  1. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 03:05 PM) But a team gets him for a playoff run plus a full season, that has to be more valuable. I don't think we will get much more but I do think you will have some teams more desperate now then in the off-season. I dont think Hahn's asking price is going to be any different in 6 months than it is now. That is really all that matters.
  2. How about Hansen? Has he been good enough to warrant top 50, even top 25 consideration?
  3. Where do we expect to see Alec Hanson in updated top 100s? Top 50 guy? Better?
  4. What is so exciting about Pache? Obviously he is young, and looks like a nice talent. But his low A ball numbers are fairly pedestrian for an OF, and seems like an awful like way away. As the 3rd or 4th piece? Sure. But thats what I'd be looking at him as.
  5. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 02:32 PM) To me his value is lower in the off-season then it is at the deadline. Eh. Difference between 3 years and 3.5 years is negligible. As you saw with the Sale return, teams are only willing to trade so much talent for 1 player. I think the offers will be about the same now as they will be in the offseason. The fact that Q has been pretty mediocre this year just makes it more likely that a good few months to end the 17 season may boost his value from its current state. Using the Sale trade as an example, I am pretty sure Moncada would not have been on the table last July, but perhaps Benintendi would have been. Some teams won't move certain guys during the season that they more be more amenable to moving in the offseason. It just depends on the situation. If the Sox get the deal they want for Q this July, they'll move him. If they don't, they'll hold onto him (as they should) for now. Its really that simple.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) I still think he stays. Offseason, he gone. Agreed. Sox aren't taking any less than what they want. Not sure they'll get in July, but we shall see.
  7. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) I think it will be tough to promote him with Remillard there now and Burger presumably on the way, unless they want to try him at another position. True. However, I think Burger will be in WS before long. Remillard's numbers aren't exactly exciting.
  8. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:57 AM) Ray's high K% rate does not scare you? I'd have to insist on Brinson in any Quintana deal, with more needing to be added as well. Personally, I don't love the Brewers as a trade fit. They have quality pieces, but I highly doubt they go all in at the deadline. Yankees = Frazier + Adams or Sheffield + Andujar or Florial + Flyer Astros = Tucker + Perez or Paulino or Whitley + JD Davis + Flyer Dodgers = Verdugo + Buehler + solid third piece + Flyer These could all be potential frameworks for a deal. I feel the Sox need to be getting two high quality prospects in return, a very good third piece with some upside and a low level flyer. Re read my post. I literally said I'd much prefer Brinson to Ray. Brinson, Diaz, Dubon and Bickford is a pretty good package, and Rick could definitely shoot for Ortiz or Hader instead of Bickford to make it a real home run (but that ain't gonna happen).
  9. Think we'll see any Adolfo in the backend of any mid season top 100s?
  10. You can never have too many SP prospects, but the sox need to diversify. Bats need to be the focus for the foreseeable future.
  11. I can already tell I am going to like following this kid. Played his freshman year at Vandy, and did pretty well. Not sure what the story was with him transferring to Binghamton. I think we'll see him in Kanny before too long. Anyone know how is defense is?
  12. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:33 AM) I don't see the Brewers emptying out their minor league system for a high profile starter at the deadline. They will need to rely on farm grown talent to stock their mlb roster moving forward. The preliminary conversations have all taken place, with Hahn telling the league that Quintana is on the block and being auctioned to the highest bidder essentially. The thing about Q is that they can build their rotation around him. I don't see them emptying their farm for a rental, but I think a deal like Brinson (may have to be Ray instead), Diaz, Dubon and Bickford for Q and Swarzak could be sold to their fans. The deal with Ray feels a bit light for me, but with Brinson probably feels a bit steep for them.
