QUOTE (Dunt @ May 12, 2017 -> 12:09 PM) If you get an offer worth considering, you look at it long and hard. If you dont, you still have an excellent 8th and 9th situation the next couple of seasons. Simple. This. I'd want something pretty decent for him at this point with all that team control.

Sweep these hapless Padres. Please. Sox have been playing some really bad baseball the past week. Time to snap out of it. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 12, 2017 -> 09:52 AM) You guys think the Cubs would do a Miguel Gonzalez for Candelario swap? No, but it would make me happy. -
QUOTE (bmags @ May 11, 2017 -> 02:29 PM) Pretty sure it's at GR Field Ahhh. Well....forget that. Petco is amazing though.

QUOTE (FT35 @ May 11, 2017 -> 02:11 PM) I know, I know...it's just so near and dear to my heart...plus...I gotta get psyched for the Sox/Pads game tomorrow. Traveling in to town for it. I only make a game every few years or so. Looking forward to being fans with all of you who go on a regular basis. Petco is amazing. I haven't been for a Sox game, but the stadium is fantastic. And San Diego is wonderful.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 10, 2017 -> 01:10 PM) Eh, if there's one thing this org deserves the benefit of the doubt on it's keeping pitchers healthy. Look at all the "rushed back from a soft tissue injury and then more seriously injured himself" (Britton, Thor) cases we've had already this year. I am not really suggesting they should have rushed him back. I am moreso suggesting that no one really know what the issue with Rodon has been dating back to ST, and if he ends up not pitching in ML this year and undergoes a surgery that eats in next year, it'll be a damn shame it wasn't just taken care of right away. The Sox completely deserve the benefit of the doubt when it comes to pitchers. Its just a shame our prized jewel hasn't pitched this year and no one really knows why. His clock is a'tickin'.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 10, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) Releasing Todd Frazier would be one of the dumbest things we could possibly do. This isn't a one year process, so if guys like Delmonico & Davidson have to wait an extra couple months before getting playing time so be it. Frazier is only an extended hot streak away from becoming a decent trade chip. There are several teams that will be looking at 3B upgrades come July and Frazier has a chance to be the top option on the market. There is potential upside in waiting this thing out. This.
-
It's a damn shame that a significant amount of MLB development time (and service time) is going to be wasted on this. If he ends up needing to go under the knife, its going to be very disappointing that it wasn't handled earlier. Obviously hoping that isn't the case and he is back in the rotation for good in a few weeks. I can only take so many more Pelfrey/ Covey starts.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 10, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) Eh, if you assume there are multiple clubs interested, then the Sox will be able to make a trade. I mean what's the downside risk? You lose a shot at a C+ prospect in July? The upside is you get the same prospect, maybe you gotta throw in some cash, but you clear a roster spot for Delmonico and Davidson, two guys who will actually be around for the next good Sox team. Davidson is already on the team. Delmonico well get his chance. We don't need to DFA Todd to make that happen.
-
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 10, 2017 -> 11:52 AM) Honestly this isn't an awful idea. See if you can work out a trade and if nobody picks him up he's just back on the club like nothing happened in a couple weeks It is an awful idea. If the Sox wanted to GIVE Frazier away for nothing, they'd be able to.
-
Just let him keep playing until you get something interesting for him. Back end top 100 guy probably out of the question at this point. But don't just trade him for minor league depth. No point.

Classic Caulfield post.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 9, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) I'd send him down for the rest of the season and work with the Big Hurt on pitch selection. You can't make it hacking at everything. Send him down and have a proven big leaguer like Big Hurt show him how to use his talent. If not he's destined for failure the way he hits. His fielding is not so hot either. jeezus

QUOTE (SCCWS @ May 9, 2017 -> 11:40 AM) Last I looked, he had 8 of the 15 errors Charlotte has made. He either covers a lot of ground or needs a lot of time in AAA. Unless he is going to DH. Delmonico isn't going to stick as an everyday 3B. But he has a nice bat, and will be up this summer sometime.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 8, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) Usually that is in the middle of June sometime, but you also have to add 31 days of service on to that date as he was up last year. Yah, I suppose I wouldn't be blown away to see them wait until late June. But I still expect him up sooner.
-
Strange. Must be some back story. Figured he'd be up here before too long.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 8, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) His K rate staying down is the big thing I want to see happen. Realistically that, and another year of control/Super 2 status are the biggest reasons to keep him down. A recent study found about $10 million reasons to try to push the guy past the Super 2 deadline. When is his super 2 cut off?

