Its always about Sheets being better against RHP than Burger, because he is, and most pitchers throw with their right arm. I not some big Sheets guy, but he hits righties pretty well (2nd best on the team last year), and Burger has alot more than 30 ABs against RHP in the majors. Sheets against RHP in career (537 PA): wRC+: 117 Burger against RHP in career (165 PA): wRC+: 98 In his career, Burger is a below average bat against RHP and 56% above average bat against LHP. He is a human LHP raking machine. But so is Eloy, and both are DHs...hence why Burger doesn't really have a role on this team when Eloy (and Moncada) are healthy. Would Burger post better numbers against RHP with more consistent playing time? Ya, probably. But he's not going to post 117 wRC+. And Sheets is awful against LHP, but he hardly faces them and shouldn't. Not sure how that impacts this situation at all. That all being said, having a Sheets/Burger DH platoon if/when Eloy is hurt is nice. Problem is, both those guys are out of options after 2023, so going to need to find a full time roster spot for them, or lose them. But we can worry about that in 11 months.

It’s very hard to find at bats for Burger if Eloy and the rest of the roster is healthy and Sheets is better than Burger against RHP, which is more of a team need than more lefty mashers. Tanner Banks sucks. Is he better than Diekman? Maybe. I certainly would make that move now, but there are 4 million reasons Diekman was on the OD roster. Pens are fickle AF, Diekman has a good arm and has been a useful enough pen piece that he’s hung around the big leagues for over 10 years. It’s reasonable to expect him to be more effective than a 30 YO career minor leaguer. That said, I am all aboard the DFA Diekman train at this point. Also, depth is important. Cutting guys like Diekman and Ruiz to make room on 26 man for guys already on the 40 man (like Banks) doesn’t make a ton of sense until you have to.

Thankfully Crochet and Liam should be back by mid May. Can’t get buried before then, tho. Sox need to right the ship, get the next two from Pitt and win the series in Minneapolis.
-
Very disappointing start to the season. Some positive signs, but the pitching is going to need to turn things around in a hurry.

Will never understand these types of takes. Sox should be adding all the milb depth they can find right now. There is quite literally zero downside to this move.

Maybe should have gone with Scholtens instead of Diekman.

April Fools Joke White Sox DFA Jake Diekman

Not sure how you keep Diekman on this roster past today. -
That’ll ease the Eloy pain. ????

Happy about this. Sign Knebel and Giles to milb deals too. Can’t hurt.
-
Might actually get there. Doesn’t have enough service time to reject assignment and keep his $950k.
-
Not sure Scholtens is the answer but gives them some length in the short term.
-
He is/was a free agent, so…

That’d be surprising this early but maybe Sox realizing their pen is going to get fried without a long man.

So jealous! Have heard nothing but great things.

4/6/23 Giants @ White Sox 1:10 Game Time

Sox won 93 games in 21 and would have made the playoffs in 2020 even without the expanded playoffs. So they didn’t really “luck into” anything. They did, however, get outclassed in the short playoffs series’. -

I do not agree with that first sentence whatsoever. But whatever, not important. -

Fathom is a fantastic poster; has been one of my faves over the years. Does feel a bit like he’s in the the rooting for failure group lately though. -

Yeah, lotta hot takes around here. It’s silly. But such is Soxtalk and the majority of the fanbase as a whole. -

Far too early to even be discussing this, the Sox are 3-4 7 games in lol. But Iif you are “rebuilding” keeping Cease and Robert, tho only two guys that would return absolutely elite talent, is dumb. Sorry to break it to ya tho, Sox aren’t rebuilding any time soon. They may trade some expiring assets if they’re way out of it come July, but that’s about it. -

I actually enjoy watching bench players pitch. It’s kinda fun. Wasting an arm on that game making them potentially unavailable tomorrow in a game that isn’t decided is dumb. Just wish position players actually tried. The lobbing is so lame. -

If you're going to bring in Colas now, should have PH hit him for Alberto with the bases juiced when this was still a game within reach. -

The Pirates are throwing Dick Mountain, Vince fuc*kin Velazquez and Johan Ovideo in the series. Me thinks the Sox are going to be just fine. -

Some Very nice pitching matchups for the Sox next four games -
How many times will the Sox be .500 this season?
ChiSox59 replied to CentralChamps21's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Probably a good number of times over the next month. As the schedule gets easier, hopefully Sox get well above .500.
