  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 09:01 AM) Boo! That would suck the air out of the balloon and piss off the marketing department in one fell swoop...might as well sign Franklin Gutierrez too. Already been signed, c'mon man, figure your sh*t out.
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 08:59 AM) That is the more likely scenario. Signing Upton or Cespedes is pretty farfetched in reality. Someone has to sign these guys...along with Gordon. The logical suitors are narrowing by the day. I think one will end up with Sox, in all honesty, and will be somewhat cheaper (less years) than was projected earlier in the offseason. AAV will still be there, but I could see a 4 year/ $100M deal working for one of these guys.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 17, 2015 -> 07:36 AM) That's just not going to happen, if for no other reason than Cabrera being forced to DH and wasting another $13 million or so on LaRoche's deal. This should be a priority, not something the Sox are trying to avoid. Melky needs to be the DH at least 80% of the time. LaRoche needs to get a start or two a week at DH when a bad RH is on the hill, late inning defensive replacement for Jose and match up based PH. That is how this team will have success. If LaRoche happens to blows up and starts hitting well, its a good problem to have. I've said it before, and I'll say it again...two OF makes the most sense unless you're able to get Gordon. If you go Cespedes or Upton, a Parra or Span signing makes a ton of sense to be the strong side of a platoon with Avi.
  4. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 04:53 PM) Hahn stated there is no room for a big signing. I didn't see that...where??
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:47 PM) Two guys aren't feasible. But it has to be one more. Parra in addition to anther OF probably isn't in the "impossible" category. Its not like he is going to get a huge payday. EDIT: Although that's why Gordon makes the most sense, IMO. He plays great D and he bats LH. He would make Parra overkiill. Hell platoon Avi/Shuck in RF. But if you go the Cespedes/Upton route, another LH OF pieces makes sense.
  6. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 03:43 PM) We added a potential middle of the lineup bat, but we still couldn't get on base to save our lives. Avi needs to go next, and hopefully we can nab an OF who could play defense and get on base (I know, easier said than done). Alex Gordon says hello. I don't get why he hasn't been talked about more around here, but likely because most assume he'll go back to the Royals.
  7. 1. Gordon 2. Upton 3. Cespedes
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 02:39 PM) Cmon SoxPride, you know better than this. We made our big free agent signing a year ago. Melky. Sox cannot afford to sign any of those three guys. I pray we sign Lexi right now and hope like heck Avi turns into mini Miggy like he was suppposed to. I bet they can.
  9. I really like the trade. I think it is a good move and I am not going to lose any sleep over what we gave up. However, I think this makes improving the OF defense tough, which I think needs to be a priority. I had more or less penciled in a (close to) everyday OF alignment of Eaton-Thompson-Avi / FA pick up. Without Thompson, it goes back to Melky-Eaton-Avi/FA. I think this team really needs two OF....one of Upton/Gordon/Cespedes, and a lesser guy who preferably bats LH if you go with Upton or Cespedes. Someone like Parra or Span who can platoon with Avi, which gets him out of the OF against RHP, and also moves Melky to DH most days which I think is necessary. vs. RHP Gordon/Upton/Cespedes (in order of my preference) Eaton Parra/Span DH: Melky vs. LHP Gordon/Upton/Cespedes Eaton Avi DH: Melky LaRoche becomes late inning defensive replacement and gets the occasional start against RHP. This is probably unlikely, but I think this is what makes the White Sox a real contender.

  11. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:26 PM) He's an all star. We have someone to root for in home run derby. Meanwhile, the team and org. got worse. The Sox had stabilized 3B. The weaknesses were OF defense and a mediocre bullpen. So what did they do? Traded a OF who plays impeccable D and hit nearly .900 OPS. Brilliant! They traded a pitcher who could have been an actual stopper, of which there is exactly one. They cry about lack of hitting, so they traded an IF who can hit!!!! Oh, and they crowded out yet another young IF. 2B wasn't an issue. We had great D there from a YOUNG player (which, I know, is a negative on the Sox). This org's disdain for young players is beyond belief. The irony of course is that at least 2 of those guys, if not all 3, will make the 92 win Dodgers 25 man. But they weren't good enough for the 25 man of Robbie and Cooper's 76 win Sox. Trayce Thompson has a .748 OPS in seven minor league seasons. You complain about defense, but then complain because they traded a 2B who cant play any. Use your brains.
