  1. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) I think you meant to say Judge here, but why? He's extremely likely to bust with his alarmingly high K rate and huge body that likely won't hold up. Think Adam Dunn, but with more Ks. I'd rather have Andujar, and I think he'll be the more successful player long term, despite his not being as highly rated as a prospect. Because he's the third piece. I don't love him, but we have space for a ML ready OF, and he has a bunch of upside. If we could get Rutherford instead of Judge, but still get Torres and Frazier, I'd prefer that, but I doubt that is going to happen.
  2. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 12:38 PM) Interestingly, at this particular Yankees fans' blog/website, the author of this article thinks the fair package for someone of Quintana's caliber would be "two of Jorge Mateo, Clint Frazier, Blake Rutherford, and Gleyber Torres; one of James Kaprielian, Aaron Judge, Justus Sheffield, and someone lower like Tyler Wade, Dustin Fowler, or Domingo Acevedo." He goes onto warn the Yankee fans about "prospect hugging", and does a rather credible job of describing what a great pitcher Q is. Thoughtful and fair analysis, I think! http://www.pinstripealley.com/2016/12/20/1...ford-sale-eaton Frazier, Torres, Judge, and Fowler would get me giddy.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 11:14 AM) If no team wanted him with the Phillies offering to pay almost all of his remaining deal last year, no one will want him next year. A minor league deal? Or a $1M deal? Who cares? Why not?
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 08:35 AM) That dude is cooked. He needs to retire. He hit 25 home runs in 330 ABs last year. He'll be cheap. He wouldn't be my first option, but I wouldn't hate it either.
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 11:03 AM) I would absolutely take Greg Holland off the market. Granted if it were between us and a contending team, he'd likely go there. Edit: unless of course, we offered a few million more which we can do. Yah. Also would like to see Rasmus, or even Revere.
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 10:59 AM) I honestly don't really see anyone else moving to be honest. Maybe Quintana if they get an offer they like but that's about it. Everyone else potentially in July or next off-season. Yah, I don't know. Wouldn't be surprised either way. I would like to see them sign some guys to 1 year deals though if they don't plan to continue to subtract.
  7. I wouldn't mind the Sox taking a flyer on Richie Schaffer who was DFA to make space. If he makes it through the NL, not a terrible waiver claim. Especially if the Sox plan to move more guys.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 10:30 AM) From this board. In Houston we are talking Tucker. NY outside of Frazier and Sheffield (whom I'd bet anything NY will not trade in regards to JS) is Torres/Mateo, Rockies is Rodgers. If we want near ready position players they look a lot more like Judge, whom the board is terrified of. Gotcha. I thought you were referring to actual sources.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) Virtually every trade package has the White Sox taking 19 year olds as headliners. We are going to get more risk in a Quintana trade, but the MLB has just seen a huge graduation of players last year so that should be expected. Let's just trust our scouts. If we get Torres, I'd feel thrilled. Where are you seeing this?
  10. I remember the Sox being pretty high on Winarski as a possible late inning reliever a couple years ago. Saw he was awful last year.
  11. I think Shields will bounce back decently next year. 29 starts 9-12 185 IP 157 K 80 BB 4.13 ERA Not too shabby for a 4/5 guy.
  12. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 04:28 PM) .500 by June first would mean that everything possible goes right for the White Sox You're asking a ton of Gonzalez, Shields and Holland plus the bullpen. The offense could be better if Abreu and Frazier get hot, Anderson and Melky hit, but Avi and catcher will likely be black holes I actually think Liriano will play quite a bit in RF. I expect they to sign a Catcher, but yah, the production there will be bad, as it is on most teams. Its a total what if game. Trading Q makes this pitching staff pretty bad, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's moved still. I expect Giolito and Lopez to be in the rotation by mid June regardless. At the end of the day, I expect at least a few more subtractions from this team before all is said and done.
  13. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 04:09 PM) The White Sox roster in 2016 played downright horrific baseball for the last four and a half months of the season. That roster has since subtracted Chris Sale and Adam Eaton. So I'm not sure how it would work now where a simple "plug" in CF and DH would raise this now Sale-less and Eaton-less roster to anywhere remotely approaching "respectable". I expect better seasons from Frazier and Abreu. I expect Rodon to take a big step forward. I expect Shields to be less of a pumpkin. I don't think they'll be good, but I don't think it is that crazy that this team could be around .500 June 1 adding a Colby Rasmus, and a DH (there are plenty of options). I don't think its likely, but its possible.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) It seems like you can say that about a lot of guys as it seems quite a few have no market (Melky, Frazier, D-Rob). Which again means that if Q is not traded and the Sox plug a couple holes (CF and DH), they actually will have a somewhat respectable roster on opening day
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 01:42 PM) We do have that propensity for HoF or borderline guys at the end of their careers. Kind of Sox tradition. And, speaking of the Phils or ex-Phils, there's always Domonic Brown. Is he still with the Jays? At least he's "only" 29 still. Or perhaps trading a young (prospect) pitcher for Odubel Herrera? The problem is they just gave him an Eaton contract, so they look at him as part of their new core going forward. Lol, they're not trading a dude they extended like 3 days ago.
