2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
ChiSox59 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Willy Garcia has played in CF for the Charlotte last several games. Any reports on how he has looked? -
QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 10:16 AM) And the thread takes the inevitable turn to Jerry Reinsdorf culture of losing pissing match. To be fair, any thread Thad Bosley posts in goes in that direction.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 09:58 AM) They did offer Samardzija in the the neighborhood of 80-90 million and went pretty far for Alex Gordon too. The Tanaka offer was for over $100 million as well I believe. They haven't signed any of these deals. They've been in that area though before. Thank the lord those didn't work out.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 08:18 AM) The Sox are one of only three teams to never hand out a contract greater than $70 million. How many of those contracts turned out well?
-
Gotcha, the "make a deal" made me think they're trying to trade the #1 pick, which to my knowledge, isn't allowed. I just misread what he was saying. THanks..

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 12:46 PM) Speculation is that Minnesota wants to cut a deal at #1. What exactly do you mean by that?

From everything I have read, the White Sox were much better positioned if this dragged out another 2 months.

Covey back to OAK. May to AAA. Asche DFA. Bring up Garcia and Delmonico or Hayes. Hell give me Raburn or Bourgeois if they prefer. Problem is no one really to replace Covey. Giolito, Lopez and Fulmer need to stay in AAA for now. Pelfrey I guess? Danish? -

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 19, 2017 -> 06:32 PM) Asche and May can console each other in the airport bar. I hope they're both removed from the active roster after tonight. -
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 10:30 PM) I would try calling MLB.tv and asking them if they can manually add it on for $25. I mean, the season is 2 weeks old, so you're getting less value than I did already. Yah, I am sure they would do it. Just need to get around to making the call.

Get this man to Chicago ASAP

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 08:21 PM) Amazing to me they keep letting May bat late in games His time has got to be coming soon...
-
QUOTE (reiks12 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 08:01 PM) you can tell that Hawk is mad at Abreu, very good play. Hawk is not impressed Pretty easy to be mad at him right now. He's been horrific.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 07:53 PM) Harvard book smart, yes. Baseball general manager smart, no results yet to support that claim. Very debatable

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 04:27 PM) Well you wouldn't really be saving money if you don't really want the mlbtv part haha unless you're saying that you already pay for mlbtv so might as well just add MiLBtv for $25 haha I already have MLB.tv. Have for years. I watch nearly every Sox game, and I've never lived in the state of Illinois, so its always been a necessity. I thought about ordering Milb.tv the other day. $49 just seemed a bit steep considering I probably will only use it every now and then. But for $25, heck, why not. That said, looks like it was maybe something I needed to do before the season started and I was charged for mlb.tv. I can't find a way to get the milb.tv for half off right now. If anyone knows how, let me know, and thanks in advance.

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 12:53 PM) My friend has an MLB.tv subscription, and if you pair Milb.tv with it, you get it for half off. So I currently have it for $25. Is that right, hmm. That may have just swayed me.

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) There is no way on God's green earth that Saladino nails down second base over Moncada. Yes. Saladino will be shifted to 3B when Moncada comes up. Actually wouldn't be totally blown away to see the Sox put Saladino in CF when Moncada comes up, assuming Frazier is still on the roster. Yes, I know Saladino hurt himself playing in the OF. But honestly, he's probably the 3rd most suitable guy to play there on the roster currently.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) May is horrible in CF. He turned an out into an inside the park home run yesterday. He has not hit a ball with authority and mainly just strikes out. Leury Garcia on the other hand has played a decent CF. Two big plays the other day. One with his glove and the other with his strong throwing arm. There is an opening in CF for Moncada if he wants to earn it. He just needs to get off the idea that he can play second base at the major league level. He did anything but prove that during ST. He has played 0 professional innings in the OF. While I agree he probably profiles pretty well in CF, don't think the Sox send him out there unless he proves he cannot play the IF at the major league level. Thats at least a full year away.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) So what the hell is going on with Frazier? Seriously..dude must be quite ill.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 12:11 PM) May can defend a major league CF today. His bat wasn't even AAA ready last year. It doesn't look much better in a small sample size this year. Yep, we're in agreement. It's a shame we don't have anything remotely interesting to try instead until Tilson is healthy.
-
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 11:57 AM) Why? L. Garcia is outhitting him this season thus far. Because he has a better bat than than Leury (2017 SSS be damned) and May. I was all for giving May a shot at CF, so I'm not mad about the move or anything. But its obvious he has no business in the big leagues, and probably never will.
-
QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) So this is probably their best lineup right now, right? Saladino Cabrera A. Garcia Abreu Davidson Frazier Narvaez Anderson L. Garcia Most likely yah. Would look much better W Bourjos in there. Sucks we don't have anyone else we can throw out there in CF. May needs to go back to AAA. Engel has been awful in AAA. Tilson is not expected back til June sometime, right?
-
QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Apr 17, 2017 -> 09:24 AM) What is a realistic return for Robertson at the deadline if he has a dominant first half? By dominant, I mean 90%+ in save opp, ERA Could he net a top 25 prospect? A guy like Jimenez if the Cubs bullpen implosion continues and Davis gets hurt? Or a guy like Robles if the Nats feel they are a closer away from being a title contender? If he is lights out the first half, I could see a back end top 25 guy, plus a an organizational 10-15 guy. I don't think we'll be getting a top 10-12 guy, which is what Jimenez and Robles are. But I don't doubt that Rick will ask.

Would love to see Holland keep pitching well. Was always a fan of his when healthy on the Rangers. Lets win another series, Sox!