  12. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:25 PM) I think that a lot of people share their initial reactions before allowing some time to think about it and let other posts influence how they feel. I learned about the trade about an hour after it happened, and as I read the initial posts my feeling was that "I hope we didn't just trade all 3 of those guys for just Frazier..." As a fan, I was excited to see if TT could stick in our outfield, and to see if Montas could help the back end of our bullpen. Micah Johnson I wasn't excited about. Losing those "exciting" things hurts, initially. And then, add the idea that worries me along with several other posters, that Frazier will struggle in the AL, and right away it seems like we paid too much. I was about ready to post as such. But I kept reading the thread and thoughts others have shared. The fact that we didn't have to trade Anderson or Fulmer. The significant detractors of the 3 prospects we traded. Frazier is a power hitter that this lineup desperately needs while also being above average defensively. Initially, I was kind of upset, but with most trades that happen, after the initial feelings a general contentedness settles in and I feel better. However, I absolutely agree that if you want to contend, you need to upgrade RF or LF, or both. Avi carries considerable risk as a starting OF for us. Our team is going to be much better off with Avi in AAA being a depth piece for us should one of our starting OFs get injured. Nice post. I agree.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:37 PM) Was already planning on that. At least this year when they're below .500 I won't be nearly as annoyed, I just won't care. And maybe we won't have to read the negative Nancy BS you spew on here everyday. Do us all a favor...
  14. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:30 PM) Greensox and Alexeihyeess would find a reason to complain if they found a million dollars on the ground. It wasn't a mint 2015-$1,000,000 bill, but instead of a bill from 1986. It's garbage.
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:25 AM) I still wish we could get a left handed bat. I presume Avi will get a platoon type role (which is fine). Maybe a cheaper guy like Parra makes sense.
  16. QUOTE (beautox @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:20 AM) f*** YOU KW , Trayce?!? really f*** LOL.
  17. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) This is selling high on Trayce Thompson. Good move. THIS x1000.
  18. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:18 AM) If Either is coming back as well, if it's really Montas-Micha-Trayce, I LOVE IT. Indeed, especially if we get some salary relief.
  19. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:17 AM) Micah and Trace to Dodgers ???? According to whom???
  20. QUOTE (ypres @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:16 AM) I don't like this. If Montas turns into Frazier, and you don't like it....well....
  21. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:09 AM) Ben Carsley ‏@BenCarsley 1m1 minute ago Mau and Montas for Craig and Ethier. Big win for the Dodgers. Who is Mau and Craig? And who is Ben Carsley?? I will wait to judge until we hear the real details.
  22. QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) I don't understand the motive or the feasibility of trading for a couple of 20 year old prospects. Can you elaborate on the rationale for trading Engel and Johnson for Dominic Smith and Harold Ramirez? That's what you don't understand about that post? Pretty much every trade proposal is way off base.
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) If the Sox sign Freese, I will not attend a game. He is not what this team needs. Especially spending 10 million a year on him through his 33-35 aged years when you know he'll miss at least 20-25 games each year. I won't go that far but Freese is a worst case scenario for me. I'd much prefer a Lawrie-Saladino-Sanchez infield that a Freese-Saladino/Sanchez-Lawrie infield. That is $10M in AAV that needs to be spent on a better player.
  24. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 10:49 AM) If this means the Sox are standing firm on not dealing Anderson/Fulmer/Rodon/Q then this is excellent news. There are better ways to upgrade the offense then dealing a potential cornerstone. There is no way Rodon or Q are being moved for someone that doesn't have 4 or more years of control, and is an impact bat. In reality, Rodon is probably untouchable. The fact that CIN even went there is comical. But I am glad to see Hahn sticking to his guns on Anderson and Fulmer (more reasonable asks, but still not guys I am moving for a 2 years of Frazier).
