His stuff was down. Gio had a bad year. Defense definitely played in his inflated ERA however, specifically our 1B playing OF. -

Well the stats say it was largely due to the teams defense, to be honest. -
Not much. He rake against LHP, but most of the roster does. He’s a better IF defender than Romy and apparently an awesome clubhouse/culture guy. Grifol raves about him recently. I think Romy makes the roster over Alberto, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see it go the other way.
-
Im not really dying on it. I’ve said multiple times it could go either way and I still believe that.

Rangers @ White Sox, March 4 (Free MLB Webcast)

Positions to succeed…man will that be refreshing. -
This. I am going Colas in AAA with a bench of Zavala, Leury, Marisnick and Romy. Only caveat to this is perhaps Alberto. He may earn a spot, which would be Romy’s. I’d still give Romy the clear leg up, tho that gap has to have closed some in the start of camp.
-
Oh, I imagined it.
-
He was lowballed because he ran his course on this roster. Having Jose would have been great, but it was no longer realistic based on the roster construction. The FO is to blame for that, but letting the much older and declining player leave was the right call. The Sox beating the Astros offer would have been an atrocious use of resources.

3/2/2023 3/1 Sox vs Colorado, 2:10PM CT, no tv

Why are people suddenly Burger stans? He can mash LHP, something most of this roster can already do. But he cannot play defense. He is borderline unplayable at 3B defensively, and has never really played 1B in his life and has no other defensive utility. He will continue to struggle against RHP, which, coupled with awful defense, gives him no role on this roster unless one Moncada, AV or Eloy are hurt. I like Jake and all, and think he's great depth to store in AAA. But 500 at bats? Wtf. That makes no sense. -

But Parkman soured on him, so stats don’t matter. -

Mike Clevinger under investigation for domestic violence
ChiSox59 replied to RibbieRubarb's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I know he’s been pitching sim games, but haven’t heard about game action. Cease, Gio and Kopech haven’t pitched yet either, tho. -
Was kinda my guess. Glad to see Pedro say that. And the quote from the poster was, unsurprisingly, delivered with an enormous lack of context.
-
Who was this in reference to?
-
Definitely agree here. Leury sucks, but he's useful enough as the 26th man. I am by no means married to keeping him and would love to improve on him, but there is really no reason to cut Leury until someone proves more worthy of the roster spot, or he falls flat on his face again to start the season.

2/27 GT Mariners vs White Sox, 2:05PM CT, NBCSC, ESPN1000
ChiSox59 replied to Tnetennba's topic in 2023 Season in Review
Neither Leury or Romy are true OF, so I don't agree. That is basically having 2 real OF on the entire MLB roster (Robert / Benintendi). Who is going to play RF late in the game when you have to play Sheets or Eloy out there? Leury has proven to be an awful RF, and we have no idea how Romy will look out there. If Colas isn't going to be on the roster to start, you need a real 4th OF. Could be Marisnick. Could be Billy. Could be someone else who has a great spring - think eventually that spot will be Cespedes if he earns it, but that might not occur until 24. Also, Burger's role would be so limited. I guess you could DH him again LHP and stick Eloy in RF, but is that really worth a roster spot? Our bench would be awfully defensively. -

In that scenario, Leury. I don't see Sox breaking camp with Burger, or with Eloy/Leury as the 4th OF. My guess is a bench of Zavala, Leury, Romy and Marisnick. Call Sheets the RF and Eloy the DH, though it appears that may be somewhat of a time share with Romy also getting some RF reps. I think they will (and should) send Colas to AAA for a month or so. -
Looks like interesting enough depth add. Hope they do like 3-4 more of these.

The Sox Will Win the AL Central in 2023
ChiSox59 replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is silly. While we’d all prefer to see a deep run, I would absolutely love to see the Sox in the playoffs, and perhaps even win a series in the scenario you laid out. We’ve seen playoff baseball 3x since the World Series in 05. Im not gonna sit here and turn my nose up to a playoff appearance 8 months in advance. -

ChiSox59 replied to RibbieRubarb's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They’ve pretty much already said it’ll be Kopech. -
Hah, they did. A lefty with 5.5 years of control sorta fits the “potentially useful” role. Still strange to lose him if you know Liam is going to 60 day IL and it’s available To them.
-
Honestly missed that first glance. Terrible. But Eloy isn’t going to play a ton of OF.
-
Strange to chose to DFA a potentially useful player rather than placing Liam on 60 day if that was a forgone conclusion.
-
Why isn’t he on the 60 day IL then?