  13. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 09:07 AM) Some scouts grade Tatis as a future 65 - 70 grade player. I am praying that does not happen, otherwise the Shields trade is a total disaster. Who? I've seen exactly one scout / insider type, Keith Law, so much as rank him as a top 100 prospect. That's it.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 07:07 PM) It's not stupid. Look at the data. Guys drafted at the very top of the draft greatly outproduce their lower 1st round counterparts on average. The same applies to 1st round picks vs 2nd round picks & below. And logically this makes complete sense. You can't draft the best players in the draft if they're gone by the time it's your selection. It's really that simple. And that doesn't even factor in the benefit of having a bigger bonus pool that comes with better draft positioning. There isn't really argument to be bad here. All else being equal, you want the best draft position possible. I can't believe I actually had to type that last sentence out, but it really seems like a subset of posters don't get this. The one real benefit to the Sox finishing with the 8-12 versus a top 5 pick was that tradable assets being so good that the Sox hung around .500 until the deadline. That ship has basically sailed at this point - Frazier, Melky, Gonzalez, and Holland have no value.
  15. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 02:27 PM) It may be time to get Collins out from behind the plate and let him concentrate on the offensive part of his game. I think all the work he is putting in at catcher is distracting him from accomplishing what he can at the plate. At least I hope thats why he has struggled. Terrible idea.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 03:35 PM) More importantly, is Covey still alive Hopefully he's dead until September.
  17. QUOTE (striker @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) I'd trade for arms. No guarantee all of ours pan out. Fullmer, Giolito and Lopez haven't exactly dominated AAA. I like Perez and Whitley from Houston. I'd take Fisher, Reed, Whitley, Perez (though they probably wouldn't do that). I was actually at a Riverbandits (Astros A team) game Saturday and talked to Whitley's dad. Unrelated, just interesting. Arms? Arms are great and all, but we need to score runs. Out of Rodon, Kopech, Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, Burdi, Hansen, Dunning, Adams, Stephens, Diaz, Bummer, Cooper, Clark, Thompson and the 2017 draftees and guys like Kahnle, Ynoa, Petricka, and Putnam, our rotation and bullpen should be really well covered over the next half decade. We'll be able to fill in via free agency as needed. What we need are bats. And lots of them. I feel like Caulfield after that post. I may need a shower.
  18. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) Speaking of that, what's up with Saladino? I'd probably just waive Pelfrey see if anybody wants to pickup the 250k or so that he's owed, if not, who cares. Pelfrey has been our 2nd best pitcher the last past 2 months. My guess is when Holmberg goes 3+ today, Minaya is asked to mop up 3-4 innings, and is sent back down for Rodon, and Holmberg back to the pen.
  19. Just saw Cleuluis Rondon was released. Yikes. That bat certainly never developed.
  20. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) Had not been Eaton's injury, I doubt that's the case for the Sox. In order for them to get fair value back, one of the three pitchers would have to generate the same value (WAR) for the Sox as Eaton would have over the course of his contract. The probability of that happening is not likely. The whole Sox fleeced Nats narrative was an overblown. It was based on the assumption that Giolito was a still a top 3 RHP prospect in the game. Clearly he is not that, but he is making steps in the right direction. I still think this trade has the makings of a big winner for the Sox, but certainly not a sure thing. But its a trade you do all day when you're rebuilding.
  21. Why? Both suck. Have nearly identical AAA stats in SSS. Infante better MLB stats is SSS. Only reason I could think of is Minaya in 3 years younger and has a non-zero chance of being a part of the next Sox bullpen that matters, but just seems like a strange move to me.
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 12:02 PM) Minaya up, Infante down Strange move. Whats the purpose?
  23. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 10:37 AM) I just don't see a match with the Astros. Outside of Tucker and Bregman, neither of whom appear to be available, there isn't much to be excited about there at all. I'm not trading Quintana for some live arms. I really hope the Sox don't deal with Houston. If I log on one days and see "Q traded to Astros," I am going to cringe, because the return may look good on paper but not actually fit the bill for what this team needs. The Yankees are a much better fit. The Rockies, Dodgers and Cubs would be as well if they were interested. No way a deal with Houston gets done without Tucker.
  24. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 09:55 AM) Highly unlikely Rodgers is available via trade after batting .384 in the minors this season so far with a 1.068 OPS. I haven't looked in awhile, but a few weeks ago his home / road splits were crazy. I think he plays in an absolute bandbox. Still think he is very intriguing, but the numbers need to be taken with a grain of salt.
