QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 06:44 PM) Betts and Bogaerts would be the main guys in the package, but I'd also want Owens, Devers, and Margot. This...at a minimum. Heck, throw Swihart in there too. Chris is unreal and if he were on the Dodgers or Yankees, he'd have won a couple Cy Youngs. We happen to have him under contract at about 15% of his value.

I want everyone's one FA/Trade prediction

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 09:00 PM) Cespedes 6/$126M I don't think that gets you to the final table, and that's why the Sox will and should pass. I'll go Alexei Ramirez 1/$7M. I think they'll do more, obviously, but that's what I see as most likely. -
MLB free agent predictions: Who should sign Jeff Samardzija?
ChiSox59 replied to whitesoxjr27's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Jeff Samardzija will return to being a very good mid rotation starter, perhaps even #2 level if in the NL. It just didn't work out here - time to wish him best, take the pick, and move on. -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 10:44 AM) I totally get your reasoning here. You outline why I reneged on what I was offering initially. I literally threw that together in a waiting room with only 3G as service when I was bored. Then you got SouthSideSale and Chilihead freaking out about a mistake that I already acknowledged. My post created two pages of discussion though... It was a great post!

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 09:41 AM) That's why I advocate trading him. His defense is not good and we got what I believe is a career year offensively out of him. And he clowns it up too much. If I'm hero worshiping, Heywars in right Thompson in center Avi in left. I just don't see Heyward as an elite bat. Adam Eaton is a good baseball player locked up to a great deal. Those are not the type of players you trade, unless you get a lot in return.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 11:56 PM) I have no problem with anyone saying they're not buying Rich Hill at that price. I just think it's lazy when someone just says "he blows." Honestly, I didn't even realize his health issues were that serious so I'll take what I said down a notch. Regardless, I think he's a worthy gamble. This guy will be getting guys out next year. If not in the rotation, get him in the pen. Big upside as a starter or reliever. Sorry, I posted that message based off your original post (which was a great one, BTW). I hadn't yet seen your follow-up where you went a bit more in depth on Hill and why you like him. I would have given a less "lazy" response had I read that before responding. But my point still stands, and the reasoning behind that point has already been covered by others. Rich Hill has started 4 MLB games since 2009. FOUR GAMES! Yes, he looked good in September, but I am just not buying, especially at $16M over two years. If you can get him on the cheap, sure why not, give him a shot. But the Sox really don't need another LHP in the rotation. No one is going to take Danks' contract, so he is pretty much locked in at the 5 spot. But if the Sox are somehow able to dump him, I'd see Buehrle as a much more likely scenario than Hill, and hell, I'd bet he'd take less than $16M!

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 06:25 PM) ^^ I had to mess up somewhere. LOL, he's a great receiver and gets high grade on his makeup and interaction with teammates. Seems like what the Sox would want in a backup catcher. He's got a decent eye up there. Could potentially improve at the plate. Just exchange Danks for Hill. Rich Hill blows and throwing 2 years and $16M at him would but insane. I'd prefer Danks.

