QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 10:29 AM) Counter point: The youngsters start coming up and the huge FA class hits. Quintana leads your staff of Q, Rodon and any three of Giolito/Lopez/Fulmer and possibly even Kopech or Hansen. Suddenly you might even be able to flip some of the young pitching. Q is definitely a leader in the clubhouse and could easily fill this team's Lester role. I think the upcoming draft, Robert and returns for Frazier/Nelly/Robertson will ultimately decide Q's fate if no team blows them away. I think our best trade chip other than Q is Jones. He could get us a nice package this summer.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 08:25 AM) I wonder if all these guys playing well would lead to Kenny changing to a buyer. That CANNOT happen. Full rebuild. Doubt it. It would mean we could potentially trade them for something better than organizational filler in June and July. The Sox also play the god awful Twins 6 of the first 12 games. Would be surprised to see them put up a decent record over the first few weeks.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Mar 31, 2017 -> 08:17 AM) I agree that it isn't a big deal but IMO, it is probably a waste of time and money. What bothers me is that they need a LH bat to DH and Davidson takes up that last roster spot. Asche will platoon with Davidson. Both will likely be gone by June, but ya never know. It is certainly not a waste of money? It would, however, be a waste of potential resources to let Davidson walk for free, when you may as well give him a couple months worth of at bats and see what you have. Time? The Sox have all the time in the world.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 05:48 PM) I think taking Davidson was a mistake, but time will tell. I'll be happy to admit I am wrong if he starts raking againsy RH pitchers and cuts down on his strike-outs. Meanwhile, we could have used Delmonico's LH bat at DH. Asche in RF and Demonico at DH (and eventually Moncada at 2nd Base) would add to other LH hitters in the line-up, (Melky, May, Narvaez) - six guys who can hit LH and at least a few of them with power. How is it a mistake? If he sucks, they DFA him and bring up Delmonico, or whoever else deserves.

Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal

So is this guys going to go by Luis Moirán once he gets to the states? Kind of like Jose Abreu going by Jose Dariel before he came over. Or more like Yasiel Puig Valdez sticking with Yasiel Puig? Just curious. Not sure what is customary for the Cubans. -
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 30, 2017 -> 12:12 PM) we're close now! I'm oddly excited to see how bad this team is while rooting quite hard for Jose, Q, prospects, etc. It is in the White Sox best interest to not be horrifically bad. We need good first couple months from the guys we can move - Quintana, Frazier, Abreu, Jones, Robertson, Melky, Jennings Gonzalez, Holland, and Shields. We want the younger fringe guys to not be terrible and look the part of a potential part of the White Sox future - Saladino, May, Narvaez, and to a lesser extent guys like Davidson, Sanchez, Tilson, amd Ynoa. Then you have our obvious building blocks in Rodon and Anderson, soon to be joined by Moncada, Giolito, and Lopez that we want to look good. I just named off a good portion of the active roster. The White Sox are not going to be very good to start out the year, but hopefully decent enough that we can move the guys worth a damn. They're going to be worse once guys Q, Frazier and Melky are subtracted and more kids are added. But the Sox being horrible would mean that most likely, our young players did not show well, or worse, guys like Quintana, Frazier, Melky, Abreu, Jones and Robertson regressed, which is far from the best thing for this rebuild.

-
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) Covey is a perfect tank commander in the rotation. If it were up to you, you'd run out a rotation of Shields, Holland, Covey, Beck, and Danish.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 01:18 PM) Who has some serious doubts about if he can actually be a catcher defensively. Ehh. I think those doubts are overplayed a bit. I think he still has quite a bit of development left to do on the defensive side, but I think the moving off catcher thing had more to do with the fact that his bat is pretty close to ML ready, and everyone figured the Sox would bring him up before he was ready defensively. Now, they have time. They don't have to rush him. The Sox will give him every chance to catch, and they have a history with making poor defensive catchers good ones (see Flowers).

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 01:06 PM) I'm not sure why there is this obsession with Stubbs. I would prefer many other prospects to him. I think people forget that we have one of the best 3 catching prospects in the game.
-
QUOTE (SoxChinMusic @ Mar 29, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) Absolutely agree. In order to get the proper balance of pitcher(s) and position player(s) w/o sacrificing the quality of prospects, Whitley has the ability to be a TOR starter also. If we were to back off asking for Martes, this may allow us to also get Stubbs. In order to get Stubbs, if we had to work in Jennings or DR, we can do it. Worst case, IF the Astros balk, we could accept Reed and not Whitley with additional tinkering. Reed is simply not quite on the fast track as Tucker may be but I feel he'll work out and is a LHB.. Tucker + Fisher + Whitley + or (Stubbs/Reed).. I'd prefer a handful of guys over Stubbs. We have one the best catching prospects in the game. We badly need talent in the OF. I, too, would be fine passing on Martes, but I'd want Tucker + Fischer + Reed + Laureano + Perez or Whiteley. Throw Jennings in there if you need to.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 04:32 PM) What are you not getting? I understand that. I'm simply saying the clock at whatever value the Sox have is ticking. They cant play hard to get for the duration of his contract if they are indeed trying to trade him. Houston is obviously taking a risk with that horrid rotation. Look who the GM is though. It's obvious what he prefers to spend/trade and it's been that way for years. They have plenty of time. The Sox should take no less than what the got for Sale. Sale had 1 less year of control, and some character issues. Plus I think most everyone here thought the Sale trade was 1 good prospect light.

