  1. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) Our system would be back to being razor thin though. Trout would hugely improve the White Sox the next four seasons, but unloading: Quintana, Moncada, Kopech, Giolito, Lopez, Dunning, Basabe and Diaz for one player would be absurd...even for Trout We would be giving up 6 seasons of control for most of those players Give me one or even two of Saunders, Alvarez, Moss, Lind, Valbuena, Howard or Morneau. They'll all be varying degrees of cheap and can be had on 1 year deals. Saunders pushing Melky to DH would be nice. Rasmus would be cool. Otherwise one of the other guys to DH would be fine. Valbuena to play 3B if Frazier is moved. If the Sox don't get an offer to their liking for Q, I could see an opening day roster line this: Anderson - SS Lawrie - 2B Abreu - 1B Frazier - 3B Melky - DH Saunders - LF Rasmus - CF Liriano / Avi - RF Narvaez / Some FA - C Q Rodon Shields Holland Covey for first two months then Fulmer, Giolito, Lopez That team would at least still be somewhat respectable. Sanders and Rasmus combined probably would cost somewhere between $15M-$20M.
  2. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 01:39 PM) The Angels had 74 wins in 2016, and 2017 is not looking any better That team won't compete against the Astros, Rangers or Mariners Totally agree. They're in a very, very, very bad spot.
  3. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 01:38 PM) With only two seasons of control? Give me the cheap prospect package for what the White Sox need right now Yes. Two years and $70M for Trout in 2 offseasons will be incredibly valuable.
  4. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 01:26 PM) I don't really see any realistic Trout trade where they end up with better value than Trout is currently providing though. Yah, I suppose for now they can continue to try to scrap together a competitive team around him, but at some point they have to realized that they're never going to be very good over the next 4 years with him. Blowing away his prime like they are is just sad.
  5. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 12:49 PM) That could be a recipe for even further disaster, overpaying past their prime players. Trading Trout would be a tough pill to swallow, but it might be necessary for the good of the franchise. Not sure which team would have enough to trade for him though? They pretty much have to trade Trout, IMO.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 11:25 AM) And the next few years will be loaded with players just like this. Dude, relax.
  7. QUOTE (shakes @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 11:18 AM) And the Sox have averaged 72 wins the last four years. Honestly, what is your point besides whining? If this rebuild would've started three years ago like it should have they could already be in that window of contention. Instead we got to try and count on players like Matt Latos, Jimmy Rollins, JB Shuck, Jacob Turner, Dioner Navarro, Matt Albers, Kyle Drabek, Gordon Beckham, Hector Noesi, Adam Laroche, John Danks, Jordan Danks, Scott Carroll, Gordon Beckham, Ronald Belisario, Andre Rienzo, Dylan Axelrod, Blake Tekotte's of the world to try and win. That was a fun time as a fan. Blake Tekotte. Forgot about him. By the way, all teams have filler.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 10:40 AM) After what we saw from his ML Debut, I don't think you could call him major league ready. While exciting, he still has some work to do before you can call him that. Bregman started 0-32. Moncada only had 20 PAs. Sample sizes are your friend. That said, I don't think he is ML ready yet, but his sip of coffee should have no bearing on anything.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 10:37 AM) If there is one thing that we have been taught in this off season is that the guys you are dreaming about aren't available. Realistically, who are you talking about? Moncada? Ya know...the #1 prospect in the game...
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) I personally don't think that offer is light at all. I just think Luhnow doesn't realize that in the modern MLB that you have to really go for it when you have a window and that sometimes means trading away quality prospects. Epstein most definitely overpaid for Chapman but it helped them get a ring. Can't be a major league GM and he afraid to make a move like that if you want to win a title. Plus, if there is ever a guy to trade away a prospect package for, its Quintana. Heck, you get 4 years of PROVEN top of the rotation pitching at the going rate for a over the hill #5 these days. If your prospect hits, pretty much best case scenario is you get 4 years of top of the rotation / middle of the order production. You could pretty much view Quintana as a prospect you know will hit due to his control.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 03:21 PM) That is pretty insane honestly. That is a pretty terrible return for a front line starter. Yah, I don't think that offer was ever something Rick was going to accept in December.
  12. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 02:52 PM) http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2016/12/27/lev...-jose-quintana/ Take it for what it's worth. Kinda random names to throw around.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 01:56 PM) You spent the last 10 years trying to get back on to Soxtalk after getting banned originally. That's right, 10 years. You are here for a week, and are already calling people retards, and talking about people who have no life. Apparently you didn't figure out how to stay on Soxtalk during those 10 years. Please boot him again. Adds nothing.
