  1. Could still be Kemp, but Sox would need to claim him on waivers.
  2. Kemp is on the Astros 40 man. But I suppose with Sox having AL worst record, that could be easily solved.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 03:29 PM) He was going to catch on to the list, but then he dropped it. I laughed
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) If he was outrighted, he made it through waivers. If he wants to continue to get paid, he'll go to Charlotte. Also pretty sure this is the 2nd time he has been outrighted, so I believe he can elect free agency.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) If he was outrighted, he made it through waivers. If he wants to continue to get paid, he'll go to Charlotte. Oh, you clear waivers before you get outright, and not after? Must be a quick process then. Thanks for the clarification, by the way. I wasn't sure how that nuance worked exactly.
  6. Its just bizarre because I believe besides the vets in Clippard and Petricka, the rest of the bullpen has options. The Sox outrighted Holmberg off the 40 man when they still had 4 open spots (now 5). I believe Holmberg has to pass through outright waivers to get sent to Charlotte, but I could be mistaking on that. Just seems strange to risk losing him, even if he doesn't have much upside. He is at least a usable lefty reliever.
  7. Wasn't the guy I expected to get the axe.
  8. Doesn't seem to appear on any of DBacks mid season lists, but looks like a nice relief prospect.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 04:29 PM) I don't remember the Sale signing looking bad for Chris at all. Given how worried everyone always has been about his arm falling off, it was a very wise move for him too. And Adam Eaton's looks pretty good on his end today, he just happens to be on a different team. Sale should be making over $30M per year. He is an HOF caliber pitcher in his prime with generational stuff. His contract is highway robbery. Obviously Chris signed the contract and he has no choice but to collect what is still more money than any man needs. But I assure you Chris seriously regrets that decision.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 06:28 PM) Imagine what the Indians would get for Lindor, Jose Ramirez, Brantley, Zimmer, Gomes, Encarnacion...if they auctioned all of them off. That doesn't even include "lost value/opportunity cost" with Carlos Santana and Kipnis. Finally, throw Kluber, Carrasco, Bauer, Andrew Miller, Salazar, Cody Allen and even Clevinger on top. Could even throw Austin Jackson and Almonte in there. Of course, no GM or ownership group would tear apart that nucleus unless they were out of their minds, right? Sure, there are teams out there that could auction off their talent and potentially get more because they started with more (the Indians included). That is why the Sox were never good with a superstar pitcher and well above average 2 starter and 2 boarder line stars in Eaton and Abreu. The rest of the team was s***. The Sox were in a seriously bad spot that looked like it was only going to get worse. Years of running the organization on the fly had taken its toll. It remains to be seen if the Sox can actually put a winning product on an MLB field in the next few years. But the outlook is incredibly bright. It is truly amazing what Hahn has been able to accomplish in such a short time, IMO. And as I've already stated; the lion share of those returns reaped enormous benefits from contractual situations.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 03:30 PM) Can we stop acting like Hahn invented the wheel with those contracts? The defending division champion who was one run from a WS title has more than 3 players signed to similar team friendly extensions. They were good deals on Hahn's part, but they're pretty common around baseball. Basically all of those deals looked bad for the player almost immediately. Those were fantastic signings at the perfect tine. They were 3 of the more valuable assets in all of baseball last offseason for that reason. Other teams haven't had that success. If it wasn't for those contracts, the Sox would be pretty much royally f***ed right now.
  12. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) I am a Rick Hahn fan, but the amount of love he's gotten from fans lately is bordering on the absurd. The reason he was able to get such good prospects back in these trades, is because he dealt a bunch of great players, not because he's great! Maybe he did better than the average GM would have (who knows), but any competent GM could've extracted a lot of value in these trades too. The fact that we had to rebuild with a roster full of valuable players is an indictment on Rick, Kenny, and Jerry. The rebuild is exciting, and I'm very optimistic, but the praise for Hahn is out of control. One of the primary reasons Sale, Q and Eaton brought back the returns they did was due to the contracts Hahn negotiated with them. The man deserves the praise he is receiving.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 01:47 PM) There is no reason as of yet to convert him. This is his first full season as a minor league starting pitcher. Realistically he shouldn't even be at AAA yet. He can be made a reliever at any time. He can't be made a starter at any time. Let him start, give him his reps, let him work on mechanics, release point, and mental approach. This. No reason to give up yet.
  14. Had to get the Yo Yo shirt and that hat. Sweet stuff.
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 02:51 PM) I use the name Kyle McMahon cuz that person just sounds uninteresting. Hey! That is like 3 letter away from being my name!
  16. QUOTE (bjm676 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 10:56 AM) Might as well get rid of Volstad while they're at it. No reason he should be taking starts away from Stephens or Guerrero. Seriously.
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 04:43 PM) No mention of who gets sent down. Infante or Minaya? May as well just waive Infante. He has no future with this organization. Minaya is at least younger and mildly interesting.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 04:01 PM) Scot Gregor‏ @scotgregor 10m10 minutes ago #WhiteSox OF Willy Garcia says he's feeling better but can't eat solid food for another week. Says he's already lost 10-20 pounds Maybe I should break my jaw. (kidding)
  19. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) The problem CWS is pointing out is that there's already a glut destined for WS next year and there's no room for Dedelow at WS. As things look right now, the starting OF for WS would be Adolfo/Rutherford/Gonzalez with Fisher and Call on the bench. No room for Dedelow. Only way to not only make room for Dedelow but also get him playing time would be to ( as has been suggested ) move Fisher to 1B and move Call to Birmingham which would leave WS with four outfielders and Fisher as a 5th OF. Or, move both Fisher and Call to Birmingham which I admit , neither are worthy of at this time. This is quite the conundrum. Why can't Gonzalez stay in Kanny to start the year? Having too many legit OF prospects is a better problem than not having enough.
  20. I don't know what the playing conditions are like in the DSL, but I wouldn't be surprised if the outfields were s***. Probably wouldn't hurt to get him on some real playing surfaces.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) I'm sure they've been moving someone else there, but right now the only person on Charlotte's roster listed as a 3b is some 28 year old named Gerson Montilla and he's on the DL. Not like this is a position where we have no slot to put him. Yah, Peterson has split time between 1B and 3B the past few years, but I expect him to play 3B in Charlotte with both Hayes and Gillaspie at 1B.
  22. Maybe some Delmonico at 3B? Certainly a better defensive lineup is Saladino or Sanchez at 3B, Leury in LF, Engel in CF, and Delmonico at DH but we shall see.
