  1. Why bother at this stage? edit: that said, I trust Hahn at these types of things.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 04:10 PM) Nope. Why would I? I always want the Sox to win the games I go to. I could be mistaken, I haven't paid a ton of attention to Soxtalk the past couple months as I have been fully immersed in CBB, but I thought you were one of the big tank guys.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) Can't wait to be there Opening Day. Q vs. Verlander baby. Should be a lot of fun. Are you going to be rooting for the Tigers?
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:59 AM) Leury can also be a backup OF. If Leury comes even remotely close to his AAA batting line, he'd be a backup like Saladino, but with CF ability. Sanchez, I just don't see it at this point. His only hope of sticking is Frazier getting moved and Saladino becoming the full-time 3B. And even then, he just becomes the inevitable victim when Moncada come up. In any event, may as well give Sanchez one last chance to prove he is ML worthy. Nothing to lose.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:46 AM) What's the point of carrying both Leury and Yolmer? Aren't they redundant? Is it just because both are out of options? Yes. Neither have anything left to prove at AAA. The Sox are likely to be terrible, so may as well give them as much PT as possible to see if we have anything before moving on. Not like service time is a concern with those 2. Put up or shut up time.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:42 AM) How do you get 5 bench guys? Davidson as DH and Narvaez as C. Bench: Leury, Sanchez, Soto and Asche. This. And Asche OR Liriano, but Asche has the clear lead.
  7. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 09:21 AM) Cody Asche is definitely hitting his way onto the roster. He's seen time at 1B as well this spring. Yep. At this point looks like we're pretty much down to the last position player between Asche and Liriano. Have to imagine Davidson, Leury and Sanchez will all break camp with the team as they're out of options.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2017 -> 07:43 PM) Frazier you trade for pretty much anything you can get. He has zero trade value. Same with Abreu. Abreu most certainly has trade value. C'mon man.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 08:39 PM) Trolling, joking, etc. "Seriously" covering stories about this s*** show of a franchise This is what everyone wanted.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 15, 2017 -> 07:53 AM) Just to add some context around May and Engel... May has half a season in AAA (83 games), where he hit .266, drew walks at just a 4.6% rate, didn't show any power, and struck out 22.4% of the time. That's after only playing about 60% of a season in AA the year before due to a concussion - so he's been moving up a little fast as it is. He's a fringy prospect leaning heavily on speed (plus) and glove (above average or better), but his hit tool is a question mark, there's no power and he has a below average arm. He's a guy you want to make sure gets very comfortable hitting, because that will need to carry him. You don't want to rush him any more than he's already been rushed. Engel is even less ready. He's only got 41 games in AAA, where he hit .242 and struck out in a whopping 31% of his PA (though he did walk and show more power than May). He's got a big ceiling but has struggled specifically with consistency at the plate - the definition of a prospect you want to let get well-settled before moving him up. Let them develop. Both of these dudes are 25. I am fine giving them another couple months in AAA, but at this point they probably are what they are. In what is going to be a lost season, they better get some time in CF.
  11. 1B. Abreu 2B. Saladino SS. Anderson 3B. Frazier LF. Melky CF. Bourjos RF. Avi C. Narvaez / Soto DH. Davidson BN: Leury, Sanchez, Narvarez/Soto, Liriano Rotation: Q, Rodon, Gonzalez, Holland, Shields BP: Robertson, Jones, Jennings, Putnam, Petricka, Ynoa, Covey
  12. I honestly don't think they're going to be anywhere near as bad as most here think (want?) them to be. I think they'll hang around 5 games under .500 until they dismantle sometime in June or July.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) Another fun reminder for Hahn having an insanely bad offseason last year. Yah, because we're really going to miss Zack Irwin and JB Wendelken. Peace to Lawrie. Dude can't stay healthy. At this point, let's see what we have with Saladino at 2B everyday until Moncada is ready.
  14. QUOTE (restinpiss @ Feb 28, 2017 -> 01:55 PM) Keith Law has him at #47 in front of Vlad Jr. Literally the only guy who had him anywhere near 100.
