), but I don't think Arizona is getting any prospects of note if they don't kick in cash with Grienke. I think Grienke could be had for something like Curbelo + Stephens, if the Sox took on the whole thing.
  5. I just don’t think Abreu has a ton of trade value. Man has a great stick and is paid appropriately for it. Little to no surplus value and limited defensively. Id move him for Ruiz in a second. But I’d blown away if LAD is offering anything near that.
  6. David Peralta is another interesting Dbacks name. 2 years control. Unfortunately not a CF, would be an amazing fit if he could play there consistently.
  7. I’d still do that deal in a heartbeat for the Sox even though it’s not the best fit with Kopech/Cease/Dunning all ready by 2020. Dbacks would want more for Ray.
  8. You’re reading it wrong - Ray has 2 seasons of control.
  9. Same, I’d rather keep him and try to make this team interesting than giving up before it’s even started for a middling prospect we probably won’t even have room for on the 40 man in 500 days.
  10. I’d be pretty disappointed in trading Jose unless someone overpays.
  11. Definitely too little, becaue I would probably do this deal in a heartbeat if I were the Sox. I don’t even particularly love the fit but Robbie Ray is really good even if you only get him for two seasons. I think dbacks would want quite a bit more, plus they just acquired Carson Kelly.
  12. This reminds me of the Zimmerman deal for Detroit.
  13. Plenty of value to be found in the FA market, especially nowadays, but yes, it generally is not found by paying mid rotation pitchers top of the market rates because they're the best options available.
  14. Yes, I follow professor. This Corbin deal will be terrible for the Nats, and I will be happy to remind you of such when it occurs.
  15. I do wonder what the Sox offered, if they even did.
  16. As would I. But now we get to sit here and listen to Balta tell us how great of a move it is and how its market because the Sox didn't do it. Corbin is a good not great pitcher coming off a career. He may be worth that contract for 2 seasons. It will be a terrible contract before too long, and with all the sliders Corbin throws, he is a huge injury risk.
  17. You'd be losing your mind if the Sox paid Corbin $140M.
  18. I wouldn't be. $24M AAV is way to much for Corbin.
  19. Scherzer, Strasburg and Corbin is a nice top 3. Have to imagine the Nats are going to be a real challenge for Bryce.
  20. Because paying a good not great starter $23.5M per over 6 years in his 30s is asinine.
