  1. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) No, Urias is under control for 6 years I believe, a lot more team friendly situation even compared to Q. If I'm being honest with myself, I'd ask what is my biggest need right now if I'm the Dodgers. They probably need a 2 or a 3 right now, which they have the cash to go sign without losing a top prospect. They just need Urias to fill in as the 4th and 5th starter next season and soon enough he'll grow into that 2/3 they're missing. And if I'm rebuilding the Sox, I'd definitely take Urias for Q straight up. I am glad you're not the GM.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 08:25 AM) I used to be a huge pro-Hahn guy, but the Rollins/Latos/Navarro signings as starters on a "contender" were pretty horrible. Part of me thinks/hopes that KW was behind those moves. Hard to get too upset over signing three guys for a combined ~$7M. None were great signings, but they also weren't the Sox problem. I also think Rollins played a huge role in mentoring Anderson, which was well worth the $1M they paid him.
  3. I haven't watched a full game in a couple weeks. Probably the first time I can say that in season in over a decade. Interest is at an all time low for me - but I still love my Sox, catch a few innings here and there, and always watch the highlights. Can't wait to see what this winter brings.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 03:01 PM) I'd rather they hire the right guy. Hell Ventura was young. So was Ozzie. I made it pretty clear that I'd be fine if they went outside of the organization. If they do, I just prefer it to be a younger guy. Kepler would be great. Even though they aren't necessarily fully out of the organization, Dave Martinez or Sandy Alomar would be cool with me. I'd also like to see someone with some fire. The Sox have been some damn boring the last few years.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 10:59 AM) For a manager, there is no such thing as "long" term. 10 years for any manager is a minor miracle. Their shelf life is typically 3 to 5 years anymore. Meh. If you hire a young guy, and it works out there is at least a chance of that. Hiring some old guy who would rather be sipping drinks on a beach somewhere in a few years isn't what the Sox need.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) You'd rather have AJ Pierzynski - with zero managerial experience - over a proven manager like Ron Washington? I would. I realize I may be in the minority, but I am just not into old tired managers. Ron Washington is 65 years old. This would most likely be his final job. I just don't see it as a good long term decision. Give me someone with some fire.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Sep 23, 2016 -> 09:48 AM) Would you be willing to hire another former Sox player that doesn't have any managerial experience whatsoever? I love A.J., but making him the manager would feel like Robin Ventura 2.0 to me. I don't see him being any better than Robin if he were to manage the team next year. If it's AJ, yah. I like Robin, seems like a top notch guy - but the dude was coaching HS baseball and had to be talked into the job. He is a dud personality wise. He has no fire. AJ would be fantastic. Having been a catcher, he's been a game manager for the past 18+ years in the big leagues. He has that fire that I think the Sox badly need. Wouldn't be scared to shake things up, or a put a player back in his place. I think the guys would play hard for AJ. Would there be some bumps? Probably, but I'd rather watch that than some old hag who will be out the door again in a year or two. THat said, I realize AJ is a complete long shot, and will respect the Sox decision if they go outside the organization. I really liked the Gabe Kepler suggestion earlier in this thread.
  8. I would be pretty disappointed if it is Rick Renteria or some other old retread (Gardenhire, Washington, etc.). I am not against the Sox going away from hiring old players with no management experience, but its hard not to like the idea of AJ. I think he will be a great manager some day. He'd certainly spice things up.
  9. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Sep 15, 2016 -> 03:56 PM) I thought it was weird right after the trade that the Padres tweeted out "no tradebacks", like they knew he was damaged goods. Wait, they did?
  10. Adam is great. However, if they do trade Sale and/or Q this winter, I'd be in support of moving Adam. The dude's value shouldn't be much lower than those two, in all honesty. He's really f'in good. That said, I hope they don't trade him - he's by far my favorite player.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) Who was their ace? and if instant more success is instead of going 63-99 then jumping to possibly winning 70-72 games(currently at 64-81), then i guess the white sox are on this "instant more success" track The Phillies did pretty well in that trade. Jared Eickhoff is already a mid-rotation arm. Jake Thompson, while he struggled this year in majors, has the chance to be a top of the rotiation arm. Two top 100 prospects, one of which is catcher, plus another arm. Not a bad deal for the Phillies.