White Sox make qualifying offer to Jeff Samardzija.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) And in hindsight that turned out to be a pretty s***ty decision. I'm not expecting Hahn to rip Shark a new asshole in his comments but I'd like a little more than just COA boilerplate. At least the org is speaking with one voice at the moment and you don't have KW in the news one day saying something and then Hahn the next saying something else. Meh, the world is not a conspiracy theory, bro. He pretty much just said Shark was terrible with the Sox and that he is unconcerned about what he gave up in return. More forthcoming than I'd expect he'd be, honestly. -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 02:26 PM) Good to see this is what passes for journalism at the Sun Times now. The headline and Lede aren't supported by anything in the article. I see one attributed quote about his market -- from Hahn. That's one opinion by a guy that has a very vested outcome in seeing such a "robust" market form for Shark. I mean, FFS, at least get the pro-forma puff piece quote from an "un named scout" that "sees a fixable flaw" and a guy "ready to bounce back at a buy low price". Jeez. Thanks Hahn but I'm pretty sure not having Marcus and Bassit will affect the team going forward and that Jeff's awful season will impact the team in 2016. Hahn is already mastering KW style "cover your ass" quotes. What do you expect him to say? I'd translate that as follow: Yeah, ya' know, Jeff sucked balls with us. But really, what'd we give up? A SS who isn't a SS that can hit a bit, but will never be even an OK defender. A back of the rotation pitcher who isn't that young that will likely be a middle reliever at best? Plus a C that Coop hates and our pitchers hated throwing to. Oh and we threw in this guy down in AA who supposedly can hit minor league pitching pretty well, but has no position or power. Yeah, I traded a bunch of leftovers for Shark, and Shark s*** the bed. -
QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) His 700+ OPs despite playing injured most all season? His projections for 2016 are .279/.343/.435 and he costs $5 MM next season. He isn't going to be had for a song. Lucroy is a great player, but that is pretty much cleaning out our farm. I wouldn't do it. Maybe Adams, Danish, and Montas. Keep Trey. Keep Fulmer.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 11:33 AM) My boy!! Though it'd realistically have to be Sale for Arenado Not straight up. Sale has more value.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 10:58 PM) Phegley can hit; Semien can hit. Both are flawed but can hit. The issue though why is a 73 team trading young players for a 1 year rent. 1 in a series of ridiculous moves last winter. On a different subject, it's startling to me how any one could possibly believe that Starlin Castro has any trade value at all. He's a .8 WAR player and you are on the hook for 40 over 4. Phegley wasn't liked in Chicago. His time was over. I agree that Semien can hit, yet he is a flawed player that was never likely to be a regular on the Sox due to his defense. I'd take the trade back for him alone, but I don't think we're going to be wallowing in our sorrows over what he becomes.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) I beg to differ. With the lack of starting pitching depth, it would be nice to have a guy like Bassitt to give EJ some competition in ST. After the starting five its Beck and Drabek. Would be nice if the Sox had Bassitt to compete with EJ in ST. Not like EJ is a sure thing for success. With Ravelo only being 23 and showing that so far, he can hit for Average and a high OBP, how can you say he won't amount to anything? His future is literally unwritten. The only knock on the guy is that he has yet to hit for power which, given his age, could still happen. I admit he lacks power for a 1B but that doesn't mean it will never develop. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I will admit I am biased because I hated the idea of trading for Samardzija before it even happened and now in hind sight, I hate it infinitely more. To the bolded - so what? Sign a couple bounceback candidates for competition. It is always nice to have depth, but Bassitt is nothing special. I see Ravelo as a Casey Kotchman type (with likely not nearly as good of a glove) as a best case scenario. Not exactly a big loss, and it is probably more likely he never makes it. Semien was the jewel of the trade, but even he is a very flawed player. Again, it was a good trade. It just didn't work out.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 07:27 PM) Not to be a smart ass but seriously, look up the numbers yourself. In short, Phegley posted better numbers than Flowers. Bassitt posted better numbers than Samardzija. Ravelo is 23, healthy and going into his first full season at AAA and he has high AVE/OBP potential. Considering the Sox have a lack of hitting in the farm, I wouldn't mind a young player with that potential, even if that player doesn't deveop power. Semien, Meh, I can live without Semien but imo and I said it at the time of the trade, Bassitt and Ravelo were the players I didn't like parting with. Then there's the fact that all four of the players the Sox sent to Oakland are under control for years to come and the Sox are left with Ynoa and the memory of one s***ty ass 2015 season from Samardzija. The Sox got fleeced so bad, Oakland should be brought up on charges and the Sox FO sent for psychiatric evaluation for being so stupid. It was like Steven Hawking making a trade with Forrest Gump. The garbage we gave up is marginally more valuable than garbage we received. The Sox did not get fleeced. Samardzija just didn't show up this season. None of the players the Sox gave up are going to amount to anything, except perhaps Semien as a league average player.