  1. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 02:48 PM) I really think the majority of additions to the roster next season come from the trade market. I expect Alexei will be made available for the right return in the winter meetings and that Hahn will make a run at Tomas and probably at Pedro Alvarez as an alternative to re-signing Dunn. I think Alexei could go for a pretty good return as the Red Sox and Yankees are both likely to be in the bidding along with the Dodgers if they feel that Hanley either won't sign or has a future at 3B. Tomas' numbers in Cuba are pretty pedestrian. I wouldn't be thrilled with that unless it is on the cheap, and other reinforcements are also brought in.
  2. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 02:36 PM) No one took a look at my line up. Back on page 1. I like it, though it is obviously far-fetched. Here it is: Trade Viciedo, Beck, Hawkins and Sanchez for Jay Bruce and Sean Marshall. Why would the Reds make that trade? Markakis on a FA contract something like 4 years, $48M seems more likely. Keep Viciedo in DH/occasional OF platoon Sign relievers Andrew Miller and Luke Gregorson. That's going to cost $35-40M. 3 years at $6M per for Miller; 4 years at $5M per for Gregorson Trade Danks to anyone that will take on most of his contract. Don't see that happening. Sign Justin Masterson to a one year prove it again contract. Would love this, although I hope the SOX at least dabble with Shields. Sign Michael Cuddyer to a 2 year contract. DH him and let him play OF for when someone needs a rest. Like the idea, but Cuddyer's days in the OF are over. Sign Emilio Bonifacio to play a utility role. Love it. CF Eaton SS Ramirez 1B Abreu RF Bruce DH Cuddyer LF Garcia 3B Gillaspie/Davidson 2B Johnson/Semien C Flowers Bench Nieto Bonifacio Danks/Sierra Davidson (splits time with Gillaspie) Rotation Sale Quintana Masterson Rodon Noesi Bullpen Petricka Guerra Webb Marshall Gregorson Miller Carroll/Johnson/Rienzo (long relief)
  3. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 12:55 PM) I've said this before and I'll say it again- who specifically do you all want when you ask for a lefty bat to replace Dunn? There just aren't many LH power hitters on the market. Nick Markakis would be a great fit on this ballclub. He's not exactly a power bat, but still a great fit.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2014 -> 12:50 PM) It is coming up on September 1st quickly. Anyone want to venture to guess who will be on the roster from the minors on Sept 1. Keep in the back of your mind that anyone who isn't on the 40 man roster, would need someone released or DFA's to make room for them, and that is with one such moving coming soon for Avi Garcia. Erik Johnson for a few starts (assuming SOX don't go on some hot streak to end August) Rienzo for BP Surkamp to have 1 LHP Josh Phegley Marcus Semien Carlos Sanchez Andy Wilkins
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 13, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) How many options does Danks have left? He's like the yo yo of this team. Options are used one per year. Danks was optioned once already this year, therefore he can be sent to Charlotte and called back up to Chicago 57 times in between and another option is not burned.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 12, 2014 -> 08:23 AM) No, if the Sox said Sale was available and they wanted Stanton, the Marlins would pull the trigger so fast your head would spin. This. The sox have probably the most valuable asset in all of baseball besides Mike trout.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 10:27 AM) You can bet they have. The difference is that our front office doesn't leak this stuff, and the local media isn't determined enough to find it out. Odds are that by now the entire team, or close to it, has been through waivers. I am well aware of how the systems works. My point is, if all the guys have already been put out there, that means either all of them cleared, or were claimed and pulled back, considering it has already been over a week since the deadline. I was hoping at least Dunn would be a goner by now, but he probably cleared.
  8. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 01:40 PM) Anybody seeing any chatter at all about Sox players being on and/or clearing waivers? Yea, it is really hard to believe the SOX haven't put several of their players on waivers. I would have imagined the Dunn, Danks, Beckham, De Aza would have hit the waiver wire within days of August 1. Why the wait?
