  1. Diekman leads the league in appearances. Not sure how you allow your worst pitcher to do that.
  2. Just give me Colome and send Diekman to the moon, please.
  3. Another hit for Chapelli. This guy has me very intrigued.
  4. Over under on how many times Jason mentions Solak is a "local product" tonight?
  5. While I agree playing a man down is stupid and a gimpy Yoan is worthless at the plate (but still FAR and away our best defender at 3B), there really isn't anyone to call up. All position players on 40 man are on active roster but Ramos (hurt and not ready), JRod (not ready), and Perez (Catcher/DH type). So you're DFAing pitching depth to get a pinch runner in Billy or a guy you're never going to play in Haseley. Just not really that useful. A bit of moot point now that Eloy is coming off IL, so you can probably just swap them. But making that move for Billy or Hasley on Monday/Tue for a couple games doesn't really move the needle. You're just going to have to DFA those guys again when Yoan comes back a few days later.
  6. Yeah, the Twins do look good. I live in MN (have most my life) - all my good friends are Twins fans, and I actually know some folks in the org. I watch the Twins a lot; pretty much whenever the Sox aren't playing and they are. They do look good in the early going, but until last night, the offense hasn't been great. They've been living on winning on good pitching against either bad teams (KC and Miami) and teams not playing good baseball (White Sox and Astros). Truth be told, definitely expected them to go into the Bronx and get trounced, but anything but that happened last night. We'll see how the next three go. But the Twins are every bit as injury prone - if not more - than the Sox. Buxton will get hurt. Just a matter of when. Correa's ankle obviously isn't well, and that's not even what has been bugging him. Without those 2, the offense is pretty meh. I mean, look at those lineups they were sporting against the Sox, and now Farmer is down at least a month. But the FO did a great job in adding depth players that have already been needed quite a bit - much better than the Sox. But the Twins are still mostly the same team last year that was even worse than the Sox. Lopez looks legit, but let's not act like they didn't give up a big piece from their MLB club to get him. I am a Joe Ryan fan to the extent I can be for a Twin - still cannot believe the beloved Rays FO gave him up for 2 months of 40 YO Nelson Cruz. But their rotation has lots of injury question marks - like most do. Maeda is already hurting, he is getting his start this weekend skipped. BUt Twins do have some arms they can rely on - Winder, SWR, Ober, Varland. Definitely more upper minors SP than the Sox. I think it is totally fair to call teh Twins the favorite in ALC at this point. An early 4 game lead is impressive. But this isn't a team that is going to run away with the division, IMO.
  7. Where did the Sox say they were expecting a ton from Crochet in 2023? Writers talk about it, because well, Crochet has been mostly nasty when healthy. If he is healthy enough to pitch, he'll pitch. He might not be 100% back in terms of stuff, but even 80% of Crochet is better than most left handed relievers. They also have Bummer who is also a pretty good lefty himself. I don't really think the Sox need to come out with definitive statements like "we expect nothing from Garrett this season" or "we need Crochet to be our 8th inning guy or were doomed". What does that accomplish?
  8. Yeah, I don't agree that an April deficit in the standings requires unachievable baseball to get back into the race. Especially when the Sox have already played several of their toughest series in April. The Sox toughest scheduling month is April. And the Twins and Guardians still aren't very good. I do definitely agree that the Sox have played some terrible baseball 13 games in, and the injuries so far are super discouraging. That said, Eloy and Moncada should both be back this weekend. TA should be back in 2 weeks. Not exactly crippling injuries, yet. But yes, I definitely agree that this season will be very tough for the Sox to compete if those 3 + Robert miss ~half the season like they did in 2022. Imagine everyone agrees on that.
  9. But it IS only 13 games. 92% of the season is left. Of course if the Sox keep losing series for another month straight, they're going find themselves in a really tough spot. April is going to be rough; we knew that. I wouldn't exactly expect the Sox to do any better than .500ish in the 19 games between between now and 5/4 when they have 3 vs BAL, 3 vs. PHIL, 3 @ TB, 3 @ TOR, 4 vs. TB, and 3 vs. MN. They need to come out that stretch not worse than 13-19. Even at that point, they still have over 80% of the season left and the May and June schedules are quite favorable for the Sox. The season certainly will not be over, though I am sure most of the fanbase will think so. Obviously Pedro's point is valid - each game counts the same. The Sox certainly should look at that way, but as fans it definitely is early. Of course, none of it matters if the best players on the team cannot stay healthy.
