  1. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) It may not take that much in talent, as Lucroy will be a free agent after next season, and the Brewers are reportedly shopping him. However, they would want young talent in return. The key may be that they are eager to move Braun's salary. I've been advocating taking both of them, and all of the salary, which could mitigate the need to give up much talent. Although Braun would be an overpay, and a long term commitment, Lucroy's very affordable contract would make a package of both very intriguing. You put Braun in the outfield, Lucroy behind the plate and Morneau at DH and you have transformed this anemic offense into an impressive lineup. Braun and Lucroy would require Fulmer and Anderson, plus. It ain't happening.
  2. While I agree the Sox catchers have been pretty terrible, its a funny day to post this after Avila goes 4/5. At least his bat is coming around - man was he terrible the first 2 months of the year.
  3. QUOTE (bjm676 @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) Matt Purke and Chris Beck should be well rested for today's game. Crazy, but Matt Purke has not appeared in a game the Sox have won. 8 appearances, 8 losses.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 10:01 AM) wtf are you even arguing anymore Caulfield. Do you know? He just likes to hear himself type.
  5. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) Is there a stat out there that shows the team win/loss record for a particular pitcher's start? Like say a pitcher made 33 starts in a season. What was the team's win/loss record for those 33 games? Or is that something you would have to calculate by hand? I'm just curious how that stat would look for Quintana compared to other top-tier starters. Yes.
  6. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 01:12 PM) Rodriguez was the prospect Boston got back in the late season deal of Andrew Miller to Orioles a few years ago. Very talented but can be good or bad. Former top 50 guy, IIRC.
  7. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) Still no Saladino. He's now 5th infielder. He's so out of here in the next Hahn trade for a dogmeat veteran. Who exactly would you prefer to see him play over?
  8. QUOTE (smalls2598 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 03:09 PM) 1. Tim Anderson ® SS 2. Adam Eaton (L) RF 3. Jose Abreu ® 1B 4. Melky Cabrera (S) LF 5. Todd Frazier ® 3B 6. Brett Lawrie ® 2B 7. Dioner Navarro (S) C 8. Avisail Garcia ® DH 9. J.B. Shuck (L) CF Anyone know what Bourgeois defense is like in CF? Obviously he is not a long term solution, but I wouldn't mind throwing him out there and seeing how he does right now. Seems to fit the roster better than Coats at this given moment.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) I agree. I dropped it without comment, but it was pointless. I will say, give Sale enough time, he'll always say something on the dumb side, or cringeworthy. Not sure if it's what you're insinuating, but I don't think Sale said anything dumb in that article. The man wants to pitch in the playoffs. Can you blame him? I want to watch him pitch in the playoffs. It'd be a thing of beauty. Think Bumgarner last year but even more dominant. I hope he gets that opportunity in a Sox uni.

That's a pretty bad list. Over half of the negatives weren't really negatives at all, were washes, or were just overall meh moves for very little $. Also several moves the jury is still out. Besides Semien, he hasn't given up much talent, and I happen to think Trayce will coming crashing back to earth before too long.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 01:11 PM) As in, the actual Cy Young award voted on by the people who have votes that count, or another Cy Young award winner? Because there would be no way he would win the actual Cy Young if the season ended now. Meh. He'd be close. Top 3 or 4 in voting for sure. The lack of wins doesn't help, but if he were 8-2 or something, he would definitely be the leader in the clubhouse.
  12. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) Definitely Rodon and Anderson. And I'd probably add Quintana to that list. He's very cheap for a #2 and under team control through 2020. He's also under-valued to the point where I don't think that trading him would net a fair return. I wouldn't say that Eaton is untouchable, but I'd strongly prefer to build around him and a GM would really have to overwhelm me to get him. Jose Quintana is a #1 on most teams.
  13. Sale isn't getting traded. BUT....if he were, its going to take Betts, Moncada, Benentendi/Devers and 2 of Rodriguez, Espinoza, Swihart or other top ~8 guys in their farm. Which is why he won't be traded.
  14. QUOTE (CB2.0 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 03:16 PM) Believe it or not, he's over a 1/2 million negative value right now per Fangraphs: http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playe...sition=1B#value If anything is massive, it's his DROP OFF in value from his previous 2 years. He is still massively valuable, despite what his number look like right now.
  15. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) Why not? Admit you made a mistake and move on. Also, for everyone who suggests "no team would take Shields," what does it say that we took him? It was a terrible move from the beginning. Nearly every move made last offseason and extending into this season has been terrible Because the man has made three starts. He's been terrible, no doubt, but he clearly isnt this bad. He must be hurt, or tipping his pitches, or both. We all know his confidence is in the s***ter. I'd say give him another start or two, if they're terrible DL him for 15 days, and let him make a couple rehab starts. I expect Shields to be a solid 4/5 for the Sox at some point, but the man needs a breather or something. Cutting him and eating $30M after 3 starts would not be a wise move.
  16. QUOTE (Charlie Haeger's Knuckles @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 01:45 PM) How many more one-inning/nine-run starts does Shields get before the Sox pull the plug? They aren't pulling the plug, but a trip to the DL is probably in order if he puts up another stinker.
  17. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 01:15 PM) Yeah he just goes off the 40. That's all him being waived is. Boston is better off holding onto him and seeing if he can turn it around off of the 40 man roster. If they wanted him off the 40 man, they probably don't want him at all. That said, yes, it would make more sense for them to just see if he can figure it out since at most they'll recoup a few million bucks.
  18. QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 12:19 PM) Guys i'd trade if the pain don't stop: Sale, Robertson, Melky, Jones Guys I hold on to for dear life: Q, Rodon, Eaton Guys with low trade value: Abreu, Frazier You could completely rebuild the farm by trading those 4 guys and still have a few nice core pieces. All those guys in the 2 group are around til 2020 at least so you can build around them. Not saying its the best plan but its better that 76-80 wins a season for the next 5 years or a $150MM payroll and 85-88 wins over the same span. Jose Abreu does not have "low trade value". It wasn't what it was a year ago, but the dude is still massively valuable. He's also not getting traded.
  19. QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 01:13 PM) Robertson and Melky won't get you much, but both are capable players, and teams need OF/DH and relievers. You can get real actual prospects, but probably not top 100 guys. Navarro, Shields, etc are more likely to be released than traded. You could definitely get something of value for Melky and Robertson, but like you said, nothing that exciting. But, lets be real, the Sox aren't selling. If they do, it will be in the offseason.
  20. I'd definitely be interested if the Red Sox ate 95% of his contract.
  21. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 05:09 PM) Did you break your keyboard with this post? You actually read his posts?
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 06:52 PM) Danks is retiring? Haven't heard anything about him at all for about a month. Guess he's hanging out in Nashville. He is a very wealthy man. Probably will never work another day in his life. Good for him - loved me some Johnny Danks.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 16, 2016 -> 10:42 AM) Gordon's an 80 speed guy, Tim's a 65. Not the best comp. I think Anderson's got a bit more pop too. Tim is more of a 70. I agree it's not perfect, but best I could come up with off the top of my head.