Random, but everyone listed as an OF on the active roster (Avi is listed as DH) is 6 feet or shorter. Looks more like my softball squad's OF than a MLB roster! Visit My Website

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 02:02 PM) May needs to upgrade the uni number. 1, 23, and 49 are available. 44 too. Looks like he is a fan of #1. Also #3, but that ain't happening. I hope he sticks with #64!!
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 12:01 PM) Neither Martes or Tucker is a good enough prospect on their own to headline a Quintana deal Fisher/Reed/Perez/Paulino/Whitley and Cameron are all either one or two tiers below Martes and Tucker as well I would not be motivated to move Quintana to the Astros for less than Martes + Tucker + Reed or Musgrove I think we all agree man.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 11:34 AM) A little surprised Luebke didn't make it as a second lefty, but it's a long season. Chances are he'll be one of the 25 pitchers the Sox use this season. Same. He was just a minors deal correct? Wonder if he has an opt out. A little surprised we're only going with 1 lefty.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 11:13 AM) Martes/Tucker/Reed/Fisher/Perez is what that dude seems to be proposing and I'd take that in a heartbeat. He says 1 of Martes or Tucker, asumming nothing coming back from Sox besides Q. So Martes or Tucker +3 of Fischer, Perez, Reed, Paulino, Whitley and Cameron.

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 09:58 AM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes now Bullpen battle down to Michael Ynoa, Anthony Swarzak, Dylan Covey and Zack Burdi. Juan Minaya is still in camp but injured. #WhiteSox Assuming Rodon starts on DL, 3 of the 4 of those have to make the squad no? 1 as the 5th starter, and 2 in the bullpen. So probably Ynoa (for sure), Covey and Swarzak. -
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 09:01 AM) Doubt anyone is following the first page anymore, so I'll post my updated predictions here. Catchers: Narvaez, Soto Infield: Abreu, Saladino, Frazier, Anderson, Sanchez (out of options), Davidson (out of options). Outfield: Cabrera, Liriano, A. Garcia, L. Garcia (also IF), Asche (also time at 1B and possibly 3B if needed). 1. Anderson SS 2. Saladino 2B 3. Abreu 1B 4. Cabrera LF 5. Frazier 3B 6. A. Garcia RF 7. Asche/Davidson DH 8. Narvaez C (Soto against lefties) 9. L. Garcia (May comes up early) Bench: Soto/Narvaez C Sanchez IF Davidson/Asche Liriano OF Starting Rotation: Quintana Shields Holland Gonzalez Covey (he can thank the Rodon injury) Bullpen: MR Luebke MR Ynoa MR Petricka MR Putnam SU Jennings SU Jones CL Robertson They keep all out-options guys in this scenario. Luebke optioned, so he's out. Only going to go with 1 lefty?

QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) Chicago White Sox @whitesox now The #WhiteSox also have reassigned left-handed pitchers Cory Luebke and Matt Purke to minor-league camp. Scott Merkin @scottmerkin now The White Sox have 34 players remaining in Major League camp: 15 pitchers, three catchers, 11 infielders and five outfielders. Luebke a bit of surprise. Going with only 1 lefty? -
QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Mar 28, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) Joke, believe they're playing along the "conspiracy rebuild" with only trading the pro-LaRoche crowd. Figured.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 11:17 PM) Had no idea that Bourjos supported LaRoche Link? Or is this s a joke?
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 12:40 PM) Asche is on a minor league contract, so the Sox have to make room for him on the 40-man. I know Asche has played well, but they can always get him up before the end of April too. If he makes it, it's not that big of a deal either, just that it's easier to control Asche than others who are out of options. Right, but the only one that really makes sense is Liriano. And he's been bad this spring, and Rabbit has said he Sox want to work with him down in AAA.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 11:55 AM) Maybe Leury or Sanchez. Or even Davidson. Nothing major. For the sole purpose of having an additional arm in the pen, and not risking losing one of those three off waivers?
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 11:51 AM) That would seem to be the roster, but I think there's a chance they'll make a minor trade that ends up with 3 on the bench and 8 in the pen. The starters really aren't that stretched out, and let's face it, not that good (besides Q). Going to be a lot of faux pitching injuries this year with the 10-day DL. I think you've mentioned this minor trade a few times that would result in a shorter bench and deeper pen. What are you thinking exactly?
