  1. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 22, 2015 -> 08:09 AM) Agreed. Colorado needs pitching bady. I would try and swap Montas for MiLB 3B Ryan McMahon. According to MLB's rankings, they are pretty close with Montas ranked #60 and McMahon #56. Not like McMahon will be playing 3B with Arenado cemented in that position. I like it. I hope the Sox explore lots of minors for minors swaps this winter. McMahon-Montas would be a good start. Outside of moving Fulmer, the Sox need to cash in on some of their pitching prospects. We know we can develop pitchers, use it as an advantage and go get some bats.
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 20, 2015 -> 07:46 AM) Maybe not even Alexei. A team could claim him and then buy out his option and not be on the hook for too much money. Almost certainly Danks, LaRoche and Melky. Possibly Duke. Maybe Robertson, though he wouldn't be moved anyway. I don't know why Albers wouldn't get claimed. He's not owed much. I wouldn't be that surprised to see Melky claimed. Dude is far and away cheaper than any other FA options. His contract isn't that bad in today's game. But the Sox wouldn't and shouldn't let him go.
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) This is what I have been saying since we fell out of the race. Jason Heyward makes this defense and line up better. Sounds nice and all, but man is he going to be expensive.
  4. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) It looks like he has only appeared in one game and logged three innings at the ML level this season. That being said, he is not very good looking at the numbers he has put up the last couple of seasons. No reason to bring a guy like that in when we really dont have a good track record of fixing hitters. Just because the organization hasn't had much successful fixing hitters, it doesn't mean you stop trying when the cost is virtually nothing.
  5. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 12:28 PM) From what I can find, it looks like he wasn't added to the 40 man until September of 2013 when he was called up the Athletics. He would have then used an option in each of 2014 and 2015. He should have one option year left. He already spent more than 20 days in the minors this year so his option for this year was used and he should be able to be sent down. Not sure why they would DFA him. Clearly they needed a spot on the 40 man and they weren't concerned with losing him.
  6. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 19, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) If you are correct that he has options, then this is a pretty rare occurrence. Almost all DFA's are guys who don't have options. I believe this year was his last option year. So not sure how that works when changing teams, but he was optioned earlier this year without being exposed to waivers, so presumably he can be claimed and optioned to AAA again. He would have to be one 25-man next year, though.
  7. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 08:03 PM) I'm not moving Quintana. I'd do Montas, EJ and Micah. Aren't you the guy that was super gungho for a Q-Puig swap at the deadline?
  8. Always been a KW fan, mainly because I like to see my team try to win every year. But it just hasn't worked, now going on quite some time. Take the job, Kenny.

  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 02:05 PM) 17th in fWAR right behind Lester and Cole. 9th last year, tied with Sale. But it'd be Q+ apparently, because baseball writers can't bother to do basic research. If anything, it'd be something like EJ + prospects for Puig, which I doubt the Dodgers take. I am passionately against trading Q for Puig, but realize something in that vein may be necessary to acquire an elite bat. I just don't think Puig is an elite bat, and he is a total asshat.
  11. QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 18, 2015 -> 01:21 PM) From Dave Cameron's Fangraphs chat today: If Puig does e moved this winter what type of package would he get? And what are some likely landing spots? Dave Cameron: My guess is that the Dodgers will use him to land a different MLB player (or players) they like. I don’t see him getting moved for prospects, but I could see them trying to use him to go get another young cost-controlled SP. Maybe they offer him to the White Sox for Quintana and something? Cameron is a pretty well connected guy. This may just be throwing s*** at the wall to see if it sticks, but there seems to be a little smoke here in regards to a Puig for Quintana swap. Where he is wrong is the Quintanta + something. It would be Puig + something for Quintana. Q remains one of the most underrated players in the game.
  12. Eaton is the least of this team's concerns.
  13. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 02:29 PM) I think Saladino is going to make an excellent utility player and a solid late inning defensive replacement. No shame in that, nothing wrong with it. That's always a valuable piece on a team. But starting? Especially at 3rd base which is a power / home run / big RBI position...can't see it. Sanchez should be an adequate / solid second baseman. Anderson may be a pretty good shortstop...we'll have to see. As far as Johnson, until he shows he can actually stay healthy it's all a moot point with him. (Or a moo point, the point of view of a cow as Joey said on "Friends...") LOL. Mark 3B maybe used to be a big time power / home runs / big RBI position, but it really isn't anymore. Sure, it'd be great to have an elite 3B, but there are very few. There are about 5 really good ones (Donaldson, Machado, Arenado, Frazier, Seager), a few good ones that are getting old (Beltre and Longoria) and some solid guys and promising kids (Carpenter and Bryant). After that it is pretty meh. You can get away with a 3B without a ton of power, but you probably need to have it elsewhere.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 17, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) Just to put some numbers on things.... The average OPS amongst 3b in baseball in 2015 is .743. The average OPS amongst SS is .677. Tyler is currently at .634. He's currently on pace that over a full season he'd strike out 140-150 times and walk only 30 times, so there's room to grow into this league with time. But if we look at his numbers right now...if he's an average or better SS defensively his bat as we've seen it right now comes close to playing. But even as a solid defender...he has a long, long way to go to become a tolerable bat at 3b. I think he can play long-term at SS. I don't think on this roster we have the firepower to afford him at 3b. Depends who the SS is.
  15. I thought he was pretty much a butcher over there. Somewhat encouraging news, I suppose.
  16. He is pretty good. His sinker is nasty.
  17. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 03:48 PM) Regardless, the unbalanced schedule is a travesty. So is divisional play. I agree that unbalanced schedules are an absolute joke. But the Royals aren't part of the unbalanced schedules among division foes.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) Six more against the Royals? My god. Baseball's unbalanced schedule is a travesty. That's five more losses right there. You play every team in your division the same amount of times (19), as does every team in the division. So you continue to be clueless.
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) Yikes, Conor must be annoyed that we put out 3 lefties for this series... but with our rotation, you have to expect that. He's batting .185 with LAAA, so the bench is where he belongs.
  20. QUOTE (kapzk @ Aug 12, 2015 -> 12:52 PM) Toronto is going to be running away with that division not the wildcard, so we are chasing two teams. I am not sold on the Yankees playing so well late into the season as they have begun to struggle. True. The Yanks pitching is bad without Pineda, but that offense. I think the Yankees will win more than 87 games.