  9. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 2, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) I have always felt that for the most part righty-lefty matchups are overhyped. You really see the benefit with a lefty pitcher and a lefty hitter and not so much right-right IMO Your clearly haven't looked at Gordon's 2014 splits.
  10. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 08:42 PM) Alex Rios left Wednesday's game after being hit by a pitch in the left quadriceps muscle. Rios was hit in the third inning, and he was replaced by Dan Robertson in right field to start the fifth inning. Rios was hitless in one at-bat before exiting. The outfielder's name has been prevalent in trade rumors in recent days, so it may have been his last game as a member of the Rangers. Source: MLBlogs.com Exact same thing happened last year on the day before the deadline when he was on the sox. Probably just acts hurt.
  11. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 03:23 PM) I'd hope Alexei is being dangled in the Yankees Danks talks. He would slot just fine in their gaping 2B hole. Do you enjoy watching the White Sox lose? Trading Alexei makes sense in one scenario - we get a ML ready SS, plus a major league ready SP with mid-rotation upside and a B level prospect or two. You only trade Alexei if you cannot say no. Without Alexei, next year looks much more grim - with him, and a few off-season acquisitions, this team is a contender. Isn't that what we're all here for?
  12. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 12:48 PM) Didn't look at Wendelken for my top 30 because I had it in my head he was having a really bad year. Just looking at him again now, the ERA is high but the K:BB ratio is really quite good. Issue with him starting is the lack of a consistent third pitch and stamina, but he's got time. Agreed. Rarely post, but read daily. Thanks to all who contribute!
  13. I'd love to be included.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 03:14 PM) If Beckham is the Sox biggest bust, they apparently are a lot better at drafting then anyone realizes. He's 3rd or 4th overall in career WAR for 2008 1st round picks. Good point. Only Posey, Lawrie, Jason Castro have higher career WARs than Gordon. .
  15. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 14, 2014 -> 09:24 AM) A Micah scouting video uploaded not too long ago by BA. Of course, the dude made a blasphemous mistake by call him a Cubs prospect. Honestly not the best video of Micah there. Looked horribly fooled on most swings.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) He is under contract for 2015 and has an option for 2016. The 2016 option is pricey (>$10 million) but if he continues performing like this it would likely be picked up. It's not terribly expensive with all things considered.
  17. QUOTE (jdupps @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 03:59 PM) So against a RH pitcher a slumping Ramirez is batting second and a red hot Gillaspie is batting sixth...makes sense to me. Back to back lefties doesn't make a ton of sense
  18. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 11, 2014 -> 01:17 PM) Oh, let it be so. One of the things that must come out of this rebuild season, imo, is a reasonable plan for the back end of the rotation next year. We've batted zero thru EJohnson, Paulino, Rienzo, and Carroll is doubtful, despite the recent performance. Injuries to Lopez and Bassitt, and Beck's treading water this season, seems to have stalled any help from below. It will substantially boost my optimism in 2015 if Noesi finishes the season strongly, and it would make the FO task far more feasible. We need more than Conor to be among the found/developed pieces to result from this rebuild season. It would be wonderful if we look back a year from now and think of Hector as our new Quintana. Won't be holding my breath, but it's possible. What in the world happened to Erik Johnson? Good lord those AAA numbers are an eye sore!! Has he gone from top 50 prospect to lost cause already?
  19. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 10, 2014 -> 09:03 AM) I demand Josh Willingham Why? Willingham is pretty bad at baseball. If they got him as a platoon DH on a cheap deal, ok, but he is atrocious in the field.
  20. How long til AJ is in a ChiSox uni? 5 days? Gotta imagine both parties would be interested.
  21. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 05:24 PM) This is a joke Bet Chris is chosen as a replacement to a pitcher who threw today or yesterday.
  22. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 04:58 PM) How would Abreu not make it? I think he's all but a guarantee. No kidding.
  23. The schedule in May is much easier than the schedule in April. 14-15 start to the season is not horrible considering that. Here is to a .600 or better record in May! Go Sox!
