QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 08:12 PM) @Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: #Mets trying to land #Reds’ Bruce. Also exploring other options. Wheeler most likely would go to CIN and maybe one other piece. Would much rather have GoGo if I were the Mets.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:54 PM) I understand the solid rumors buried in threads thing, but how are catch-alls bad for forum discussion? IMO they're better, as there were many more quality posts in the buyer thread than there are now in the smaller threads. Yep.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:48 PM) You can blame me (although I'm not the only person anti-catch all), but as the owner, I have certain preferences and I hate solid rumors burred in threads. It is a pain in the ass for me to read (when I don't want to necessarily read through pages of discussion if I'm trying to get caught up on news / rumors) and it is also bad for forum discussion (and as an admin, I try to do what helps generate discussion). You're in charge, and don't get me wrong, I appeciate all that the admins to to keep this place running, but I think you accomplish the exact opposite of promoting discussion. But I understand your stance.

Must admit, Soxtalk's obsession with not allowing catch-alls is sorta.....bizarre.

QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:27 PM) So is Danks. Gyrko's goes thru 2019, Danks 2016. Gyrko's is worse.
-
QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) Danks and low prospect for Upton and Jed Gyorko Gyrko's contract is brutal.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) As flashy as acquiring Upton or Cespedes would be, it would very shortsighted in my opinion to give up prospects for rentals to bank on 2015. This has Kenny written all over it. It does, but let's see what happens before we say we're mortgaging the future. Maybe they can get a rental bat without giving up anything super significant. We'll see...

QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:00 PM) Jon Heyman @JonHeymanCBS 1m1 minute ago Have heard chisox are on upton and cespedes now. Things have really turned around for south siders https://twitter.com/JonHeymanCBS My lord Do not want Upton unless it's cheap, which I doubt it will be.

Anyone have any updates as to the severity of the injury? If they would have just called him up instead of Leury, this wouldn't have happened!

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:09 PM) This is from @devanfink retweeted by Chris Cotillo and is being lit up on Twitter for being a kid and not a real reporter so who knows. Especially these days after what happened to the poor met last night Chris Cotillo is a kid (maybe 20), but he is a legit baseball reporter. He's been doing it for a couple years now and breaks stuff regularly. Don't know Devan Fink.

I am guessing he has been traded to the Charlotte Knights. Guy only has like 50 ABs this season in the minors, and would hardly but an upgrade over anyone on the 25 man. I do think he has a great glove, though. I remember him a bit from his Dodger days.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:04 PM) Wow if that's our move for the bench I'll puke. No joke. Hah, I am sure it is just AAA depth.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) It is so he won't have a qualifying offer attached to him. Before the new CBA (when he signed with the A's), this was a much bigger deal. Plus, the Sox wouldn't have been able to give him a qualifying offer anyway (since they would have theoretically just traded for him), so how is this any different than just a guy who is in the last year of his contract? I don't think this would affect any negotiations with him in the offseason, as someone else suggested.
-
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) I don't see the benefit either. Does this mean that he wouldn't be able to sign an extension if he were traded here? It is so he won't have a qualifying offer attached to him. Before the new CBA (when he signed with the A's), this was a much bigger deal.

QUOTE (Sockin @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) White Sox Remain Confused on Whether to Buy or Sell http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...-a-bit-confused Nothing new here. Most posters on this site could have composed than piece of "journalism".

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:01 PM) Would've missed him anyway. Missing Tanaka, too. We get Sabathia, Eovaldi, Nova. Not if his start was just pushed back from today to this weekend, which is what I read about an hour ago. Now he's DL bound.
-
QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) The Yankees starting staff isn't very good, and now Pineda is headed to the DL. After seeing the big deals for Price, Hamels and Cueto, are they going to make a splash themselves? Hypothetical: Suppose they get desperate/ultra-aggressive and all of a sudden offer Aaron Judge in a package for Samardzija. Even with the Sox recent hot streak, would you take it? That'd be tough to say no to, but I doubt they'd offer Judge. Nice we'll miss Pineda this weekend though.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) Todd Frazier isn't in the Reds lineup tonight, so I assume he'll be playing for the WSox tomorrow. He is a guy I'd be willing to trade Anderson for. Controlled through 2017. I bet they'd want Q tho.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:52 PM) A Brett Lawrie and Josh Reddick deal makes sense for the Sox. Both could be long term fixtures to this team as Reddick will turn 29 next year and Lawrie will turn 26 next year. Reddick controlled for one more year after this, and Lawrie 2 years after this. Would a Avi, Davidson, Micah Johnson, and Montas for Reddick and Lawrie deal make sense? Ehhh...probably not enough.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:30 PM) Like I said before, the Dodgers hired two of the smartest front office minds and gave them all the money in the world, instead of the pennies they had in Tampa and Oakland. Be afraid National League. Yep. Their payroll expenditures this year have to be close to $400M now for this year.
-
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:23 PM) Lawrie may be worse than Conor was playing 3rd Uhhh....Lawrie is a very good defender.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:14 PM) Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 35s35 seconds ago To Dodgers: Wood, Latos, Morse, Avilan, Johnson, Peraza, Arroyo To Braves: Olivera, Paco, Bird, pick To Marlins: Brigham, Guzman, Araujo Holy balls that's a lot of players The trade makes more sense from ATL's side now that we know the Dodgers are picking up Arroyo's tab. So basically, ATL got Touki in this deal as well. It is pretty crazy MLB lets the Dodgers throw their dick around like this.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:43 AM) Well that couldn't be any worse for us. Crazy to think that the Jays are only 1/2 game in front of the Sox right now, and they just emptied their system for Tulo and Price. Albeit, Tulo will be there beyond 2015, but still pretty wild, and quite a gamble considering they likely won't catch the Yanks either way and will be relying on a 1 game playoff, at best.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:42 AM) This merely puts the Blue Jays in a better position to compete with the White Sox. That is what I like to hear!