  10. He threw three innings of one run ball a few days previous @ PIT.
  11. Oh, I think they were serious. Machado and his family posted a custom made White Sox glove he had made and his kid dressed in white Sox gear on socials. The Padres swooped in last minute and tacked on $50M, and the Sox didn't budge (or didn't believe them). I truly believe the Sox (and Machado) thought it was a done deal until the very final stages. Sox thought it was a bluff, and they were wrong.
  12. I cannot imagine there are many Sox fans that would sit here in April 2023 and say that the Sox made the right decision in coming out of that offseason withOUT one of Harper/Machado. It was a massive failure, and in hindsight, the deals were pretty fair compared to what is getting signed now a days. It was a huge miss, I think everyone would agree on that. Doesn't mean that signing Grandal wasn't the best signing for the club that offseason (it was), or that signing Benintendi wasn't the 2nd best option for the Sox team needs after Nimmo who got a disgusting overpay. The Sox need to sign more guys in the Grandal / Benintendi range, not less. Of course sprinkling in a true superstar would help, but until JR moves on and new ownership is in place, that's not gonna happen.
  13. Wouldn’t we all? Unfortunately the team is owned by Jerry Reinsdorf for now.
  14. Sox just need Benintendi to be himself. .275/.345/.400 would be a productive hitter from the left side for the Sox while being a solid OF. Its not sexy by any means, but sort of exactly what the Sox need if he can stay in the lineup. Seems like just because Beni eclipsed Grandal's contract by $2M as the largest in franchise history, many Sox fans are expecting a different player than he is. At the end of the day, on an AAV basis he is around the 100th highest paid player in the game. Not exactly superstar level, especially when considering all younger and solid FAs are expensive these days.
  15. Lol the Sox are 3.5 GB. It’s two weeks of games. They’ll probably be 2 GB after the Twins get their ass kicked in NY this weekend like they always do. It’s been a terrible start, but to insinuate this season is anything close to a lost season at this point is an absolute joke. Yep. Most Sox fans always looking for the nearest bridge. The team has given us plenty of reasons to be skeptical over the last couple years, but each season is its own animal. Just because 2022 was dumpster fire under TLR and the first 13 games look very similar in some ways, does not mean the next 149 games will be. The next couple weeks are going to be tough, but the May and June schedule are pretty soft. Do need the Sox to be healthy during that stretch. Including Johnny Cueto, a minor league signing that was not even on the OD roster and no one expected anything from in that number is somewhat disingenuous. He was definitely a positive in 22, but plenty went wrong last season. If Yoan, TA, Eloy and Robert collectively miss around half the season again, I don’t like the Sox chances of being much more than a .500 squad. I don’t think anyone else would feel differently. Poor start on the injury front so far, but everything is fairly minor and I’ll still take the over on GP for that group compared to 2022. Eloy and Yoan should both be back tomorrow, if not, shortly thereafter.
  16. How quickly can Chapelli realistically move now that he’s stateside? Guy is super fun. I know he played a lot of OF in Cuba, is he passable in the infield? Exciting little fellow - definitely rooting for him to keep making each level look like a mockery.
  17. Sure, it’s possible. They could also win 90 games. Also possible. Tough start, not looking great, needed to stay healthy and aren’t so far, etc, etc. but I don’t think they’ll lose 90 games. They were a train wreck all last season and won 81 with largely the same team.
  18. Benintendi wasn’t signed to hit home runs. You can debate the signing all you’d like, but FAs are expensive. Sox needed left handed hitting OF that could catch the ball. Nimmo went for $160 some million, then there was Benintendi at less than half the cost. The move by itself was fine, even if not exciting. $15M AAV isn’t really that much money in todays game. He’ll probably be 1.5-2.5 fWAR play next 3 years, and that’s fine. Far from the real problem here. The real problem is our core offensive players can’t stay on the field and the FO didn’t do anything to finish the roster. We needed better health than 22, and it certainly hasn’t been a good start in that regard.
  19. Something has to give Friday or Saturday when they activate Eloy. Maybe its a Burger or Sosa option. But Hanser certainly should have played himself off this roster the last 48 hours. We'll have to see what they do.
  20. I don't think he's done. I don't think he is worth 3/$60M, nor would that have been anything close to a wise use of resources for a team with plenty of 1B/DH types.