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 8, 2017 -> 10:16 AM) Well Kopech isn't going to be up next season (maybe September) so there's that. I do expect Rodon, Fulmer, Lopez, Giolito (hopefully) and Shields to be in the roster, barring a Shields trade. So there should be opportunity for Danish to get starts as the Sox usually are careful about watching guys' innings and skipping and giving more rest. Could even go 6-man rotation. Point is, no time like the present to give some of the more fringe guys a shot. By the way - Matt Cooper has thrown more than 2x the innings in AA than Covey. He is a guy that would be interesting and is going to have a tough time cracking the roster once the rotation includes Rodon, Giolito, Lopez and Fulmer. I'd much rather he get a few starts until Rodon/Lopez/Shields are in the rotation.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 7, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) Whatever happened to all the rebuild guys, team must lose for draft picks? The guy has sucked. He is a rule 5 guy, and there is a 99.9% chance when you throw a rule 5 guy directly in a major league rotation, he will suck. The team is going nowhere. Why are the White Sox widely criticized on this board for "rushing" prospects, but every damn time there is the first sign of a guy sucking or of a minor leaguer going on a roll, the same people who b**** about it, want them to do what they b**** about? Let guys develop. It isn't necessary to see what some of these guys can do at the major league level yet. Make sure they are ready. Let Covey get destroyed while that happens. A good week, a good 2 weeks, a good month isn't proof. If you really want a rebuild, you have to be patient or it isn't going to ever work. To be fair, I was never one of those guys. I never thought this team was that bad. .500ish until major pieces are moved. So far I look like I'm right. In the meantime, I'm done watching Covey. I realize right now there isn't much in the way of options until we get healthy. So it probably is what it is. I am fine with the rebuild, but throwing Covey out there every 5th day is accomplishing nothing.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 7, 2017 -> 11:30 AM) Which of those guys are ready though? Covey's a complete joke, but when the #1 goal of the season is developing young talent and not winning, who really cares if Dylan embarrasses himself out there once every five days. The last thing we should be doing right now is rushing any of our key prospects because the incumbent sucks balls. I will add if someone interesting hits waivers, I would dump Covey in a heartbeat. Matt Cooper, Jordan Guerrero or Tyler Danish all would be more interesting. None are really ML ready, but Cooper is probably deserving of a shot. He is 26 and isn't getting any younger...I'd rather see him make a few starts until we're back healthy and Lopez is up than watching any more of Covey.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 6, 2017 -> 07:18 PM) Matt Cooper is nearly 26, not a top prospect and has double the AA innings as Covey. This year he's K'ing 34% of batters and walking 6%. White Sox promoted Quintana straight from AA. I'd much rather see him than Covey, to give one example. Yep. Danish, Cooper and Guerrero would all be more interesting. Heck I'd rather give Luebke a shot. Lopez will be up soon enough. Shields and Rodon to follow. Hopefully this is it for Covey. -

QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 6, 2017 -> 07:04 PM) Time for Covey to be sent back to Oakland This. Or send some s***ty A baller over for him, and send him to Birmingham. No point in letting him start another game. -

QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ May 6, 2017 -> 11:15 AM) He's got a decent scouting report but seems to have had some setbacks. I haven't paid close attention to him pitching but if I remember correctly he got lit up at least once this year. Maybe he'll slide to the bullpen when Shields or Rodon gets back instead of being sent back to Oakland. He's gotten lit up a couple times. Danced a tight rope in the decent outings. Watch today or his next start. The guy gets hit HARD. A lot. It's not going to get better anytime soon. He is nowhere near ML ready and probably never will be anything more than 25th man type. With the decent start, I'd prefer they start someone else as I see no real chance of him being a part of the future. Problem is Danish is about the only realistic option until we get healthy and the passage of time for Lopez. I'd rather watch Jordan Guerrero go out there until Rodon/Sheilds/Lopez are going out there every 5th day. -

I can't wait until we don't have to watch Covey pitch except in laughers. The guy sucks. Get healthy, Carlos. And Shields. Too bad Lopez can't come up for another few weeks.