  15. I was all for stop gap types a couple months ago, but at this point, why even bother? Let's see what we have with AAAA and fringe guys like Davidson, Liriano, Sanchez, Saladino, Willy Garcia, Tilson, and even Avi. Having the DH spot open for a rotation is best call at this point. No idea what the point of Pedro Alvarez is at this juncture.
  16. QUOTE (Sockin @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 02:27 PM) Derek Holland bringing the fun to White Sox clubhouse Everything I've seen about Holland has made me love this guy so far. Couple this with being a huge WWE fan and I'm on board. Yah, he is a pretty funny snapchat follow.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 09:17 AM) Totally agree. I really see 2018 being our bottom, not 17. Which is why I say take your time with the kids. No reason to blow service time in 2017 (and 18) if the team sucks balls and the player didn't force their way onto the ML roster.
  18. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Feb 18, 2017 -> 07:54 AM) I'm not 100% sure on this, but the two Swisher trades have to be among the dumbest trades of KW's tenure, right? (And that's a high bar, IMO...) When Gio Gonzalez is literally the best play you've traded away, I think you're doing OK. Obviousl KW never focused on acquiring young players and keeping his farm intact, but honestly no one he traded away ever amounted to much. The Chris Youngs, Dan Hudsons, Aaron Poredas, Chris Carters, Jeremy Reeds, Brandon McCarthys, Clayton Richards, etc., never became quality big leaguers that would have been core players for the Sox. I didn't necessarily always love KWs style, but what he traded away never amounted to much.
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 17, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) He's the kind of dbag who would show up on a rec softball league and ruin the fun. He'd be a hell of a softball player.
  20. Love the banner! Dunner w a huge chaw in.
  21. Fun read. Definitely more exciting than reading about how dominant the Barons and Knights are going to be. It's an interesting thing to consider and one Soxtalk has mainly ignored the past few months. I do genuinely wonder what type of moves the Sox make if they start out hot and find themselves 5-10 over come mid June. Do they stand pat and bring up the kids? Do they say screw it, we planned on sucking anyway, so let's trade Frazier, Q, Melky, Lawrie, Robertson, Gonzalez, etc.? Or do what the writer suggested and perhaps just eat money and pick up a few expiring contract veterans to fill the gaping holes in CF, C and RF. Who knows - maybe Tilson or Liriano will have proven to be adequate big leaguers. It's an interesting thing to ponder, but I don't see any scenario where the Sox subtract legitimate prospects, even if they start out hot. And They shouldn't. But I do agree with the writer in stating that this team as currently constructed isn't nearly as terrible as every here expects.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 04:33 PM) For those not at all interested in the Sox right now, what exactly was interesting about the same 78 win team year in and year out that the Sox have had the past few years? For me, it's not that I'm not interested at all. I said it's the least interested I have been in the Sox, maybe ever. I'm 26. I've watched on average probably 135 games a year (maybe more, but can't watch day games at work), since I was in high school. I'm obsesssed. But I've always liked that the Sox have tried to win every year, even though it hasn't worked. Generally they've been fairly competitive each year since 03, with a few outliers. I fully understand that the rebuild is necessary, and I'm behind it, but it sucks that it's Feb 15 and I already know the Sox aren't going to relevant at all this season. I'll still watch a bunch of games and root for the Sox to win until it's obvious that they're terrible - that shouldn't take long - but it's just different. Therefore, it's the least interested I've been in awhile. Baseball is how I spend my summers - I don't expect that to change this summer, but it's deflating knowing there is zero chance of playing in October.
  23. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 14, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) I can honestly say I have zero interest in baseball right now. This is the first time ever I really do not care. I know they are rebuilding and it's necessary but I just do not care about anyone on the MLB roster. I should care about Rodon and Anderson but I don't. I am in the same boat. I have never been less interested in a White Sox club.
  24. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Feb 13, 2017 -> 02:36 PM) Lopez will more than likely end up as a reliever. Very few starting pitchers with his size and frame have held up as starters. I hope that I am wrong, but I still feel he could be a dynamic reliever for us Stroman? He's a few inches smaller even. But generally I agree with you, but Sox should give him every opportunity to start.