  12. QUOTE (bjm676 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 01:04 PM) This will be a big test for new manager Aaron Rowand/AJ Pierzynski/Jim Thome I'd love to see AJ as the manager.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 01:02 PM) He has played the OF on three different occasions this season. For a grand total of 4 innings. The dude isn't an OF.
  14. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 12:43 PM) Again fowler is not a guarantee free agent. How do you get 15-20 million. Fowler if becomes availabile would be about 10-15 by himself a year. Hes getting 8 now and would be 9 if he stays. Since hes upped his value and if he did become a free agent hes getting a nice chunk especially since boras is his agent. Weiters probably going to be 10 million ish. And again they will both probably cost a pick which the sox dont seem to want to give up. Moreland could be some nice change. Also we thought the sox bullpen would be improved this year especially with jones coming back full time but ended up blowing 9 games sofar. Bullpens are fickle and you can not guarantee they will be better next year. Cant buy your logic. Fowler also reportedly turned down more $ from the Sox and took less with the Cubs last year. I don't think he's a realistic option at anything short of $15M+ AAV for 3-4 years.
  15. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) No hints other than the feel that Sale is gone. You're probably right about Valencia. Haven't followed that closely. I disagree that the Sox would be wasting money in this scenario. Buying players to potentially sell them is smart if you're not going to buy to go for it. I was probably light on what Reddick gets but I like him as a defensive player with a LH bat who doesn't cost us a pick. "Wasting money" on Johnson isn't really a thing. 3 mil is nothing in the MLB. I'd like to have some veteran pieces round out the roster so we could develop our depth in the minors. If the any minor league pushes for a spot, someone like Johnson could be moved or released if need be. For sure, the comment was moreso directed at Reddick than the veteran filler pieces. I think it is a legitimate possibility that Reddick gets a 4 or 5 year deal close to $18M AAV. There are literally so few quality FA OF's that Reddick may be the one of the most sought after ones (Bautista, Desmond, Rasmus, Beltran, Trumbo are the cream of the crop), and then it falls off a cliff. And the majority of the guys just listed have major warts. Reddick is going to have serious market and get vastly overpaid, IMO.
  16. QUOTE (zisk @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) why not let Saladino play center field for the rest of the season ? Because he's not an OF and he's doing just fine at 2B? Last time Saladino played the OF, he tore his UCL and needed Tommy John.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 14, 2016 -> 11:19 AM) Trade Sale and Melky Cabrera to BoSox for CF Benintendi, C Blake Swihart, SP Eduardo Rodriguez, 3B Rafael Devers, 1B Josh Ockimey and LHP Brian Johnson. Trade Lawrie for a minor leaguer. Trade Coats and Jennings for Danny Valencia. Sign Josh Reddick 3 years 42 million Sign Kelly Johnson 1 year 3 million Sign Brett Cecil 3 years 14 million Sign Eric O'Flaherty 1 year 3 million 1.) L - RF Eaton - locked down for years 2.) R - DH/1B Valencia - needed OBP/power punch at DH 3.) L - CF Benintendi - Cornerstone CF 4.) R - 1B Abreu 5.) L - LF Reddick - Buy low free agents op could be traded 6.) R - 3B Frazier - Trade in July assuming team falters 7.) R - SS Anderson - Corner stone SS 8.) S/L - C Swihart/Narvaez - Catcher of the future 9.) R/L - 2B Saladino/Johnson - Let Saladino show what he has with some LH power behind him in case. Bench: C Narvaez, OF Tilson, INF Kelly Johnson, INF Sanchez 1.) Quintana 2.) Rodon 3.) Rodriguez 4.) Gonzalez 5.) Shields CP Robertson SU Jones SU Cecil MR O'Flaherty MR Putnam MR Petricka MR Ynoa/Kahnle Rabbit, Nice post. Couple comments/questions: -While the Sale package is alright, I'd definitely like to see Kopech added to it. I don't know how excited I'd be if thats what they got for Sale, I don't necessarily see that as a franchise altering return, which I think is what you need. But ultimately, who knows if anyone will pay that price. Don't see why Melky would need to be included in that trade. While he gets paid about what he's worth, I have to imagine he has some value. I wouldn't mind keeping him around for next year - if he has another year like this year, you'd probably be able to get something decent for him at the deadline. -Valencia is going to non-tendered. There is even some talk of him being released this month. No point is giving up assets for him, especially Dan Jennings who has been a very nice piece out of the bullpen this year. -You really think Reddick is only going to get 3 years and $42M? I'd be all aboard that train if that's all he's getting, but I find that very hard to believe. -I have reservations about a C that has been moved away from the position anchoring that position for the next decade (assuming Collins ends up at 1B/DH). I'd take Swihart in a deal, but not as one of the main pieces. All in all, this would make for an interesting off season. The Sox would still obviously be straddling rebuilding and retooling. While that team probably doesn't sniff the playoffs, its not a complete pipe dream that it'd be around .500 come July. At that point, you never know. I'd just like to see the Sox take a more definitive direction; keep Sale and add some meaningful players, or just tear it down and don't waste money on Reddick/mediocre relievers/Kelly Johnson.
