  1. He did it for more like a 10-12 game stretch this year and was coming off major operation, so I understand the rust in June and fatigue in September. But yah, Rodon needs to be more consistent. I agree. I just think there are plenty of positives with him - but not surprised to see you focus on the negatives.
  2. You're not that well positioned for the long term if the majority of your long term talent is expensive or nearing FA by the time the minority of your long term talent is ready to compete at the big league level. That is one thing that I haven't really seen addressed by the folks that are so against spending on non-elite talent. If we suck balls again in 2019, we lose another cheap year of control of alot of the future core. As as has been repeated here many times, you can't expect a 40 game improvement in one offseason, so there goes 2020. Before too long, you're looking at 2021 as the first year of respectability. So now your window is basically 2-3 years, and you're now dealing with not so cheap contracts from guys like Moncada, Eloy, Lopez, Rodon (will likely be gone by then), Anderson, etc.
  3. BECAUSE ADDING VETERANS ISN'T "REBUILDING THE RIGHT WAY" AND ITS RESORTING TO THE OLD "KW TACTICS" AND "WINNING 5 EXTRA GAMES IS WORTHLESS". I don't necessarily agree with it, but those in that boat have at least been clear about it. Sign MM or Harper, or just suck again.
  4. I am not terribly concerned about Rodon. He was basically unhittable for 2 months during the season (July and August), sandwiched between understandable rust in June and fatigue in September. He is an injury concern, yes, but most pitchers are. If you're running out a healthy Rodon as your 4th or 5th starter, you're rotation is pretty amazing.
  5. Me thinks the Astros would be thrilled to have any of those guys, and they had a pretty stacked rotation, they would have found a spot for Rodon.
  6. And if that talent turns out to be "rotten", we're fucked anyway.
  7. Yah, I mean $14M AAV without giving up anything in return doesn't seem THAT awful. Probably would be fine deal for the first 2-3 seasons, and a washout when Cano is 40/41. Again, not advocating the Sox do this, and honestly, I kind of doubt the M's would pay $50M of Cano's contact to play elsewhere without anything in return.
  8. Amazing to me so many people (or at least the most vocal) are against this. There are ways to supplement the team without subtracting future pieces, and without blocking future pieces. I think the Sox are in our boat, but they're going to let the market dictate things which is OK with me. Wait and see which guys market tanks or other main suitors fill their roster elsewhere, and then pounce. Ultimately, I am OK with that as I don't really want the Sox setting the market on guys like Nelson Cruz, McCutchen, etc.. Things probably change if the Sox are somehow able to woo MM or Harper, though I am definitely not counting on that.
  9. Dude, I literally just said "for shits and giggles". Just looking to discuss something....I am not advocating for acquiring Cano, and I've said repeatedly (mainly to you and Balta) that I do not support trading away legitimate prospects this offseason. Just curious what Seattle would be expecting in return if they picked up 40% or so of his contract. I don't think any team would give up even a backend top 100 guy in this case.
  10. Those people don't know what they'er talking about. The White Sox aren't acquiring Syndergaard.
  11. Nats ink Henderson Alvarez to a minors deal. Definitely someone I would have liked the Sox taking a flier on.
  12. Just for shits and giggles - what is a package that the M's would even agree to? Cano is due $24M each of the next 5 seasons. M's send along $50M with Cano, lowering AAV to $14M. What kinda of return can they expect with that?
  13. I don’t live in a Chicago and never have, so I won’t be buying season tickets. I’ve watched the majority of well over 125+ games per season since I was a kid, and I am now approaching 30. And I’d fucking love to watch .500 ball. I also realize I am not your average Sox fan. I don’t see how signing guys to try to make the team competitive halts anything. Our prospects are either here or a ways away. We can afford to get sign some stopgaps and try to progress. That doesn’t mean the Sox aren’t “doing it the right way”. The rebuild will be in a very bad spot if this team is picking top 5 in 2020.
  14. So let me get this straight - putting aside Donaldson - you’d prefer to roll the same team out as last year without any major additions because you see no benefit in winning more games? Even if those additions are short term deals that don’t hamper the future of the franchise? Just....keep sucking for another top pick? M The rebuild will never end. The entire first wave of guys will be expensive before the 2nd wave has arrived and makes a difference. This organization needs to progress - they’ve been terrible for too long and can afford to begin supplementing, even if the reinforcements don’t include two of the most expensive FA contracts ever signed.
  15. Again, I don't really care much for Donaldson at $23M. But I hope the Sox are at least receptive to these types of ideas. Rolling basically the same group out there next season is a terrible idea, IMO.
  16. Mixing in some veterans on short term deals that don't block meaningful pieces is the way to improve this team, along with steps forward from the young guys.
  17. I didn't say a playoff appearance. There is a middle ground. A step forward.
  18. I worry deeply about Giolito, Lopez, Moncada, Anderson, Eloy (when he arrives) and a lesser extent the meaningful young bullpen pieces and Rodon taking it on the chin for another season. Like it or not, we need those guys to develop at the big league level and learn to win. Plenty of money to spent to fill holes and create at least a decent roster. I hope that is the direction they go. I guess we'll see.
  19. Pretty sure he'll either be claimed again or clear waivers and removed from 40 man prior to the Winter Meetings.
  20. While I agree that Donaldson probably wasn't a fit, I am not making decisions based on draft position any longer. This team needs to learn to start winning. Spending $25M on Donaldson probably isn't the best use of resources, but I am not avoiding the move because you're now the 8th pick instead of the 3rd. It is time to turn the page on the tanking days. I really hope the front office at least agrees there.
  21. Seager is now 31 and is coming off a .221/.273/.400 (OPS+ 86) season and is due $19M each of the next 3 seasons. I am not taking back Seager unless the M's eat half the remaining deal and literally take nothing in return. Even then, still probably turns into a bad deal for the Sox. I've always liked Seager, but I don't think the Sox should touch him with a 10 foot pole.
  22. I am fairly certain we won't see Yolmer out there full time. Pretty sure we'd see Rondon before Yolmer, but fairly certain we'll see a FA over there.
  23. The Sox may have success getting him through waivers later. He passed through the entire AL and most of the NL before the Cubs could make the claim. He then lasted through the entire NL for the Sox to make a claim back. So good chance the Sox should be able to get him through in the next couple weeks unless the Cubs want to nab him again.