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 11:54 AM) Keep in mind, BN is Kenny's mouthpiece too. It'll be interesting to see who breaks news since Rosenthal won't be tweeting for a bit. Rosenthal take a vaca or what?
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) If we were to take on those guys, I would want their entire top 5. To start with. Yah, but that's not going to happen. I'd take one for sure. Both seems like a huge stretch.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 11:46 AM) The Sox should take both of them and clean out the Yankees system. Eh. If they were one year deals, I'd agree. BOth are signed through 2018. Would add $25M to the payroll both this year and next. That is quite a lot to swallow, and would definitely affect the Sox chances of competing in 2018 if a bunch of stuff went right this season with prospect development.
  17. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) This offseason is f***ing exhausting. The Sox FO is so incredibly predictable with the way they go about their business. How so?
  18. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 26, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) Its worth taking a bit less of a price than TOTAL FLEECING and just dealing Quintana now to avoid being burned by the ever-present threats (even in the case of Mr Consistent himself) of ineffectiveness or injury. Could you imagine if Q busts his shoulder in May for a terrible Sox team and getting basically nothing in return for him? This isn't an argument to give him away, but it is an argument to be a little more flexible on the asking price. Eh, disagree. Sox can afford to be patient with Q due to his control. The guy has never been hurt and has an incredibly easy and clean motion. Sure, he could get hurt - anyone can - but you don't take a lesser deal in the December or January prior to 4 more years on cheap control due to that. Rick has said this will take some time. Get what you want or hold onto him until you do. I am confident he will do that.
  19. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 25, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) Unless a team comes out of nowhere to offer up a bounty for Robertson, I think the plan is to hope he put he's well and then deal him for a haul in July. Same goes for Jones. If those two stay healthy and pitch well, they should fetch some very nice returns in July. That said, if the Mets offered Nimmo for Robertson I'd jump all over it. I don't think Jones and Robo are valued remotely close to one another by the Sox. I think the Sox would move Jones, but only for a Ken Giles top return including an elite prospect and at least 1 more top 100 type.
  20. Welp. Things seem to have come to a screeching halt. Really thought something was going to happen this afternoon, even though the McCutchen part never made sense to me. I have no doubt several teams are trying for Q. Still really want Meadows. Is be fine with a lesser package like Meadows, Keller and Diaz to make sure we get Meadows. Basically take one less piece with the third piece also being a little less exciting.
  21. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) Going off the original tweet of raBBit and WSD, I think a package of Glasnow, Newman, Rutherford, and Andujar would make sense for Q. Cutch to NYY doesn't make sense tho. They're probably more interested in Quintana or Glasnow / Keller.
  22. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 01:09 PM) Would the Yankees be interested in Glasnow? Certainly. But just seems like the Sox and Pitt wouldn't need NYY. But maybe you're onto something and Glasnow goes to NYY for a Frazier, Torres, Rutherford type who then goes to Sox as centerpiece instead of Glasnow. Allows Pitt to keep Meadows and Bell, and Cutch too. Then perhaps Sox get Newman and Keller from Pitt. That seems to make the most sense since NYY needs pitching. That said, my guess is Cashman would prefer to trade for Q directly, rather than Glasnow which sends Q to Pitt. Definitely an interesting possibility that makes more sense than the Cutch to Nyy talk.
  23. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) I've always banged the "trade pitching for hitting drum" but this is getting ridiculous IMO. Can we also look for a young catcher? I want Collins at 1B because I don't want him worn down from catching. We have the #2 catching prospect In the game. Let's give him time to develop as such.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 11:41 AM) You're right, if it isn't on twitter, it isn't official. Why did you want to punch me in the face on twitter because of something I posted here that had zero to do with you? Why didn't you post something here that you wanted to punch me in the face? If rabbit or Kyle want to call me a dick, what do I care? They wouldn't know me if I standing right in front of them. But you are the guy that posted for all to see you wanted to punch me in the face on twitter for something I posted here. I was alerted to it. I don't follow you at all, although I did give you credit for things you did break. You are an internet tough guy. I read some of the stuff, and you want to punch a lot of people. I would love to get it on youtube because I am sure you would miss. Dude just stop. Most people here would love his insights and tid bits, I can assure you very few care to read your back and forth bickering. Let it go.