  18. I have come to the realization that the Sox will probably trade off a bunch of their guys this offseason, but I will put together my pie in the sky lineup anyway. Eaton - TG Anderson - SS Yoenis Cespedes - LF (3 years; $82M - $22/$30/$30 with opt out after year 1) Abreu - 1B Frazier - 3B Cabrera - DH Wilson Ramos - C (4 years; $65M) Carlos Gomez - CF (1 year; $7M) Lawrie - 2B Rotation: Sale Quintana Rodon Fulmer Gonzalez BN: Saladino - Super sub Tilson - OF Narvaez - C Leury Garcia - Super Sub Bullpen: David Robertson Nate Jones Jake Petricka Zach Putnam Dan Jennings Zack Burdi Some LHP
  19. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 03:44 PM) OK I am a Sox fan and think I know the minors to some degree but until this weekend I thought he was the guy they picked up from the Astros earlier this year. Why does anyone think he does not have a viable future? He seems to do things decently enough and does not have any glaring weaknesses and is only 24. He has no pop but he walks some and doesn't strikeout all that often. His MiLB stats are not much off of what he doing currently..... He seems rather overlooked if you ask me. The bolded in a little debatable, but I agree with Omar has been a pleasant surprise. I hope he gets the majority of the starts the rest of the year, and I'd be perfectly fine with him as the backup next year.
  20. Thoughts and prayers are with you. I could not imagine.
  21. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 8, 2016 -> 01:12 PM) I agree about the ceiling. I don't think we're going to be able to do much better than the packages Cameron threw around at the deadline (Moncada/Kopech/B prospect, Benintendi/Devers/B Prospect, or Urias/Verdugo/B Prospect). Could get one big piece, but I'm doubtful that two big pieces are going to happen (ie: Moncada and Benintendi together). I just don't think those packages are worth trading Sale for.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 06:58 PM) I wonder what kind of person Jose is. Salt of the earth? Good guy? Lazy? A dick? I know nothing about him. He's obviously having one helluva year thanks to his second-half tear (when we were out of the race). He's an all star right now. I'm not blasting him, just curious if he's one of the top five hitters in the AL or what we've got here?? Watch more baseball.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) Logic dictates trading Sale and Eaton. Sale will bring back a higher return, and we have Q for one more year and he seems to have the better likelihood of being healthy in 2019-2020. That said, you never know. Eaton, because he's at peak value, probably can't get any better than this, and is an elevated injury risk. Trading Abreu won't get you a bigger return because he's limited more to AL teams who would prefer to DH him...and he doesn't look like a tremendous bargain when you consider his arbitration status/escalating salary. Finally, it's a lot harder to sign or trade for a true impact bat than it is find a combination of good hitter and fielder (of course, not easy either). With Heyward and Gordon showing the danger of overpaying for defense, though, it feels right to trade the guy who been Top 10-12 in war nearly all season long. And you have to really hit one of those two deals on the head...you can't miss on both. I think Abreu gets a huge return if the Sox want to move him. He's clearly figured it out and remains and enormous bargain, even as a DH.
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 7, 2016 -> 01:49 PM) Rebuilding means trading from your core, so guys like Sale, Quintana, Abreu, Eaton, Rodon, Anderson, & Jones. Trading a bunch of guys a year from free agency and coming off poor seasons is definitely not rebuilding. Instead of arguing semantics, explain how such a strategy (deal the complimentary pieces) gets us closer to the playoffs or helps us achieve sustainable success. You don't trade Rodon and Anderson in a rebuild. Those are the types of guys you want to acquire, not trade away. The rest...sure. Though I'd still have really tough time trading Eaton and Abreu. I'd want packages just a tad under what I'd want for Q for those two.
