  1. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) If the Sox did sign Morneau, they would probably have the best 2010 roster in baseball. Not really. Outside of Rollins, no one else the team was really relevant in 2010 in the bigs...maybe Melky. Also just so happened to be Melky's worst year of his career.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jun 8, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) Austin Jackson has actually come around some statistically. Bravo. The guy that hasn't played in almost 2 weeks? haha
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:21 PM) Of course, Chris Carter had 5 RBI's tonight and now has 16 and 39. Trayce Thompson has been hitting 3rd and now 5th for the Dodgers the last two nights. Marcus Semien has a 743 OPS for the A's, which would be 770-780ish in a favorable hitting environment. But we do have that draft pick instead of Semien AND Desmond. This post made me LOL.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 10:05 PM) If they trade Tim Anderson for anyone at this point, that's the very last straw. The last straw for what? You making 100 posts a day on a White Sox board? That said, I hope they don't trade Tim Anderson, and highly doubt that they will.
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 04:10 PM) As I stated above, I think we would receive compensation from the Padres if he opts out. Think that's what he meant. I get it - my point is that if Rick were wrong about that I'd be blown away.
  6. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 04:04 PM) Praise the lord. It actually happened. I never want to see Sands again. I don't like Shuck over Coats though unless Jackson is still out for awhile. Jackson is in the lineup today.
  7. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 04:04 PM) Random thought, but I totally see Jonathan Lucroy on the White Sox by the end of the month. I really hope not. I mean I like Lucroy as a player and all, and the Sox could definitely use an upgrade there. But he is going to be expensive to acquire prospect-wise, and you only get him for 1.5 years. Not to mention, he is perhaps one concussion away from not catching again and hes injury prone to begin with. I'd be for it if he was relatively cheap (no Anderson or Fulmer), but I'd be super hesitant to give one of those guys up for 200 games of control of Lucroy.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 04:06 PM) The CBA states that to be eligible to receive a qualifying offer a player must have been with the same Club at the major or minor league level since Opening Day of the last completed season. Ergo, the Sox could not offer him a qualifying offer. Thats what I thought, but I'd be pretty blown away if Rick said they would get a pick if he opts out and was wrong about that. Admittedly, I haven't seen or heard that quote - just read it here.
  9. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) Agreed, but not knowing how FA compensation works would be a pretty damning thing. Knowing the basic rules of roster management should be step 1 for being a GM. Honestly, I didn't read your post completely. Didn't realize Hahn said that. Due to the opt out clause, they must get the comp pick if he does chose to opt out. More reason why he won't do it.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 04:02 PM) Though I will say that I would expect with Gonzalez at the back of the pen, that Purke goes back to Charlotte for another position player (Sanchez is my guess) soon. Jon Jay would have been nice to have on this roster instead of Shuck. I wonder what the Pads were asking for, as I am sure Hahn inquired.
  11. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 03:54 PM) So are the Sox now carrying an extra bullpen arm? Yes.
  12. QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 03:53 PM) Would the Sox receive a draft pick if Shields were to opt? I know the answer with most players who are traded mid-season is no, but is there a loophole in the rules for players with an opt-out? I just assumed the answer would be no, but Hahn specifically saying they'd receive a compensation pick if Shields opts out and leaves has me wondering. There is no way the White Sox don't understand how the compensation rules work, right? That would be a pretty damning incitement on the organization if they don't know a basic rule most people on here are aware of. I don't think so, but he'd be DAMNED FOOL to opt out.
  13. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 02:38 PM) Which is why, as I told an earlier poster, I'll let the results on the field and the front office moves do the talking from that perspective from now on. That should make a segment of the readers happy. So it's win / win for all! Mark Cool - we'll see how long that lasts.
  14. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) Talk about a Cubs fan mentality Are you referring to me? I am taking on a Cubs fan mentality because I haven't given up on the Sox on June 7th when they are 3.5 GB from the division lead? My lord.
  15. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 01:02 PM) To me my passion for the White Sox is, was and always will be the third most important / prominent part of my life behind my wife and my son and his family. Mark Hmmm, hard to tell reading your posts. The Sox are also one of the more prominent parts of my life, always have been and likely always will be, but I take such a different approach to things than you. But as you said, everyone is different. Just don't think pointing out every single negative thing helps the picture, really, and certainly sucks out the enjoyment (at least would for me).
  16. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 11:08 AM) .500 tonight, under .500 tomorrow...this team has completely given up. Well you certainly have.
  17. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) Pretty damn good sure, but ace level? Unlikely. Jose Quintana has maintained a lower FIP across a longer stretch with the Sox and people have argued for a long time he's not an ace, so if he's not, Jame Shields sure as s*** wasnt. He may not have been an ace in the traditional sense - if you want to call the top 30 pitchers in baseball aces. But he was the best pitcher on KCs staff, and by that definition, was the ace of their staff. But he still was probably one of the best 30 SP in the game in those years.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 09:37 AM) They also traded a ton to get Juan Gonzalez. November 2, 1999: Traded by the Texas Rangers with Danny Patterson and Gregg Zaun to the Detroit Tigers for Alan Webb (minors), Frank Catalanotto, Francisco Cordero, Bill Haselman, Gabe Kapler and Justin Thompson. Frank Catalanotto - that's a name I hadn't thought of in awhile.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 09:23 AM) Umm...they traded two, Miller and Cameron Maybin. Drafted Verlander. Traded for Scherzer, that was a huge move. But, just as importantly, Ilitch became willing to spend money on guys like Victor Martinez, Cecil Fielder (turned into Ian Kinsler), Magglio Ordonez, Juan Gonzalez (turned down), Pudge Rodriguez, Carlos Guillen, Fister, overspent to draft Porcello, etc. Authorized more spending on Verlander/Cabrera (perhaps foolishly), Jordan Zimmermann, Upton, etc. Cecil Fielder, eh?
  20. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 7, 2016 -> 07:18 AM) Anybody that thinks James Shields was ever an ace is crazy. David Price was the ace of those Rays teams, Shields has always been a compliment. He was definitely KCs ace...
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 04:37 PM) I have no proof of this. But because of the team's performance I would say overpaid and selfish are ... Lawrie, Melky, Eaton, Abreu, Frazier and Rollins. I think the bullpen guys are just bad, not selfish. Now I have no proof here, except for the Drake incident and how the "leaders" have done nothing to help this ballclub during it's struggles in losing almost every series in the last 8 series. Pathetic. Prove me wrong. Ok, but literally none of those players except for Melky are overpaid, and in todays game, he gets paid just about what he'd get on the FA market, so he is hardly overpaid.
  22. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 04:34 PM) Question might be honest but its fully loaded. Do you agree 100% with your wife or girl friend ? Ever have heated arguments with them ? Your kids ? All relationships are filled with angst. Does that mean you hate them or love them less ? Are you a miserable person because you disagree with them ? I know it's sports and not an interpersonal relationship but it's a relationship none the less. Sure, but if I had nothing good to say about my girlfriend ever and she brought me zero joy, my guess is she would no longer be my girlfriend. Whats the point if she makes you miserable?
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 04:19 PM) I disagree with how 2 employees - Williams and Hahn - manage the White Sox. They are assuredly NOT the White Sox Fair enough. But you would support them if they sported this lineup? You think they'd be doing their jobs then? C: Josh Phegley 1B: Danny Hayes 2B: Micah Johnson SS: Carlos Sanchez 3B: Marcus Semien LF: Jason Coats CF: Trayce Thompson RF: Adam Eaton
