  1. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ May 16, 2016 -> 08:40 PM) He's probably attainable for sure but I doubt they would take a token Soxtalk offer of: Beck/Johnson, Sanchez, other random guy for him. I bet they would. Bully Burns is a mediocre baseball player.
  2. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 16, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) "In all probability, it's conceivable, that much like any of the other 29 teams, we are going to use the resources at our disposal to exhaust any plausible form of an upgrade in one way or another all things considered." Well done! I laughed.
  3. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ May 16, 2016 -> 11:36 AM) We'll know a lot more by the middle of next week or in about 10 days won't we? Mark Not really.
  4. Shuck started at 1B for Charlotte today.

    The Bench

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 12, 2016 -> 03:16 PM) Because there's nothing inherently terrible/bad/negative with wanting to get better? What team is completely satisfied with where they're at...? I hate that argument, that we should just be contented and that looking for ways to improve and make the team even more competitive is a bad thing? Or even worse, that we're not supporting Sands/Carrol/Sanchez/Erik Johnson/Saladino if we're talking about trading or replacing them? It's kind of like that old axiom about "supporting the troops" but not in general being for war. Just because you're thinking of ways to get better doesn't mean you're a "bad" fan or whatever. Just like those folks who don't want to see war after war bristle when they're called "unpatriotic." There are always two sides to every coin. I don't have a problem with getting better, I didn't say I am completed satisfied with where we're at or the roster as constructed. I made a post regarding a few roster moves earlier in this thread. What I said is - I don't understand why the Cubs need to be mentioned every other post.

Don't get why the Cubs have to come up every other post here. Who cares?

I'd go with DFA Sands, bring back Shuck. Option Carroll, bring up Ynoa until Petricka comes back. And I'd be looking hard for a super utility guy that can play the OF well and can play the IF if needed. I don't know how good a guy like Kelly Johnson is in the OF, but he'd be the general type of guy I think the Sox need. Doesn't have to be a sexy move. Then when we acquire our big LH bat later this summer, you either send Shuck back down or DFA Johnson (or the like).
  8. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ May 10, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) Total Kenny deal. Thank God he doesn't run trades. Yah, cause KW traded away so many future all stars.
  9. Yah, Lincecum is exciting in name only. I'd take a flyer if he were cheap, but someone will overpay. I wouldn't mind cycling through options until the Sox find one that sticks (including waiver claims). Obviously not as ideal as going out and getting a legit mid/back of rotation guy, but they still have time to do that. Acquiring one of those now is going to cost more than it will in a few weeks.
  10. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ May 6, 2016 -> 01:26 PM) so the 25 man roster is at 24. Will they announce someone before tonight's game? I know replacing Johnson isnt totally necessary yet, but an extra bullpen arm for 3-5 days??? You'd sure think so. May as well call up someone on the 40 man we've optioned already this year. Ynoa?

    Lawrie

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 6, 2016 -> 09:13 AM) I really, really, really hope the Sox lock up Lawrie long term. The guy is the prototypical dirtbag player that the Sox have lacked for years. He fits the personality of the team to a tee. I don't know if we need to lock him up, but he'd been a welcome addition. I love his fire, and it is definitely what this team has lacked the past few years. Love that he leads the team in walks - that OBP has always been one of his major weaknesses, and the concerns about his glove were certainly exaggerated. Dude can throw some leather.
  12. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 5, 2016 -> 10:57 PM) And the answer is Trayce Thompson, Avisail Garcia, Marcus Semien. What is name 3 players out-hitting the "elite" Todd Frazier, Alex. But please trade 4 more young players for another proven veteran, Kenny Hahn. Even though it is a proven counterproductive strategy, it gives fans temporary succor and allows them to "dream again" Just go away. You're such a broken record.
  13. QUOTE (daggins @ May 3, 2016 -> 03:30 PM) This might be like a lot of seasons where the 5th starter is a patchwork of what is available. Unless Johnson or Turner establishes themselves quickly, or if Miguel Gonzalez doesn't have a broken face, we could be riding the merry go round all year. Surprised this happened this soon, but he has looked finished all season. I like Danks, and I wish all the best for him. His baseball career is probably over. Color me shocked, but clearly, the Sox mean business. Johnny was one of my favorites from 09-13, but he just couldn't bounce back. Surprised to see them just outright DFA him before giving him a go in the pen, but it was the right move, money be damned.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 25, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) Are we positive that he's out of options? Scott Merkin said that he has one yesterday This.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 04:25 PM) Nope I think he's out of options. That's why he got DFA'd. He was released and signed to a minors deal by Sox though, not claimed. Not sure he gets an option back, doubt it, just wanted to confirm.
  16. Can Gonzalez be optioned back to Charlotte without being exposed to waivers?
  17. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Apr 21, 2016 -> 11:22 AM) With a poor offense (doesn't matter who is pitching) plus John Danks...well let's just say I'd be pleasantly shocked if the Sox won this one. Mark hahahahaha
  18. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) I dont blame you for thinking that way. That haul they got for Shelby Miller is what you might expect was offered for frickin' Sale. So Atlanta is doing everything right (well forget Markakis and other past sins) You see what the Cubs are doing and no one can fault you for thinking that way. Full farm reload still has not happened here, and when you do that, not only can you 'top things off' with FA signings nicely afterward, but the FAs actually WANT to come to you because of that reloading already being in place. So it is a two-pronged benefit to do what ATL is doing. Are we good enough right now to get to the playoffs? Yes. So your way is not the only way but it is certainly viable. Right now we have a lot of talent on 1 yr deals which aint great. You cant get by that way every year. Not really. Jackson, Navarro and Avila are all very replaceable players. Danks is a sunk cost and the team will be better when he is gone (that hurts to say, Johnny was my guy for so many years). Latos has been great to this point - but its not like signing him to a deal over 1 year would have been a good move. Outside of that, I think everyone is controlled for at least two years, and pretty much every one of the above guys is replaceable for similar value to what they're getting paid.
  19. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Apr 20, 2016 -> 07:48 AM) Our schedule has been very weird to start. Yah, it has. Been busy at work and with some stuff outside of work, haven't been able to catch nearly as many games as I'd like. Probably the least # of games I've watched (outside of the two I attended in MN) in any season I can remember. The schedule to this point has sucked.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 19, 2016 -> 12:32 PM) I really doubt it. Danks has had 2 rough starts. Chris Sale is an ace and he has had 2 rough starts in a row. Last year he had a 4 game stretch where he pitched 23 innings gave up 35 hits and 20 runs in 4 starts, and in 2 starts in 10 1/3 gave up 18 hits and 14 runs. Danks isn't as good as he is. He is expected to have some clunkers. This is horrible logic.
  21. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 15, 2016 -> 08:05 AM) I'll be pissed as s*** if we get swept by the Rays while starting Sale and Q and missing Archer. Take 2 out of 3. I don't see this team getting swept right now, especially against the hapless Rays.
  22. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Apr 14, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) Sands/Shuck and then Avi (maybe). And after Dunn, Laroche and 2 weeks of Frazier, if people think trading young players for yet another NL slugger w/ severe splits who rakes in his home hitters' park is the answer, I don't know what to say. You would give up on Frazier after 30 ABs, since sample sizes mean nothing to you.
  23. WOOHOO. The Twins are bad. So are the Rays. Lets get three more.