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 07:14 PM) No. Stockpile that. Deal some once the foundation is built. This org is in no position to trade young players except in exchange for someone else's young players. I'm okay with dealing Q or Sale for that matter, for the right price. He's a 4-5 War player, at a low salary with years of control. That's the price. I'd deal Eaton first, though. I couldn't disagree more with most everything in this post. But I suppose that is the case most of the time when I read your posts.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 05:15 PM) Yes Why? A relatively light hitting corner OF? I am all about moving Melky to DH, but not sure this guy is reason why.
-
QUOTE (bruni @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 01:32 PM) That's not enough for Q. Really? Baez and Soler are MLB ready, cheap and have a chance to be special offensive talents. Castro is a 10 year younger version of Alexi with all the + and - that go into that mix. And you add in 2 pitchers to the young mix you have coming up through the system. Seems fair to me for Q plus Viciedo Jr. or do you somehow see better in other systems that would be available? Can't win if you can't hit, play D or manage. Maybe we make them throw in Davy Martinez to manage too! The Sale and Quintana trade ideas with the Cubs need to stop.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 01:20 PM) If it's a MILB deal, fine, but I want nothing to do with him if he wants an MLB deal. DA was referencing a minor league deal. That's fairly obvious.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) Minimum Cole Hamels package, and his value is higher than Hamels' was at the time of his trade, so Q should get more. At a minimum, although with Harrison in that deal it isn't the easiest comp to use.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 01:13 PM) No thanks. He's been washed up since 2011. MILB contracts mean nothing. If he sucks, you release him. I don't think anyone is penciling him into the 2016 starting lineup.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 01:10 PM) For some reason I was thinking about Carlos Quentin yesterday so I looked up his BR page, saw how old he was and thought how sad it was that he was done. I saw him during his last season vs. the Cubs and he could barely stand. Now, he is said to be attempting a comeback, and most assuredly will have to sign a minor league contract. Supposedly he would market himself as a 1B/DH/OF. Sign me up. If he can't do it, so what? He won't be healthy the entire season, but when he is, he is exactly the type of hitter the Sox need. I'd love to see TCQ get another chance. Great guy, whose career was derailed by unfortunate injuries.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 12:58 PM) No way do you trade a Top 20 pitcher in MLB for prospects. You have to get 2 MLB ready players for him plus 1-2 prospects in 8-15 range Not only is he a top 20 pitcher in MLB, he is young, left-handed, under team control for 5 more seasons (2 of which are team options), at an AAV of $8.65M. It literally doesn't get more valuable than that. He's worth a ton, and I suspect he won't be traded unless some other team really, really, really wants him and is willing to give up a TON to get him.
-
QUOTE (aboz56 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 12:53 PM) Any chance the Sox bring him back on a one-year deal so he finishes his career where it all started? If Quintana is traded, I could see it.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 12:48 PM) Quintana should not be traded unless a team with a strong farm system gives the Sox 1 of their top 5 prospects along with a few in the 8-15 range. You're severely underrating Quintana's trade value.

Byung-ho Park bidding rights won by Twins, $12.85 m
ChiSox59 replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 11:46 AM) I think LDF is referring to the brief discussion the two of you had yesterday on if the Cubs were the winning bidders, what would they do about 1B with Rizzo already there. It's all moot now since its the Twins that won the bid. Just trying to clarify is all. Anyway. Twins lineup looks even more potent now with the power potential in that lineup. And their defense looks embarrassingly bad. Sano anywhere but DH is a good news for the Sox. Sano at 3B and/or LF for more than a handful of games would be comical. Assuming Park isn't much of a defender, so he'd probably find himself at DH most of the time with Mauer at 1B (if they get the deal done). But Joe will need his rest, so Park will definitely get some time in the field. The Twins really screwed the pooch with Mauer. He is plenty athletic enough to play other positions. THey should have stuck with him in the OF, or at least given him a chance at 3B.