  16. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 02:19 PM) You're either trolling, on some really good s***, or very stupid. Lol, well done.
  17. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 10:38 AM) Jones would be able to bring a return similar to Tyler Thornburg I'd imagine? I would think more. Nate is controlled 1 extra year, with an additional mutual option year. And he'll be cheaper on an AAV-basis over that time, especially if Thornburg continues to pitch well.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 17, 2016 -> 11:12 AM) Scott MerkinVerified account ‏@scottmerkin White Sox agree to terms on a one-year, $10.825-million contract with first baseman Jose Abreu, avoiding arbitration $225k more than he would have gotten had he not opted out. So much for that being a big deal. Jose remains a huge bargain and a very valuable asset.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 02:56 PM) The basic problem with Quintana being on that list is playing time. Like it or not, if you count Kopech, Giolito, Lopez, Rodon, and Fulmer - right there you have 5 starting pitchers, at least 4 of whom should be in your rotation at some point next year, and if they're not it's a failure of development because 4 of them have already made big league appearances. Add in Gonzalez and Holland, and the fact that like it or not Shields has to get some starts to see if he can salvage his career, and there simply isn't enough room for what we already have in the organization. You can wait on Quintana to the trade deadline and that's a way of keeping some guys in AAA longer, but we need 3 rotation slots available this year and more in 2018, and you're not going to pitch a 6 man rotation unless rosters expand. Someone has to go. These things have a way of sorting themselves out. Plus, I see almost no scenario that Giolito, Lopez or Fulmer make a start prior to June 1. They don't need rotation spots going into the year. Kopech will spent the vast majority of the season in the minors. Best case he gets a September call up, or is pitching so well Sox have no choice but to promote him.
  20. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 11:22 AM) Stark on Blackmon: Jayson StarkVerified account ‏@jaysonst Teams that spoke to the Rockies seem doubtful Charlie Blackmon gets traded: "They're only trading him if they get an Adam Eaton type deal." Well that would certainly give the Sox a few more toys to play with in a Q to Rockies trade.
  21. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 11:01 AM) The lesson we have learned from trades is that teams are largely unwilling to part with players that impact their immediate mlb rosters (Bregman, Turner, Swanson, Benintendi, etc.), but are willing to part with prospects that are not mlb ready right now (Moncada, Kopech, Giolito, Lopez, Dunning, Basabe, Diaz). It makes sense because subtracting a bat from the mlb roster creates another hole to fill. Rodgers should very much be on the table in trade talks though Moncada, Giolito, and Lopez are about as close to MLB ready as prospects get. Moncada could use a couple months in AAA, and they will all get it, but any of these guys could easily open in the bigs, and likely would on most MLB rosters.
  22. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 10:49 AM) Rockies won't be parting with Dahl. He is under team control until after 2022 and will be a corner OF fixture for them Rodgers I could see them parting with as he is unlikely to make the big league until halfway through 2018 at the earliest. He'll likely start the season at high A Lancaster and spend the majority of the season there, possibly getting called up to AA later in the season. That makes him more expendable because he won't impact the mlb roster anytime soon, plus their infield is loaded with talent. Hah, ok. Heard the same thing about Moncada. The Rockies can probably make a deal without including Dahl, but when you're the Rockies, and you have the chance to acquire a TOR pitcher locked up 4 years at what you pay a #5 these days, no one is off limits.
  23. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 10:10 AM) Dahl is their starting left fielder in 2017, he is not going to be traded A deal would be centered around Rodgers who is several years away I don't think the Rox want to trade Dahl, but they're idiots if they plan to play Desmond at 1B. And in order for him to go to the OF, they need to trade either Dahl, Gonzalez or Blackmon. And they badly need pitching. I can guarantee you Hahn is asking for Dahl.
  24. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 10:02 AM) Yeah while I'm confident they want to rebuild, what if the guys that are here now actually play good enough to compete? Guys who are already here but expected to be dealt plus whoever they add for sign-and-flip candidates on one year deals? And then the guys we call up make an immediate impact? Do they just abandon the rebuild? I don't think they'll abandon the rebuild. I don't think the Sox are going to be disappointed if they somehow compete this year. You can rebuild without losing 100 games. The Sox went from around the 25th best farm to around the 5th best farm in 24 hours. They've already completely changed the complexion of this roster moving forward.
  25. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 09:49 AM) I am not feeling the McMahon love at all Striking out at a 30% rate in AA and only batting .242 is very concerning to me. Major league pitchers tend to eat high strikeout players alive. He is blocked by Arenado, but I'm not sure he is the answer in a trade. This is a make or break season for him. But if he is the fourth piece after Dahl, Rodgers, and Murphy - sign me up.
